Francona was traded twice for Larry Doby. Wow

12/03/1957 - he, Ray Moore and Billy Goodman were dealt to the Chicago White Sox for Larry Doby, Jack Harshman and Jim Marshall.

On March 21, 1959, he was traded to the Cleveland Indians for Larry Doby, the second trade involving the two.

Rajai Davis is in Tribe camp. Said Chisenhall: “We’re getting the band back together.” Indians haven’t announced anything, but hearing it’s a Minor League deal with non-roster invite.

Really happy to see Davis back with the Tribe.  He adds that speed on the basepath that I felt we were missing last season.  Not sure why, but I felt the Tribe left a lot of extra base opportunities out there last season.  We were sitting in 4th place with 134 SB in 2016, but 15th place in 2017 with 88.  We just stopped running the base paths and waited for someone to hit the ball.  Hopefully that changes abit this year if Davis makes the main roster.

Favorite part of that tweet was a reply by Mike Napoli who was showing some interest to come back to CLE.  With Santana out of town, it may make sense if it's a lower tier signing.  He's got the experience and can help fill a hole for now.

Depth Chart is starting to fill out now:

C: Perez, Gomes, Mejia
1B: Alonso, Edwin, Napoli?
2B: Kipnis, Ramirez, Gonzalez
SS: Lindor, Gonzalez?
3B: Ramirez, Diaz, Urshela?
LF: Brantley?, Chisenhall? Upton Jr?
CF: Zimmer, Almonte, Davis?
RF: Chisenhall, Guyer?, Naquin?
DH: Edwin, Brantley, Diaz? Napoli?

SP: Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Salazaar?, Clevinger?, Tomlin?, Merritt?
BP: Allen, Miller, Otero, McAllister, Goody, Olson, Belisle? Torres? Plutko, Taylor, Mroimando, Merryweather

I like Davis as he adds speed back to the lineup.  Add him with Zimmer, Jose, and Frankie and you have some speed in the lineup.

Napoli, I thought, brought some veteran leadership to the team and just fit.  Having him as a DH and platoon 1B isn't a bad thing - it's his leadership in the clubhouse that will be most valuable, IMO.

I saw Michael Martinez on the non-invite roster list.  I'm hoping he stays in the minors.  We already have Gonzo and Gio to take up that utility INF role(s).  Maybe the Tribe will trade Martinez before the season starts.

Naps doesn't have a roster spot the way I map it out.  I think he's insurance on a Spring Training injury to Edwin and Alonso (maybe he can slide in if Brantley has a setback).  He also could accept a minor league assignment come April....it's not like he's a huge FA draw to teams.

I've also heard we'll try to move Urshella or Gonzalez as we can't keep them both and they can't be sent down.  I doubt they'll bring anything tangible in though.  I have no preference between the two, just not Martinez who needs alot to happen to break with the club.

I like Salazar but I wish we would have traded him when he had more value.  Maybe he still has some or whenever he returns he can gain some momentum back.

Is Merritt out of options?

Is Merritt out of options?
Yes.  This is a make/break year for both him and Naquin.

With Guyer still hurting, and Brantley not at 100%, I think Nap could be a short-term resource.  I also wouldn't mind seeing them try to trade Naquin as well.  If he has a good spring, there's a chance.

Wasn't sure about Kip going back to 2B this season as I thought Jose did a good job.  But Kip is using the injury and his possible off-season trade rumors to light a fire under his ### this spring!

Yes it's early, and yes this pace is unlikely to be kept.  I'm hoping he can maintain his 2016 pace, if not exceed it.  That may put him in the conversation for Comeback Player of the Year.

Kips work is completely unsustainable, but it's fun to dream.

Just happy to have baseball back.  Today was fun watching two games at once!

If he’s healthy he should be fine. Of course the stats are not sustainable. Wonder what the breakdown is on some things about his spring hits— major league pitchers, types of pitches he’s hitting/seeing, etc.

Forget Kipnis. He's down to .471

Urshela is batting .552
Should've traded Kip when his value was high!

Half kidding. I enjoyed the infield defense more with Jose at 2nd and Gio at 3rd. It was a stronger unit defensively.  However, offensively it made the team weaker. If Gio can find and sustain his bat, he's a lock for the UTIL INF spot, and likely give us a chance to shop Kip at the deadline.

I like Kip. Good all around player and a veteran presence in the locker room. But with the surplus of talent behind the gets it's getting close to #### or get off the pot.

Upton Jr. and Hannigan released today.  I didn't see either making it through camp.  Too much young talent in both OF and C positions to keep either one.

Really want Davis to make the roster.  Abe is next
Yep...really like what Davis adds to the team in terms of speed and leadership.  I think Abe has already been sent to AAA, along with Meija.  I'll have to look for that transaction.

Mejia, Almonte optioned by Tribe

The Indians made a second round of cuts Monday, optioning catcher Francisco Mejia -- the club's No. 1 prospect as ranked by MLB Pipeline -- to Triple-A Columbus, alongside outfielder Abraham Almonte and pitchers Julian Merryweather, Shawn Morimando and Adam Plutko.

That has been the plan for Mejia. They want him to play nearly every day and he won't be able to do that in Spring Training or in The Majors right now.
I've heard they are getting him reps in the OF now, as they try to find ways to bring him up. I think he's a better catcher than Yan, but I could be wrong. I think Robo handles the pitchers extremely well. Yan not so much.  The pitchers just look and perform differently when Yan is catching. I'd rather have Meija up there learning and trade off Yan for something.

Read that Tito and team are meeting today to decide the fate of Nap and Davis. We should know more tomorrow.  I think both have opt out clauses and one year deals.

From T.J. Zuppe:

Optioned - Ben Taylor, Greg Allen

Re-assigned - Alexi Ogando

To the DL - Gio Urshela

Erik Gonzalez likely on Opening Day roster.

Decision coming Saturday for Torres/Belisle

No decision yet - Naquin and Refnsynder

ETA - Decision on Ryan Merritt will be made tomorrow as they're still working on size of bench and pen.

Napoli will be released today and re-signed to a minor league deal. Decision apparently TBD.

I like the idea of Nap being the leader of the AAA Clubhouse.  He already knows some of those guys and can help get them ready for the big league roster.

Doesn't sound like Guyer will be healthy in time for opening day, or it's going to be really close.

Per Drew Rosenhaus, Brantley will start the season on the DL. It's supposedly not anything to be concerned with; they want him to be as close to 100% as possible.

  1. Albert Belle arrested
BREAKING: Albert Belle arrested in Scottsdale during a spring training game.

2 counts of indecent exposure
1 count of DUI (using liquor, drugs or vapors)
1 count of Extreme DUI (BAC of .08 or more) pic.twitter.com/3zMgRczQi3

From what I understand, "extreme DUI" is a BAC of .15 to .19. I'd never heard of that before.

From what I heard on TV Joey Belle was staggering around and could hardly stand up..then was peeing everywhere.Probably more than just booze.    Did you see his mug shot?  Looks like he is 75 years old..I was shocked.
I saw a photoshoot of his arm flexing from back in the day with his mugshot face superimposed on it.

More details...umm...perhaps wrong choice of words.

TMZ Sports got a photo from witness Ron Swindells, who said he was leaving the game and stopped in traffic when he saw the five-time All-Star’s bare ###. According to Swindells, a woman nearby was angered by the sight of Belle’s butt and said something about her kids being present, to which Belle replied, without turning around, “Don’t look, then. If you gotta go, you gotta go.”

@Bobcat10 et al...got my hotel reserved awhile back for my trip. Radisson near the stadium.

Just looking at the promotions for the tickets I bought. May 26 they’re giving out Terry Francona jerseys. (Meh but I’ll take one I guess). Then May 27 something about kids running the bases. Any you guys ever had your kids participate in this? Is there an age limit? If your wearing opposing team stuff would they care? My son is 12 almost 13 and I think he would like that.

I also want to hit the rock and roll hall of fame Saturday during the day and the nfl Hall on the way home Monday. Thinking about maybe the William McKinley library too when I drive up there that Friday. Heck I might go to the Friday game too if I can get a ticket off a scalper lol.

Hopefully the games will be good too.

There is no age limit on kids run the bases that I'm aware of.  In fact, you probably could too (I have when my son was younger).  Obviously it's not 1 at a time or it would take forever, it's kind of single file.  So while it's cool, your son will need to dodge the little dudes the entire time, but that's not a big deal.  People start lining up towards the end of the game in the right field concourse back where the ramps are.  When the line begins to move after the game you end up going below the stadium before hitting the field.  Never know what/who you might see, so keep the autograph stuff handy if that's his thing.  Before the game, both outfield lines are pretty accessible for autographs.  Nobody will/should care what you guys are wearing.

Awesome. I’ll go down on the field at the very least with him. That’ll be fun just be on a mlb field. Does the rest of the stuff I'm thinking about sound like a good plan? Or trying to do too much?

If you're try to get a Francona jersey, you'll have to get there WAY early as the lines for those start way before gates open.

Also, as long as your son is not rocking a Pirates jersey he should be fine. :P
