*** Official - Dan Lambskins Top 30 Songs: Girls Names *** (1 Viewer)

19. Beth - Kiss

i only heard this song for the first time a few years ago when it was featured in some car commercial...at least I think it was for a car, might have been pizza or mobile phones

its a catchy tune though, but kinda sad because it’s clear the dude would rather hang out with the band than go home to Beth, or maybe it’s a metaphor and he’s actually busy with another chick.  I’ve never really dived into that deeply

also curious how KISS fans feel about it?  I’m assuming they hate it though

The net gain was a good thing for male KISS fans, as this record brought a bazillion female fans into the KISS Army.

18. Amanda - Boston

I'm gonna take you by surprise
And make you realize,
Amanda
I'm gonna tell you right away,
I can't wait another day,
Amanda
I'm gonna say it like a man
And make you understand
Amanda

Great Toto choice, they don't have many good songs but the 3 big hits they do have are favorites  of mine.

17. Judith - A Perfect Circle

Tool is probably my favorite band (right up there with Floyd, I guess gun to my head I go Floyd) but I just could never get into A Perfect Circle all that much

anyway not too many Rock entries on the list so figured I had to slide one in there

28. Lucille - Kenny Rogers

“you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille...”

i think the first tome I ever heard this song was at a Howl at the Moon piano bar in Orlando, but the chorus was usually followed by some misogynistic expletives

anyway I’m not a big fan of modern country, but I enjoy classic country, and yes there will be more of it

also props to Kenny for that sweet beard in the video.
I guess when I was little i used to get up on the footstool and get my Kenny Rogers on. Only thing was when I sang it it was "you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, with 400 children and the crap in the fields."

A lot of KISS fans point to it as being one of their greatest songs, because they don't really have a lot of other options.

this song sucks ###.  From everything I have read, they had to piece together tens of takes because Peter Criss couldn't remember enough of the words at one time and couldn't carry a tune ...much less keep time.

Every song on their first album is better than this song.

Amen, Bink!

While others are right that this song opened up the Army to some female membership & got some radio play - most all fans I knew held your (and mine) opinion.

Best female named KISS song, imo, is:

She

Unfortunately, I don't believe pronouns qualify - by Dan's criteria - and I gots no problem with that. Just wanna share me thoughts.

✌️

15. Rhiannon - Fleetwod Mac

in hindsight I think I may have rated this too high

also I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone named Rhiannon, but my buddy met a fat girl in a loud bar and her name was Brianna but I thought she said it was Rhiannon so I went and played that on the juke box
I know a Rhiannon so I can vouch it's real...she's probably named after the song.

Rhiannon is a major figure in the Mabinogi, the medieval Welsh story collection. She appears mainly in the First Branch of the Mabinogi, and again in the Third Branch. She is a strong minded Otherworld woman, who chooses Pwyll, prince of Dyfed (west Wales), as her consort, in preference to another man to whom she has already been betrothed. She is intelligent, politically strategic, beautiful, and famed for her wealth and generosity. With Pwyll she has a son, the hero Pryderi, who later inherits the lordship of Dyfed. She endures tragedy when her newborn child is abducted, and she is accused of infanticide. As a widow she marries Manawydan of the British royal family, and has further adventures involving enchantments.

Like some other figures of British/Welsh literary tradition, Rhiannon may be a reflex of an earlier Celtic deity. Her name appears to derive from the reconstructed Brittonic form *Rīgantonā, a derivative of *rīgan- "queen". In the First Branch of the Mabinogi, Rhiannon is strongly associated with horses, and so is her son Pryderi. She is often considered to be related to the Gaulish horse goddess Epona.[1][2] She and her son are often depicted as mare and foal. Like Epona, she sometimes sits on her horse in a calm, stoic way.[3] While this connection with Epona is generally accepted among scholars of the Mabinogi and Celtic studies, Ronald Hutton, a general historian, is skeptical.[4]

14. Polly - Nirvana

it definitely fits name wise, although I’m not sure if he’s singing about a girl or an actual bird

Ok so I read the background behind the song.  That’s some Posty level dark ####

12. Rio - Duran Duran

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

I don't think Rio is a person from the song despite the ambiguous lyrics.

No matter though - what makes this song is John Taylor's killer bass.

Getting into the Top 10

10. Buddy Holly - Peggy Sue

back when I was a kid and we’d go on road trips I think we had about 5 different oldies cassettes to chose from.  This song was on there

i think they made a movie about it too (the song, not my family road trips)

9. Candy - Morphine

love this band and love this song

Candy asked me if she died if I could go on
Of course I said I couldn't and of course we knew that's wrong
But Candy I said Candy no you can't do that to me
Because you love me way to much for you to ever leave

6. Jolene - Dolly Parton

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene

It’s Dollys song but the Jack White version is pretty badass too

also same buddy that was chatting up Rhiannon in the bar had a girlfriend named (I think it was Jodi but I can’t remember now) that I called Jolene instead...just shtick I used to do, call people a name very close to their own.  Oh and “Jolene” came to one of my Halloween parties as slutty Marie Antoinette
