***OFFICIAL*** Deadliest Catch Thread! (1 Viewer)

Yeah, big ship and big crew.

For whatever reason, my DVR was locked up in the middle of it...so I missed the mangled hand (probably glad I did)...it picked back up on Elliot.

Speaking of which...he may be even less likable than keith.

So he was with this chick that he loved....but had a piece on the side.

Lies to first chick...she drops him.

Goes after the piece on the side and all this that he loves here and is going to propose to her...threatens the guy she is screwing with a bullet in the head.

That ends...now he is back to...I only love the first chick.

WTF???
It took place on a non-Deadliest Catch boat. We only saw it because of the Coast Guard camera crew. Didn't really see anything. It was all bandaged up when the CG got him, and stayed that way except for a second at the urgent care facility. Honestly, I think they showed far worse in the "previews" than they did in the actual show.
The x-rays were pretty gruesome.
I agree the previews showed waaaaay worse than the actual show.

ETA: Although some are disappointed in the season, I thought it was still great. Really setting up for some big 'storylines' next year.

I also think I have a man crush with Mike Fortner. I want to drink beer with that dude....

Josh Harris announced on The Bait tonight that he has bought the Cornelia Marie. Sounds like he wants to put together a "dream tream" crew as well.

Season finale on now.
I wonder if Freddie comes back to the Cornelia Marie/Josh

I'm thinking no. Freddie's got a good thing going on the Wizard. And it's probably better for Josh not to have him as well.

Looks like the Kiska put the rest of the fleet to shame.
This isn't the old days where the boats went out and caught as much as they could in a set amount of time. Boats are assigned quotas based on their size. On top of that, the boats can lease quotas from other boats (i.e. Boat A sells their 100,000lb quota to Boat B for the season so Boat A doesn't even have to leave dock to make money) So really, all the numbers mean is the Kiska Sea had the biggest quota available.
Not to mention it is a massive ship. Much bigger than the others.
The Discovery channel lists the Kiska Sea at 125' which would make it longer than most of the other boats on the show which seem to run around 110'-115', but the Northwestern is listed at 127'. Gross tonnage-wise, which is total internal volume, the NW is actually a little larger; 195-196 The truly massive ship is The Wizard which measures in at 155' and 499 gross tons.

Is that Jake Anderson or Jake Harris?

Josh Harris:

"Harris hopes to bring back some of his father's former crew, starting with Samoan Freddy Maugatai, currently working on the F/V Wizard under Capt. Keith Colburn."I'll have to talk to Keith," says Harris, "and I don't think that's going to be a pleasant conversation, because I want Freddy back. But he promised he'd come back and be my bait boy. I don't think Keith's going to want to let him go. We'll see what happens."

I figured Jake Anderson...but it turns out Josh is going to captain it himself.

And that's good. Tho I do think he should ask Andy (Jonathan's too close) to ride along and mentor him for King crab season. Josh does everything a captain does, but if he has a question or is unsure, he's got someone there to help him.

I'm on the fence with this. I'm not sure he'd get the respect of the crew with this approach.

Josh is going to get Eddie/Fourtner/Jake Anderson and Edgar to help run the Cornelia.

Mark it down.

Not sure who Eddie is, Mike Fourtner, I don't see him retiring only to go to another boat. Jake & Edgar both want to be captains so going to CM doesn't make sense Especially for Jake who would be back to being just a regular deck hand with Edgar there as deck boss.

I can definitely see Freddy...but not Fourtner...at least not without the Hillestrand's signing off on it. I think Jake Anderson stays on the Kiska Sea. He's got a year under his belt there, albeit a tough year, and should be better prepared for how that ship runs. There's no drama on that ship unless it involves Jake. Those guys aren't there to be the monkeys to the Discovery Channel's organ grinder. If Jake is serious about becoming a captain, he stays there without the camera and lights. But he may be a little too much of a drama queen/attention whore to give up the reality show.

If the punk ### Elliott can get a boat for himself, why can't Jake or Edgar?
Elliot partnered with the owner of the Ramblin' Rose to buy the Saga. It's hard to imagine Elliot putting that together without someone more stable backing him. You have to think Edgar probably could get into a boat if he wanted to, but the Northwestern is not owned by Sig, it's owned by the family as I understand it. Edgar probably wouldn't want to walk away from that too readily. Of course, they could become a two boat operation if there is boat/quota available. I would think that the real trick to getting a boat is not getting a boat, it's getting quota.

I doubt Jake has the money/experience to even think about his own boat yet.

They've hinted at this a couple times.

I would be happy if Elliott never caught another crab, unless it was from whatever fiance' he has this week.

Can they just let poor Phil rest in peace and stop dragging him out every show to try and ratchet up the drama factor of his boat and one kid back in business.

I wouldn't be surprised if he snaps and kills his whole family.
Rehab or no rehab, I'm sure Val's lawyer is gonna use that rambling confession to limit his custody.

While the father did the right thing in trying to get him to seek profession help, I got 2 problems with what he did.

- If it's such a small island, why didn't he drag his son away from the bar so the other crewmen weren't wasting days waiting for him?

- Why did he tell his son that if he cleans up his act, he still might have a shot with Val? He (Elliott) should've realized that ship sailed a couple seasons ago and now he's got 50,000 reasons to know she wants nothing to do with him.

The apple doesn't fall too far? Thought the same things about the father, he's no better and only letting Elliott sink further instead of slapping him back to reality.

So has this officially jumped the shark now with Sig's daughter on board one boat and Elliott's live-in girlfriend/cook who apparently has no idea what lactose-intolerant means.

I think so, yeah. We watch it but mainly because my wife and I have very little common ground as far as what we both want to watch together.

Love this show. Looking forward to it very much. Yeah, definitely looked like the other captains were pretty down on Josh. Could be editing and what not. Seemed like everyone was pretty protective of him after Phil died. Maybe they are trying to push him now the way Phil tried.

Heard "Dead or Alive" on the radio driving home today.

I don't know if there has ever been a more perfect set of lyrics in a theme song for a TV show. Especially from a song that wasn't written for the show.

Have never found him a very likeable guy, but hope the guy can get his life back together.

It is painful watching it all going down. I hope what he goes through from having that revealed on national TV may help him realize he's got a problem.

If you were the insurance carrier for his boat and saw the show, wouldn't you drop him immediately? He had a greenhorn running the hydro, is drunk and/or high all the time....

:goodposting: was thinking the same thing.. no way an insurance company can afford to take a chance on him killing someone... especially with the evidence of his abuse... treatment..abuse cycle.. they'd lose everything if they insured him and he abused and killed someone.. my guess.. last we saw of him :bye:

I quit watching Elliot went to rehab right? Or not?

What did Freddy do?
Elliot did go to rehab, it didn't stick. He started doing drugs again, basically adapted a "#### you all! I am awesome!!! The Producers of Deadliest Catch make me look bad! Get off my boat Deadliest Catch!"

Freddy, he was supposed to report by a certain time for the Wizard to leave the dock. Keith had turned the boat over to Mouse. SO Mouse called Freddy to see where he was. Freddy said "We got time. I'm not ready. Freddy's ready when Freddy's ready." and hung up. Mouse went down to get Freddy and Freddy chose to ccontinue drinking (and possibly more) instead of heading out to do more fishing.

Or the insurance company could keep taking his premium checks and profiting. And if there was ever a claim filed, refuse to pay it based on what is shown in the video.

But then I'm cynical about corporations.
