***Official Dexter Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Just finished season 2 via netflix. I thought it had a lot of potential compared to season 1 but the last episode (Lila, Doakes) was flat. They set it up all season that Dexter would be in a tough spot with Doakes and then they bailed him out with Lila. Oh well. I'll probably start season 3 season.

Felt the same way. It was a missed opportunity to learn more about Dexter.
 
Can't read this entire thread because we just wrapped up season 4 last night. Holy @#@@, what an ending to the season. S4 was as good as S1, and largely made up for a pretty poor S3. I'm going to have to find S5 soon - no way I'm waiting until next August to see how they deal with this.

Don't read too much of this thread for opinions of Season 5.Typical FFA fare of Shark Jumping and boring and armchair knowitalls etc :lmao: I'm content to wait the season out and review in full then. We're only 7 episodes in.
 
Well, last night was one of the better episodes of a sub-par season. Loved the stuff with Robocop and that scene with Deb & Dex talking about her kill was great. But Lumen...oh Lumen...I just hate that character...or should I just say Julia Stiles. Because that's really all I see with her...what is Julia Stiles doing in Dexter? She can't act. Also, it's WAAYYYYY too soon to give Dexter a girl-friend. It's like they killed Rita just to give Dexter a new love interest.

Robocop seems to be a decent adversary. I love when he threw the coffee pot at Quinn's feet. "MUTHA####ER! You guys are sounding more a like everyday!" :confused:

Yeah, you'd think the Sanitation Department would have noticed that Boyd stop showing up for work. Also, I've been troubled by the fact that no red flags have been raised for LaGuerta by the fact that a second detective is raising suspicions about Dexter in less than 3 years.

The last detective to raise suspicions about Dexter ended up being the Bay Harbor Butcher.
 
Not really LOVING this season. They've wrapped things up too neatly in the past (Smit's brother at the end of S3), but how they wrapped up that body in the warehouse was just ridiculous. Seems like this season is just a series of ridiculous close calls that defy suspension of disbelief. I do like the interaction between Lumen and Dexter though. Quinn is completely unbelievable in the Doakes role. Doakes was hard ###, but he was a good cop. Quinn is a dirty cop.

Also

Right before the final scene on the boat I was thinking to myself "at least that guy won't be able to see him dumping bags off of his boat. Dexter learned his lesson after S2 and now goes way out in the middle of nowhere to dump the bodies". Now he's back to dumping them 50 feet away from the dock? SRSLY?

I thought this too. Dexter also killed the guy and chopped him into little pieces with Cole's door all mangled?

Oh yeah, forgot about that. I get that it's TV, but there are all sort of loose threads this season. It's usually not so blatant.
 
Lot's of holes, IMO- or at least lots of plot-convenient nonsense:

- The club killing- it's bad for the cops because....?? Deb one-shot one of the bad guys who ended up killing two innocent civilians. I mean, I can see some procedural breakdowns in how things were handled (I did jury duty... ;) .. cops aren't supposed to shoot when there's a hostage involved ) but seems like it's only a "public relations disaster" because the writers want it to be. Could/should be an example of the cops doing their job trying to get crazed killers off the street. But because it pushes the story in a way they want it to go, that's the spin they put on it... I don't buy it at all.

- The broken down door to the hotel room gets fixed by Dex in time to kill the guy? Or did he call house-keeping first. That's a pretty goofy continuity issue.

- How many prominent, public figure serial killers does Miami have? I know it's the basis for the show, but still...

- Remind me- why does Quinn have such a hard-on for Dexter? Dexter caught him stealing money, knows he's a dirty cop, so Quinn jumps to following him around? Huh? I don't remember.

- I'm not buying the Lumen transformation from doofus white chick from Minnesota to willing serial-killing accomplice. Maybe there will be more to her character in terms of disgust at what Dexter is doing, but so far it's just... mmm... ok. you're a serial killer. me too.

 
Best episode of the season, hands down.

Loved the scene where Dexter was walking down the hotel hallway with Cole. The tension was palpable.

Also loved when Dexter pulled Cole off of Lumen..."Not this time!!!!" reminded me of when he pulled Trinity off of his son last season...Dexter's rage when he grabbed Cole's face and said "Look at these girls lives that you ruined!!!!" or something to that effect...vintage Dexter.

And the look on Lumens face when Dexter took his 'trophy' from Cole...complete shock, disbelief, and realization at the same time. GOOD stuff.

I had to look up online what Cole said to Dex just before Dex killed him...it was "Huey, Dewey, and Louie"

Also really liked Deb in this episode. I usually am not a fan of the actress who plays her, but she holds her own on occasion. Last nights episode was one of those occasions.

That's exactly what I came to post. Things are looking up. The broken door problem annoyed me too, but I don't think the police are actually going to get involved. I imagine Chase will want to keep things internal. He's probably most worried that Cole just bailed on him and could potentially cause trouble.
 
Have to think this one is heading for Deb having to choose between Dexter and Quinn. That talk between Deb and Dexter was pretty solid, and raises the question if she will understand Dexter's drive when she finds out he is a serial killer.

That talk makes me think she will, whenever the time may be.

Broken door isn't that much of an issue. It was broken from Suitguy's side into Dexter's side. Cops might think there was a struggle to kidnap suitguy and they fell into Dexter's room, and left from there. Dex just says he was downstairs the whole time in front of the crowd and the cops don't even think twice about it.

 
So Dexter dumps bodies close enough to shore to be filmed? One of the things that made him so bad ### was the attention to detail. this season isn't doing it for me

Hang 10 is right that the pictures were of Dexter and Lumen loading the boat. It was a little confusing the way they cut it, but I watched again and it's definitely loading.
 
Correct. Robocop's photos showed them loading the luggage, with the body parts presumably still inside. Later on, they sailed offshore a good distance, transferred everything to garbage bags, and dumped them. As far as Robocop knows, they were just sailing away for a quickie island vacation. It'll look really suspicious to everyone with Rita so recently gone.

I think we're getting set up to believe that Robocop might believe that Julia Stiles killed Rita so she could steal Dex away.

The confusion is the "match cut" between the pose Dex & Lumen were in after dumping, which was close to the pose Robocop photographed them in earlier. But in the later photo's he's scanning thru, it's clear the luggage is still being loaded on at the dock.

PS: Fun seeing Peter Weller acting again. Was getting so used to seeing him in his scholarly role in Syracuse promo materials and on the History channel (Weller went back to college and became an expert on ancient Roman art, and occasionally teaches at SU).

The newspaper used instead of plastic when he killed Boyd was ridiculously bad.

Last episode was solid, though. It's seems to be getting back on track....

 
Does Dexter ever go to crime scenes anymore? I can't remember the last time he did blood spatter work. The beheadings?

 
A lot of this season is ridiculous, feels like they're just trying to top the suspense of previous seasons at all costs. However, unlike some, I have a very easy time suspending disbelief when I watch TV/movies. I really don't care if it's feasible (as long as it's not SO over the top as to be impossible to ignore,) I just want to be entertained. And these last few episodes have been very entertaining. This has made it's way back to must-see TV for me the last 3 weeks or so after a very meh beginning.

I don't mind the humanizing - I just find the dialogue to be grating in a "24" sort of way, where every point is explicitly said and repeated. "Dexter, did you get this?" "So Dexter what does that mean?" Maybe it was there in the past, but I just find it more pronounced (and more annoying) - especially since the plot seems to be that much more contrived and situations seem to be wrapped up that much more cleanly even while he's at the brink. I thought the first episode was great, but some of the stuff since has bugged me.In any case - still enjoying the show, but watching it alongside Boardwalk EMpire makes it hard for me to say this is the best show on TV like I might have said in the past... and I find myself going to Boardwalk first :goodposting:
