***Official Dexter Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Of all the characters over the course of the series that have known Dexter's secret but for one reason or another didn't reveal it, I think Robocop's excuse is the worst.
He didn't really know the whole story, but what he did know he planned on revealing. He just didn't do a good enough job hogtying ol' Dex.
I just don't get why, if Liddy wanted Quinn's help, he didn't tease him along a bit and tell him a little about why. Some of the fun of this show is seeing how Dex gets out of seemingly impossible situations--stuck with Dan the Dentist's body with Deb about to enter the warehouse, or Deb about to search the guy's house while Dex dismembers him in the vacant house next door--stuff like that. But in the scene with Liddy & Quinn outside the station, Dex got out of trouble by Liddy just not talking anymore. If he'd said another sentence, if he hinted at what he suspected, Dex would have been in danger and the writers would have had a harder time getting out of it. But they just stopped him at, to me, an unbelievable point... twisting his words & actions to the point where Quinn still has plausible deniability and he really shouldn't.
Ditto for the Kyle Butler /Trinity's son thing."oh hi- it's Kyle"

FBI- "mmmm, mmmmm, mmmmmm, mmmmm ..... did you say something?"

" why are you arresting that guy who was asking me about Kyle Butler"

FBI- "oh look, they've got mallow-mars".

So no one was annoyed by cutsy scene of lumen and dex planning the attack on chase?
It was a little overdone, yes.
Agreed. Even my wife, who typically loves anything romantic or depicting budding love, said : "Oh come on.."
This I don't get ... IMO the whole idea of the scene was to point out how surreal the situation is ...contrasting the typical cheesy blossoming love stuff with the fact that they're planning to drug and ritualistically kill a man and then hack up his body and dispose of it. I assume they deliberately made it as cutesy as possible to do that (highlight the contrast). After all, it's not like they're trying to draw in the Hugh Grant romantic comedy crowd.

It seems like the finale will be pretty ho-hum this year. Season 4 was great - this season hasn't been. I'm still interested but Jordan Chase and the Lumen story line is weak.

If Lumen dies isn't this just a re-hash of last year?

There is a tease that Deb finds out about Dexter's "real" life next week but I bet its just that a tease. Don't see how they could end this season better than last season.

Season 1 was pretty good

Season 2 was just crazy

Season 3 was Meh

Season 4 was fantastic

Season 5 is in the Meh category for me.

The fact that all these later episodes with lumen as Dexters Robin are the highest rated Dexter shows, is sadly going to convince the creators of the show that more lumen is better for ratings

Will Lidddy's blood on Quinn's shoe get Quinn charged for his murder?
no other reason they focused on that for that amount of time. I cant see it being a non issue in finale but you never know. This season has been enjoyable but by far the least plausible and weakest storytelling of any Dexter season. They had a guy who was cutting up heads like he was playing Grand Theft Auto and he escaped the raid in the nightclub and they dont even MENTION him one time over the course of the next 4 episodes? that is insane.

did not like the finial, it was predictable. I think Deb should of found out about Dexter, my wife says she knows in the books

I liked tonight's episode. It did wrap things up pretty cleanly which makes this show continue to be in the vein of 24 where there isn't a ton of carryover from one season to the next, just a new monster and a story arc that starts and finishes within each season.

They wrapped it up neatly... I would have rathered no possibility of a Lumen return, but fine, she's gone. I also don't like how they just cleared Quinn, and nobody thought twice about his whole "I want a lawyer" act. But again, fine.

But it's not as interesting to me anymore. I dunno - I'm not too into "Dexter becoming human/etc". I liked "pretend to be normal / savage killer" Dexter better. But I guess there's only so far you can go with that.

I've never been a cop, but letting the people a homicide suspect worked with have total control over the potential evidence against him doesn't seem like the way they should do it.In spite of that I actually enjoyed the 2nd half of this season. Didn't have a problem with Lumen, thought Jordan was an interesting adversary and enjoyed the extra flavor the Liddy situation brought. Seems like I'm in the minority on that.

It was a solid season and solid finale. I think this season suffers after being stacked up with Trinity/last season finale, but overall I found in just as interesting as the other seasons.

I'd rank them as follows from memory...

Season 4 (Trinity) - Near flawless season, IMO. Great balance between Dexter killer/Dexter family man and worthy adversary.

Season 1 (Brother) - It hooked me enough to watch the following seasons, though making Rudy, Dexter's brother seemed far-fetched.

Season 5 (Chase) - Maybe since it's the most recent one, but I enjoyed the Lumen plot. At first we thought she was crazy than it turns out there's an evil group.

Season 2 (Doakes) - The finale really killed this season from me. Lyla was fantastic eye candy, but I hated how she became the deus ex machina for Dexter.

Season 3 (Mexican dude) - I still enjoyed this season, but from the memory banks it doesn't really stick out. I felt Dexter and Jimmy Smits wrapped up way too quickly.

Looks like Season 6, we'll see the Dexter of old. Single and ready to mingle.

They left it intentionally ambiguous, but Deb did say to Dexter at the end of the episode that she was happy and that [Dex] "must be too..... now that this is all over." The way she kind of smiled and walked away after that led me to believe that she may suspect Dexter was that guy, and maybe that's why she never looked behind the curtain at the camp - she didn't want to know for sure.

This has been my least favorite of all seasons, but I still liked it.

1.4.....2............3..5.....................MOST OTHER SHOWS

Right there with you. 3 and 5 are pretty interchangable- I found the Jimmy Smits character horrible, but this season has more implausible holes. And despite the amount I roll my eyes and snicker during the show (oh yeah, the wife loves that), it's still better/more enjoyable than just about anything out there.

Good enough for me - the finale actually saved the season.........

Of course it was extra convenient that Deb didn't look behind the curtain but that was expected - there will eventually be a time where Deb will face Dexter.

Also interesting that Quinn told Dex "I owe you one" - could play out at some point.

The entire Miami Metro becomse an organized, hifiving serial-killing machine?So... Quinn- does he know Dexter killed Robo? Or is he just thinking Dex let him off for his sister?

Of course Quinn knows Dexter killed Liddy but because he gets to bang Deb, he doesn't care. Which is reason 306 this season sucked.

So, are they just not going to try to solve the Liddy murder or what?
Liddy, Santa Muerte (whatever), and for that matter- vigilante murders.
It's gonna really blow some minds at Miami Metro when a car that was reported stolen a block from their last crime scene shows up bashed in and upside down at their next crime scene.
:goodposting: But Dexter's gloves also serve as hair/skin/blood catchers, so that car should be clean

This show is losing me. The gimmick is starting to wear thin.
It's always been thin. The formula has been repeated so often that it's just more apparent now.
Totally agree. Oh look, Dexter found yet another serial killer residing in his backyard! Oh noes, he almost got caught! Let's kill some lesser baddies along the way, and at the end of the year the real villain is a goner. Add in a couple moments of Dexter whining about his emotions (or lack thereof) and that's a wrap! They dropped the ball a couple seasons ago...they should have introduced some bad guy who lasted more than 1 year. Let Dexter truly be outmatched and struggle to outsmart his opponent. A joker to his batman, Moriarty to Sherlock, etc.

Not sure what you people want. It's better than 95% of what out there, so enjoy it or move to "Biggest Loser" already.

But that 5 percent is a big number. There are a lot of shows out there. And it USED to be better than 98%.

We want the level of quality of the previous seasons. We want forward movement in the overall story. Most of all, I want the Dexter from early seasons back...not this pg13 version of season 5.

I want more whining and complaining for the self proclaimed critics. Your provocative and insightful commentary keep me coming back to this thread for more. I can't get enough and wish these Hollywood hacks would take note and perhaps hire a few of you on as writers. Maybe someday.

Isn't this thread here so we can discuss this show as a whole? Pros and cons?

Yes, and while you and others enjoy ripping apart any and every show that isn't the wire, I enjoy poking at you people.

Actually Jordan would have been a good person for that role. They could have easily kept him untouchable to Dexter and his insight in people's psyches could have played well for a while. Of course the negative for most would have been that Lumen would have probably would have lasted just as long.

I generally keep quiet when a show is moves along at the same speed it always does. I've been a huge fan of Dexter in previous seasons. But it needs help. And the only shows I criticize on this board are Dexter and The Walking Dead. I'm even driving the Fringe bandwagon.

Jordan would have been good. Smits could have worked had they written his character better. Get some powerfully connected monster to threaten Dexter's family if something happens to them...then let the cat and mouse games play out.

Add me to the list of wanting more from Finale.

Not liking how the bad guy always has Dexter in his possession and somehow Dexter still has a knife always and kills him without any suspense at all.

Why cant the writers come up with something clever or at least let Chase run away to be a nemesis Dexter has to still battle next year while Dexter is battling a new nemesis as well

I wouldnt be shocked to see them bring Lumen back next year at some point especially since her episodes were the highest rated ones this season

"Dexter" used to be a close second to "Breaking Bad" as the show I couldn't wait till the next episode. That gap is widening quickly.

As a side note, the preview for the show "Shameless" that followed looks to be promising.

It's all from memory, but the ending of season 2 with Lyla bailing out Dexter really left a bad taste in my mouth. I would have loved to see what Dexter chose to do, instead of it being tied up nicely by a crazy broad.
