***Official Dexter Thread*** (1 Viewer)

If next season doesn't address this in the first episode or two that might be it as far as my suspension of disbelief goes.
Didn't we discuss this same thing after season 4? They will answer as little as they can like they did with how Trinity knew Dexter.

I liked this season more than most it seems. I thought Lumen was fine, but the about face she did after glowing on the boat was more than a little difficult to believe. The door is wide open for her to come back at some point.

The finale lacked anything really significant happening. I know that a lot of people hated Doakes getting blowed up, it was a WOW moment in the show. Yes, it was a classic deus ex machina cop-out, but this show is filled with them. What do you expect?

I think they should get more adventurous with the storyline. The head-to-head with super villians isn't really working anymore. It's way too formulaic. I was hoping the barrel killers would be more of a group vs. Dexter thing, but it didn't really work out that way.

I still think the writers have no idea what to do with Quinn.

Couldn't agree more. The last 5 minutes of the finale screamed it. They have him saying he "owes [Dex] one, Dex saying he still hates Quinn, Deb potentially hinting she knows what's going on, etc. Seemed like they were trying to leave all their options open.

Jennifer Carpenter filed for divorce Thursday, three days after she and her husband and fellow "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall, announced they are divorcing. Read the papers here, in which Jennifer states they were separated weeks before they posed together at the Emmys. The filing comes just shy of the couple's two-year anniversary, which would have been December 31, but August 9, 2010 is listed as the date of separation. Despite being separated in early August, the two smiled as they posed together on the red carpet at the Emmys on August 29, when Hall was up for Best Actor in a Drama Series, and "Dexter" was nominated for Best Drama Series. In the court papers, Carpenter cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. She asks that Hall pay her spousal support and pay for her legal fees.EW.com reported Monday that the onscreen brother and sister's split was amicable. The couple's reps jointly told EW: "Having been separated for some time, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall have filed for divorce."Hall announced in January that he was battling Hodgkin's lymphoma, but Carpenter told the Associated Press in April that her husband was "fully recovered" from the disease.Earlier this year, Hall captured a Golden Globe for playing "Dexter"'s likeable-yet-murderous title character.

You missed the add-on to the story that the probable big reason for the split was Julia Styles

She denies it and I tend to believe her. I think the probable reason is this.
Speaking from experience, cancer has a way of changing your perspective. There are many divorces afterwards. (In my case, it was other relationships that were affected).

Dexter is getting a new boss next season:

There will be a change at the helm of Showtime's flagship drama Dexter for its upcoming sixth season. The series' executive producer Scott Buck has been named new showrunner. He will succeed Chip Johannessen, who ran the show last season. Dexter's fifth season, which concluded on Sunday, ranks as the highest-rated season of the drama series to date, averaging more than 5 million viewers per week on TV and on-demand. And while Johannessen is well regarded, the feeling was that Buck, who had been on the show since the second season, serving as No.2 to Johannessen and previous showrunner Clyde Phillips, was ready to take the reins of the series, which landed several Golden Globe and SAG nominations this week. Buck also has had great rapport with the show's writers, all of whom are returning next season. Buck joined Dexter at the beginning of Season 2 as a co-executive producer and was upped to executive producer at the beginning of Season 4. He has written or co-written the last three season finales, including the one that aired on Sunday. Before Dexter, WME-repped Buck was a writer/producer on HBO's Six Feet Under.

It's all from memory, but the ending of season 2 with Lyla bailing out Dexter really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Pretty much every season has wrapped up like this except 4.
The worst ending of all was the Smits season. The guy's brother has issues and is all over Dexter, then they basically hash it out with a hug? This show is still pretty good (though it's fallen a long ways) but they generally do a crappy job of wrapping up the season.
Yes, that season is the first one I think of when discussing endings that are too clean. But I'm used to it now. They did it in season one, they're doing it now.

Dexter kills another "innocent" person
No.
You're going to tell me Robo "fit the code"?
Dexter is a serial killer plan and simple, he has killed at least 3 innocent people off the top of my head. i hope they do not try and make him into a good guy/hero but I have a feeling that is the road they are taking. love the show but I think it has run its course
What innocent has he killed besides the photographer guy from last season?

I thought Lumen would want to torture Chase a bit before killing him...I was hoping she would stab him in the thigh and twist the knife in there a bit...then maybe chop off a toe or two...something...ANYTHING to make him suffer like he made those girls suffer...

Also, theres NO CHANCE IN HELL Deb thinks Dex has ANYTHING to do with anything. A few in this thread were discussing the possibility that she may suspect Dex because of what she said to Dexter "Glad this is all over" or whatever it was...she was just happy the Quinn was off the hook, that she "solved" the barrel girls case and that Chase got what was coming to him.
No chance? Watch the end again. She doesn't say she's glad this is all over, she specifically says that Dexter must be happy "now that it's all over." Dexter was only peripherally involved in the case. She knows that a) The ones wiping out the rapists were victim #13 and a vigilante boyfriend/husband, etc.

b) Dexter suddenly has a "boarder" who fits the description of all the other victims, and then disappears after all the rapists are dead

c) Quinn was suspended "to protect Dexter"

d) Robocop signed out all his surveillance equipment under Quinn's name

e) Robocop is now dead and Quinn won't tell her anything except that he didn't kill Robo

They left it intentionally ambiguous but to say there's no chance in hell? Not so sure about that. She could know and not say anything because not only is Dexter her brother, but she found the whole vigilante killing spree romantic and just. Also, in the books, she knows - so it's more than likely that's going to flesh out on screen at some point, this could be the embryonic stage of that storyline's development.
:goodposting: There's more than enough out there to develop that storyline that she knows. Of course, they could just completely drop it.

Guy in the men's room at the beginning of the season. Dex killed him for talking back to him.

Never get caught.

Killing must serve a purpose, otherwise it's just plain murder.
http://dexterwiki.sho.com/page/The+Code+of+Harry

What Dexter learned from his father about life:

Killing innocents is NEVER allowed

Always take time and make sure you have the right person-EVIDENCE

Be extremely careful with the killing and more importantly the PREPARATION!

Remember: YOU control your urges to kill, they don't control you.

Fake emotion and normality to fit in.

never get caught!

When taking a psychology personality test, always answer the question with the opposite of what you feel

What Dexter learned from his father about death:

That it's real, and that it will happen to everyone. It's just a matter of how and why it happens.

Cops care a lot when other cops are killed.

People are sad when their loved ones die and they are full of grief, the one thing Dexter has trouble faking.

That guy was totally guilty of something. Besides, his father told him that's the first human thing he's done.
"His father" is in Dexter's imagination, you know... "feeling human" isn't a reason in the code.
Spoiler tags?? :boxing:

Kind of hard to watch Dexter and not know this.

re: the Deb and Dex actors splitting up- I know people are speculating that Dex and Stiles might have hooked up, causing the split.

I mentioned I've seen Deb around my neighborhood a bit, and I mentioned that to my wife when she commented on the separation/divorce. She said she's seen Julia Stiles a bunch too... which immediately got us wondering, maybe Stiles and Deb developed a thing and THAT split the marriage up.

Finally got around to watching this show. Caught up with the first season and a half and it is amazing.

The premise of this show would've been really easy to one to screw up, but they pull it off beautifully. I watch alot of TV shows and it feels like it's been a long time since I've seen a show that I just couldn't turn away from.

:oWelcome aboard!

Some of the secondary characters have been exhausted and it's time for a complete overhaul. I'd like to see Dexter move to Tampa or something.
That’s preposterous. What and have Dexter meet a long lost cousin or have a wacky neighbor?Harry and Harrison would be the only one that would make sense to remain under that scenario or the other 2 ####### kids? Who are the other regulars? A bunch of boring recycled cardboard cut out cops?Sure the Angel, LaGuerta thing is done and those characters boring, but Masuka, Deb and Quinn still have plenty of milage on their storylines. Send Angel & LeGuarta somewhere else, bring in a new Lieutenant and a new cop and we’re fine. The only thing that really matters is the villain story line and seasons are judged on that.

I think that Angel could still have one final bout of being a worthwhile character, but he definitely hasn't shown it the past couple of seasons, thanx to LeGuarta dragging him down. So kill two birds with one stone. Kill LeGuarta, violently and nastily. Gives us revenge-mode Angel, which could have some mileage, gives an obvious target for Dexter, and gets rid of the anchor LeGuarta.

I was joking chief.

Maybe the old captain could then run the place. He could be a real #####. Kinda missed him the last couple of seasons.

thats awesome!I love it, kill Laguerta, and then hire Vic Mackey to take over as Captain. Vic will bring order and chaos to the show

About halfway through S3 now and I can't get enough. The show is firmly entrenched in the #4 spot on my very carefully chosen personal all-time list (behind The Wire, The Shield, and Friday Night Lights). A move into the top 3 is in play.

For me, the serial killer aspect is just a small part of the show. It's really just a great drama that happens to be about a serial killer.

Halfway through season 4 at this very moment. This #### is getting crazy.

I noticed Rita was only in 50 of the 60 episodes (imdb) and I'm dying to know/terrified to find out why that is. Since she's starring in a major network show now, I'm not hopeful on how that turns out. I really like her.

Btw, anybody notice how different Julie Benz looks on No Ordinary Family than she does on Dexter? I can pinpoint why, but she looks completely different. More lines on her face or something in Dexter or maybe they try to make her look more plain on Dexter (though she's still smoking hot). Not sure.

She gets hotter as the series progresses. She started out kind of plain if that's possbile.

The fake #### probably helped.

Just got to the end of Season 4.
It's a bit depressing that the S5 DVDs are still 7 months away.
