I'm 5 episodes into Season 1. It's ok but nothing special at this point. Did most people feel it was a slow starter?

I just started watching a few months ago. I wasn't really blown away by the first few episodes either. By the end of the 4th season, I thought it was an all-time great TV show.I think, in the beginning, they may have tried too hard to hook people on the blood/gore/serial killer stuff, but it's the characters and the story that make the show great.

I just watched it a few months ago and I thought it started slow but I am glad I kept going.

Finish season 1 and if you are not into it, you aren't likely to be.
I watched the first two seasons over the last couple of weeks. Are the rest of the seasons pretty much the same thing? Dexter trying to figure out "who he really is" and adjust to leading a normal life while not getting caught?

Basically, yes.

But if you don't stick through the John Lithgow season, you'll really be missing out. F'img brilliant.

Just a :blackdot:

Started watching on Netflix, but it seems only seasons 1&2 are there so far. Won't be checking back into this thread until I catchup, or at least get through season 3. Greatly enjoying it though.

Meh. Really liked the first 2 seasons but the formula got a little tired. I'm glad I was able to cram them into a couple of weeks. I won't break my back trying to see the next 3 seasons or whatever.

You should consider skipping to the fourth season.

End of that season is a jaw dropper.

Season 6 update

Deadwood alum Mary Parker has signed on to appear in several episodes of Dexter season six. Parker will play the sister of Colin Hanks' character. Hanks will appear in all 12 episodes as a brilliant expert on ancient artifacts who somehow becomes linked to a series of grisly murders in Miami.

Other season six guest stars include Brea Grant, Billy Brown, Edward James Olmos, Aimee Garcia, and Mos Def.

Showtime’s president David Nevins has revealed that the show will be going back to its “roots”, saying: “Dexter this season will be in some ways a return to the Dexter that you’ve seen in the early seasons. There’s a really interesting story and journey that he’s going to be on this year. There’s going to be some degree of getting back to his roots.”

He added that Dexter will not be pitted against one “big bad” in the sixth season.

“There’s one interesting story that will move through the season, and it will be cast interestingly, but it’s not exactly that one person,” he teased.

There are parts in the 3rd and 4th season that I think move too slow, but they both pick up and turn out great. I wouldn't suggest skipping seasons or bailing out, but to each their own.

tonight's the night
Crap, I ordered HBO for Game of Thrones and now I may have to order Showtime for this. When does season 6 start? Also, while I know this is typical FFA for tv shows, holy crap there are some people with some freaking ridiculous standards for TV shows these days. Sure there are loose threads and things that go unanswered (still want to know what they did with the car at the end of last season) but it is entertaining TV and that is more than you can say about most shows out these days.I really enjoyed the season 5 storyline, I think it was more about the psychological transformation of Stiles character from a victim into a killer (revenge) and then how she was basically able to let go once it was all over. I liked it better than all except maybe the first season. I loved Lithgow as well, in season 4. Season 2, which a lot of people seem to have liked, while still entertaining, felt out of character that Dexter would have anything to do with someone so out of control, and mess up his "perfect" cover life. Probably like this for me: 1,5,4,2,3  To each their own.

Dexter usually doesn't come out until September?Summer time is Weeds.

i felt the same. i watched a few episodes then stopped. But i finished season 1 and am hooked.Just started season 3.
So the second half of season one really picked up steam. The final few episodes were really good. Will definitely move on to Season Two. Still don't care much about anything other than the main character but that's good enough for now.

OMG!

One episode left in Season 2. Is Dex gonna admit it all? No way!

WTF>>>>Dokes is in custody!

I've said this since Lila admitted to setting up the guy to attack him at the bowling alley.

Lila is taking the fall for this. Ah, what the hell do I know. That was before Dokes got setup.

Season Two was great! Bring on the finale.

Consensus here seems to be that the finale sucked. I disagree.

i liked the bay harbor butcher season, but enjoyed the Trinity and Miguel Prado seasons more. last one was my least favorite.

:goodposting: Maybe my favorite show all time. Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, and Dexter are my top 3. Tough to decide the order. I can't imagine missing a single episode of Dex. Everyone I have turned on to it agrees.

Really liked the finale. I would have been okay with letting Lila carry over to another season but was fine with wrapping it up.Great season, much better than the first one imo.I hear a lot of good things about the season with Lithgow (season 4?)How is season 3?

Finished Season 5. I really liked it, but I can see why many were disappointed.

I enjoyed the storylines while they were happening, but they feel a bit chopped off or rushed at the end. Feels like the season needed another 2 or 3 episodes. Or even develop the Lumen/Camp buddies storyline more throughout.

It would've helped not to have to devote time to the stupid Bautista/Maria relationship. They were a downer for the season.

As always, Deb was great and the Quinn thing works well.

I'm not sure why, but Season 5 had a more subdued feel to it that I actually liked. I don't know which season is my favorite, but Season 5 would be up there, despite it's flaws.

Just finished watching all the seasons.

Really good show, one of the better shows out there.

Looking forward to season 6

Is this the season where Deb will not bang a new person???

Every season, she is banging someone new it seems.

I may get SHO for Dexter only.

Is there a way people can watch the shows shortly after if you don't have showtime?

I notice a lot of people rate S3 as one of the lower seasons.

I liked the Miguel character a lot, probably right up there with Arthur Mitchel.

They did wrap him up very quickly, but his character was very intense and believable.

Side note

Any thoughts on the new series Homeland?

I guess it premieres after the 1st Dexter show this year?

Looks good.

We bought all 5 seasons on blue ray when Amazon had it as the gold box deal. We're in E5S2 and totally hooked. We're watching at least 2 episodes a night.

I'm totally smitten with the Lila character.

Resisting temptation to read thru this thread. I read some of the first page while still in S1 and saw some spoilers I didn't want to see. This is more of a :blackdot: for me right now.

Wrapped up way too neatly.

I'm ready for them to wrap this series up. Not much left to do.
I agree. I found myself really not liking last season as Dexter did something stupid over and over again to almost get caught. Seems like their season formula to build suspense and it annoys me.
