So...you can wheel a guy into a luggage area of an airport and there's no cameras in this joint to see you do it?

They really don't give a damn anymore.

Why don't they just give Dexter super powers next?

I'll still watch but that scene even made my son say, "Yea...I don't know about this season, dad...not looking too plausible."

My wife watched this for the 1st time last night and said the same thing.I was explaining back stories to her throughout, and I ended everything with, it was a lot better the 1st few seasons.

Yeah, the bad writing and major plot holes just keep getting worse.1st 4 seasons were great, but the reasons to watch are growing thin. Actually, I'm not sure why anyone does.Plot's dumb. The last time they had characters worth caring about was Season 4. With good characters and an interesting story, the dumb premise of the show could be covered up. Now, the ridiculousness of this whole ordeal really stands out (how the heck did we all buy into a show about a cop training his serial killer son?). As I said, Deb's the only reason to watch anymore.

For me, I want to be entertained, it entertains me, I wanna see how this ends, and I know there will be flaws from here on out...so I will be here til the end.

I will too.I don't mind some flaws. They've always been there, but they just haven't come up with the interesting characters an storylines lately to mask the flaws (and I didn't even think the Julia Stiles thing was that bad).I think it's fallen victim to the same problem "24" had (and I loved that show). Format doesn't lend towards character development and when the formula grows stale, things go downhill fast.

Yea. The formula here has always been a season-long plot / adversary. But it's hard to have tension when you know the main baddy is surviving until the last episode. The first two seasons with Dokes were great - that was excellent back and forth. The Smits season was decent enough, and it picked back up with Lithgow (although I do think season 4 kind of cemented the "formula")Been really downhill from there. Plus, the amount of killing without getting caught is ridiculous (yea, no cameras in the baggage room? Please.)Still here though, because I do want to see how it ends.

I think it's just something we have to live with now. There are different show-runners and they clearly approach Dexter's kills very differently.

It used to be that Dex was very methodical in his kills. They were very planned out, very slow developing, and very careful. It always took, at minimum, an entire episode (if not multiple episodes) for him to plan to investigate, investigate, plan the kill, and then methodically complete the kill. Things like cameras and people walking in on him were accounted for. If something wasn't going perfectly, he'd back out and try again tomorrow.

That approach is totally different now. It's completely outside of what the Dexter that they originally presented to the viewers would do, but it's been consistent in that way these last few years so we have to just accept it. He's not methodical, and doesn't think of the clever ways he could get caught any more. We can go from introduction of a character to the knife being driven into their heart on the table in less than 10 minutes of screen time.

In this last episode, he found out about Victor, investigated him, found him, and killed him all in about 2 hours of time in the show. He basically ad libbed it in the airport with little planning, none of his tools, and none of his precautions. The Dexter we were originally presented would never do that. Some will say it's character development (or undevelopment) but I think it's just sloppy writing. The show moves much faster now and is more akin to an action show where these kinds of things are ignored to keep things moving rather than the methodical show it was in the past where all these things were accounted for. It's certainly not alone in that devolution, as even a show like Breaking Bad has headed in that direction (with accidental kills being cleaned up in a 30 second montage rather than a 2-episode arc). It was better before, but this is the new world and I'm ok with suspending my disbelief on it if they put together a good main plotline, unlike last season.

I think Dexter has changed over the series. He is less cautious, and doing things that he never would have done before. I don't think it's lazy writing, I think they are doing that on purpose to show how he has changed.

Agreed. I think it's similar to how Walter White has evolved over time so that instead of being meticulous and careful about every little detail, it's more like Ok I gotta get this done, F everything else.I thought the past two seasons of Dexter were both pretty bad (the most recent season was terrible), but I have hope for it after seeing the opener to this one. Agree with the poster above that it was a much better idea to have her be clued in right away. I really didn't want to spend the next two years with the does she know/doesn't she know storyline. Besides, she's far too good a cop to be duped for very long. And to the poster from earlier in the summer about Deb's inconsistencies...have you never known a hypocrite in real life??? It's not a plot hole, it's just a character with a lot of issues!

in the books, he and rita's kids have super powers.

I am now only 6 episodes in but I have already seen sloppy, take chances Dexter. You know real serial killers start to get full of themselves and take more chances as they evolve. They may begin to taunt police, make insecure kills, leave evidence, etc. That is usually how they get caught.

Yeah I mean the whole airport scene was beyond absurd in terms of the lack of security cameras and how everything was just so conveniently set up for him -- a wheelchair here, a "do not enter" sign there, etc. Now THAT was lazy writing

Yeah, and Dexter even had a line about how his current situation with Deb is due to him forgetting The Code, but, by being compassionate?? No, Dexter, you blew the part of The Code that was about only taking out guys who the law couldn't take care of. He blocked the police investigation into Colin Hanks to keep him for himself, and he's already doing the same thing with the Ukranian dude... keeping evidence for himself and taking it all on instead of letting the police do it.

i thought that was the best written episode of dexter in years. sure the airport scene was absurd but how quickly deb figured it out was very true to her character. i was pretty shocked they revealed it so quickly but glad they did.

of course you gotta deal with stuff like bautista ask quinn if he wants to goto a bar and then getting mad when he orders a drink

Only change: when Dexter goes back to his apartment and sees Deb has turned it inside out he should have said, "hey, Pumpkin." Otherwise, great episode.

I agree. Dare I say this season may be just as good as the first? I'm crazy excited for the next episode. Can't say I felt that way about Dexter in a while.

No chatter about this yet? Thought it was another very solid episode. Not sure how they're going to play this out over two years, but at least now I have some confidence that they will be able to do it fairly well instead of :deadhorse:

High quality episode 2. Great start. I like how they're going more introspective. Not a lot of writers could pull this off.

I'm not entirely sold yet on Deb giving Dex a pass just yet.
I sort of feel the same way. I can't pinpoint exactly why I don't like the way she's going about it, but something just seems off. I'd almost rather see her decide to help him kill vs. this silly rehab thing. :shrug:I'm curious where the conflict with the intern goes. at leaving him in the park.

He should've put his hand in a glass of warm water before leaving

Very strong start to the season so far. Much happier with these first two episodes than anything since Season 4. Very happy they are confronting the Deb Finds Out issue head on and not delaying it further or playing it over the course of the season. Also thrilled that they appear to have gotten rid of the idiotic "Deb's in love with Dexter" storyline that mucked up so much of last season. I don't think the show will ever regain the level it was at the first four seasons but like others have said it's still entertaining for me, Michael C. Hall is brilliant in the role and I still enjoy watching.

Yea, I'm still watching and enjoying it. Although I do feel it's clearly not as good as it was, but maybe that's because the premise (Serial killer works for the police and kills bad people) is somewhat limiting. Not too many places you can go and still stay true to him being a serial killer, which is the point of the show.

I do somewhat wish this intern would go away - I get tired of these season-long conflicts where Dexter thinks it's over, but it's not. I'd almost rather the intern go away (I find it hard to believe he wasn't scared off) and they introduce a new two to three episode arc, etc.

Dexter is the most absent parent ever, too. Having a hard time w/ that as well.

Solid acting in this show - that's what really saves it.

I was wondering about the kid after this week's episode. If Dexter's staying with Deb, where's Harrison? Who's he staying with?

They showed this in the last episode. The live-in babysitter (I forget her name) has him. A pretty convenient deal.

I guess I didn't put it together that she had moved in. I know she had her own space in the apartment but didn't realize she was living there full-time.

Agreed, I thought the only believable choices here were to turn him in, or start feeding him targets

I'm not really liking either of the two storylines this season. As above, the idea that Deb can cure Dexter after finding 117 (according to this site) blood slides, making him the second most prolific serial killer ever identified worldwide (according to Wikipedia) just defies any credibility. The intern thing is just dumb as well. I liked Season 5 unlike many here, but last season, especially the second half was terrible and this is looking worse. Still watching but nowhere near the top of my list anymore.

This show never had room for Dexter having a kid either, that's another writing fail.

Well, it looks like they've corrected course then. She's not trying to cure him anymore. Appears they just needed to have a transition between the discovery and her joining the cause. She spent 2 episodes trying to cure him and is now moving I'm. I'm fine with that.

The intern is done. A little silly how they ended it, but the important thing is that it's done.

Guys, I watched every season of Dexter until last seasons. I was so fed up with the show at the end of that season (with Julia Stiles) especially the part where his sister was in the room where they killed someone but didnt want to look in the curtain, that was too much to take. I heard though that this season has been really good, so my question is, Do i have to watch the whole season 6 to enjoy this season? (FWIW, someone ruined for me last years twist that the sister finally found out)

Skip it. Nothing that happened is important (except the final scene of the season, I guess). The last 2 seasons were clearly filling time to get to this season.

thanks, did not want to waste 12 hours on what I knew was absolute junk writing, reviews for this year are glowing about the Resurrection of this show

I skipped it too...doesn't really feel like I missed much. Maybe a little back story with the intern - I didn't really understand why he hated Dexter so much. Oh, and Deb got promoted.

yep, i caught up to these 3 episodes. Just watched the end of Colin Hanks murder. Was a bit confused about the whole Intern walking into his room thing. I guess he hooked up with the Nanny who lives there full time? Did Dexter and the nanny have a fling?Did not know wtf that hand was in the first episode. Besides for the little catty talk between cop who looks like he is on crack and Bautista, looks like I didnt miss much.PS was the black dude who was gunned down a recurring character last season?

I think the new girl who owns the nursery will get romantically involved with Dexter. We will find out it was her who actually killed all this spells years ago, and just used her boyfriend to get away with it.

Dex and nanny did not have a fling. IIRC she has the apartment next door, and there is a door in between their apartments.

Did not know wtf that hand was in the first episode. Besides for the little catty talk between from the cop who looks like he is on crack and Bautista, looks like I didnt miss much.

The hand was the hand the Ice Truck Killer used in S1, the intern had bought it online from another hot chick intern who stole it from the evidence room.

PS was the black dude who was gunned down a recurring character last season?

He was introduced last season as a cop that came over from Chicago, so yes was re-occurring.

He idolized Dexter and came up with a video game where you could take on the character of any previous serial killer.Dexter hated the idea, shattered his dreams, and intern was forever stricken with disgust towards Dexter.

Yea, the CC was a way to eff with his life.Sending him the hand i guess was just a way to eff with him as well...i think...i dont think there was anything really behind that.

Did Dexter and the nanny have a fling?

Dex and nanny did not have a fling. IIRC she has the apartment next door, and there is a door in between their apartments.

Did not know wtf that hand was in the first episode. Besides for the little catty talk between from the cop who looks like he is on crack and Bautista, looks like I didnt miss much.

The hand was the hand the Ice Truck Killer used in S1, the intern had bought it online from another hot chick intern who stole it from the evidence room.

PS was the black dude who was gunned down a recurring character last season?

He was introduced last season as a cop that came over from Chicago, so yes was re-occurring.
thanks dude, so what was up with sending Dexter the hand? was he trying to frame him for something? Also didnt understand why he was cancelling his credit cards? was it just to be a ####?
Yea, the CC was a way to eff with his life.Sending him the hand i guess was just a way to eff with him as well...i think...i dont think there was anything really behind that.
they sort of implied though there was more than just the hand, since he allegedly framed some video game dude to get the game or something
