So, the psychiatrist is the one doing the brain killings, right? Or at least masterminding them...

Did I miss where they had hard evidence that the guy they dumped last night was for sure the brain-taking killer? I'm finding myself zone out more often than not during these episodes now.

I don't think they knew he was the brain surgeon, just that he was the one-shoe killer.

I am almost certain that the psychiatrist is going to end up on Dexter's table at some point, either because she has some role in the brain surgeon killings -- either as the killer herself or as some master manipulator of one of her patients -- or because Dexter ultimately realizes how much unnecessary death and evil has resulted from her unconventional treatments. I think Dexter's melodramatic "I wanted to spend time with family" line while looking at Deb and Dr. Vogl at the end of last night's episode pretty much sealed it. The writers will want it to come off as some big twist, but I have a feeling it will fall pretty flat much like the Doomsday Killers twist in Season 6.

All most people care about at this point is how is it going to end. Unfortunately they haven't given us a compelling enough storyline to get us to that conclusion. Lots of filler.

Right but I assumed when she was handing dexter the samples and gifts at the end, they were concluding that storyline?

I think the producers think we'll buy that, and then be shocked and surprised when it turns out not to be over. Like how shocked and surprised we were to learn that Edward James Olmos was in Colin Hanks' head all last season. Didn't see that coming!

I kinda hope they do resume it, otherwise it was a really lazy finish.

I'm curious, since Dexter knew he was looking for a killer who was performing amateur brain surgeries on his victims, I guess Vogel said to herself, "Hmmm I once sanctioned a brain surgery on one of the people on Dexter's list. But instead of telling him about this and saving some time, I'll let him vet each and every person until he stumbles across the one with the brain scar."

Or am I missing something?

I think the writers' response would be that Dr. Vogel did not want to let Dexter know about the extent of her untraditional psychiatric treatment methods (which I think we will discover more of as the season progresses). However, I agree with you in that I was thinking the exact same thing.

I was on a ferry from Brooklyn to Manhattan in Sunday and saw the guy who played Dexter's brother/Deb's boyfriend Brian/Rudy. That was my favorite Dexter experience of the weekend.

Agree with you...but Dex being a smart guy, I would think that once she acknowledged knowing about the surgery, wouldn't Dex be like "Um doc...think ya coulda saved us some time here???". Instead, he just said nothing. I might be misremembering, but I thought he even mentioned something about this guy possibly being one of Vogel's untraditional patients (in the voiceover episode that bothered all of us).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he say exactly that?

One of amy all-time favorite shows but it's almost like they forget that it was the FINAL season. About 1/2 way through the writers went, oh yeah this is it, maybe we should pick it up some! (At least I hope they pick it up.)

I loved how Joey thinks if he solves the murder he might still make captain, has his lead suspect under surveillance in an old rental, not his Porsche, acting suspiciously, and leaves after a call from his girlfriend.

I love how Dexter...knowing that Quinn is now watching this kid like a hawk...has no idea if the kid is home or not...decides to break into his house.

If the kid is home...then Quinn will see you...duh.

Writers just don't give a damn anymore. I'm hoping they'll find a way to bring back Lumen or whatever her name is...and have her slather herself in oil and rub all over Hannah in an episode or three.

Plus, the car was in the garage so he had to assume the kid was home. Then, he finds the pics and...prints them out on site!

Maybe i missed it, how did they explain deb's suicide/murder attempt to the other cops? Surely they would have heard that the former lieutenant and dex went over a bridge in a car no?

the writers gave up.
This is one of the least troubling things to explain. It was a car accident. They swerved and went over the bridge. Neither of them are saying anything about it.

I'm not saying we shouldn't nitpick the writing, but there are much more obvious things to complain about than this, no?

Did anyone even mention it, though? This feels like a season of 24.

With Deb's mental state in recent times, her seemingly strained relationship with Dex, and the weird conversation she had with Quinn in the parking lot (where he thought she was acting weird and suspicious, not to mention her LaGuerta "confession" that was referenced again last night), I just feel like it would have been something that came up. Just seemed like something that woulda come up in conversation is all, since they were all worried about her. Not saying they would automatically assume a suicide or murder attempt, but at least a mention. Instead, it just felt like they needed a way for Deb to hit bottom so they threw that in.

Why is it an issue? Why would they need to directly address it?

Occam's Razor.

This wasn't a little car accident. They drove through the barricade of a freaking bridge and plunged into the water right in the middle of the day. There was a witness on the side of the river who saw everything, including both of them nearly drown. Deb dives in after Dex and saves his life and holds him above the water til help arrives. The cops presumably come to the scene to find out two of their own had nearly just died.

And then seemingly the next day, everything is forgotten. I guess the issue isn't so much that they failed to address it, as much as the fact that they could have used a less conspicuous method for Deb to have hit bottom. Something only her and Dex would know about. Instead, they made a big show about the car crash with all that build-up of Deb acting so strange, so if you're gonna do that then there has to be SOME repercussion afterwards. Just seemed like, "Oh hey this will be easy. Let's have her steer them off a bridge and it'll never be discussed again".

Anyway despite the lengthy post, it's not something that's keeping me up at night. Just figured as long as we were all piling on...mostly I just can't wait til Breaking Bad starts up again and it's frustrating that I don't have something awesome to hold me over til Sunday!

Whatever happened, happened between the two episodes. Maybe it wasn't "the next day", maybe the time between the car going in the pond, and the session at the therapist's office, was three days or a week. It's left up to you to fill in the blank.

Here's hoping for a Julia Stiles return which leads to a threesome with Deb and Hannah.

Opening scene to final episode, Dex walks in on the 3some, they kill him just as he walks in the door.

Only he was with Jamie and Cassie (harrison was left alone in a shipping container) the 5 woman orgy carries on.

Quinn shows up....with Matuskas daugter.....they kill Quinn, and Matuskas daughter joins the orgy.

I feel this ending wraps everything up well and leaves us the possibility of a movie down the road.

My wife and I were having a debate about who was hotter. The new nextdoor neighbor (I forgot her name but she used to be in One Tree Hill) vs Hannah. I said Hannah blows her away. My wife thought I was crazy but she used to be obsessed with One Tree Hill.
