Official Dez Bryant (1 Viewer)

NFL Media has produced the incident/investigation report regarding a 2011 incident in a Wal-Mart parking lot that involved Dez Bryant.

This is the incident that has been generating headlines and wild rumors over the last 24 hours. The report says an unknown person called police to explain a black female was "being dragged from one vehicle to another vehicle" by a black male. The vehicle the woman was dragged from was a Mercedes registered to Bryant. When police arrived on the scene, the alleged victim was not there. Soon after, she arrived in a Bentley with Bryant and said she had an argument with a man named Alex Person and that she was not assaulted in any way. The police let everyone go, determining there was no offense. It remains unclear if there is any video of the incident, although most Wal-Marts have security cameras. You can read the full incident report at the link below.
that is in no way 5xs worse than Ray Rice.

sounds like it's not even close.

dragging women across pavement must be normal for some people here to say that isnt bad. lets say if it wasnt Dez doing the dragging would this be something the media cared about or was willing to pay money for?

of course it's not normal but on a scale where guys are killing people, knocking out their girlfriend, shooting/waiving guns at the wives with a kid in the car, etc. it rates relatively low on the scale of thuggery...especially since no one was arrested and it was 4 years ago. Certainly don't condone it but this was being hyped as if it were some career threatening tape and it sounds like it's much ado about nothing.

It's not even 0.5x worse...it's starting to look like whoever is looking to make a quick buck off of this is seriously exaggerating what he's sitting on.

My interest has now bottomed out. These things grab my attention for about 48 hours and if nothing happens in that time, I'm done.

Lennay Kakua or whoever Teo's fake girlfriend was, Ray Rice, etc... Do it or don't, I got places to be.
We'll see you tomorrow.

Why are you assuming the tape "only" shows dragging? The person that called the police reported the dragging. The video may contain much more.

Fair point - but I am making an inference based on all the available facts:

1. police investigation/incident report is relatively "mild".

2. incident happened long ago - no charges were ever filed and the incident was never brought up before.

3. this looks like a straight up money grab by whoever is coming forward now, based on the timing and by offering it up to the highest bidder and/or looking to blackmail Bryant. It stands to reason that some one looking to create a market for his "product/services" is going to fluff it up a bit.

With all that said, I'll just wait and see what comes out of this. No reason to discuss it any further until more information comes to light.

Terez Owens sure got a lot of hits to his website by saying his "source" told him the video is 5x worse than Ray Rice. Terez wins, we lose for wasting the last 2 days on this ending up as some dragging incident the victim doesn't even acknowledge, so bye bye story from me unless something substantive pops up. I'm done with the gossip.

I have no idea whether there's a story here or not, but people who take the time to post to say they no longer care about the story remind me of folks who spend two dollars to call a telephone polling line and instead of registering either "Yes" or "No", boldly pick "No opinion." C'mon kids. You care. Otherwise, why post? It's OK. You are loved!

Sounds like this is a dead end story.

At least we have a new nickname for Dez Bryant.

From this point forth he will now be referred to as

ALEX PERSON

Because making a post on a message board that you already post at a dozen times a day is just such a headache that no one could possibly do it except for life altering issues.

I think the key word here is dragged

what kind of things are commonly dragged?

a dead body -- that's what

he murdered her in the parking lot with a lead pipe, dragged her to his car, where he propped her up in the passenger seat and put sunglasses on her.

most likely there was a buddy in the backseat doing the voice when the officer questioned her.

They should make a movie about this.

So honest questions. How has Schefter been "working" this since September? He said it's taken up a lot of his time. Why was he so careful with his words yesterday? Why did he say that there's a lot too it? Has the NFL league office seen the tape?

My guess; he saw the story picking up steam and wanted to attach his name to it--as early in the process as possible. He likely heard rumors, looked into it a bit, and didn't get anywhere. There was no work to be done--especially nothing for him to spend any amount of time on. He'll likely look a little silly if the story as reported earlier--"career threatening", "5x worse than Ray Rice", etc--never comes to fruition.

And I think there is zero chance the NFL has seen the tape. From the way it sounds, I don't think anyone has, save the party in possession.

was driving home last night and heard the local talk shows talking about this and the overwhelming theme was:

"I'm not really gonna say anything till I see the video"....

it just got me thinking that it seems like that is where we are at now with stuff like this........it didn't really happen unless there is a video......

Has anybody with credibility even confirmed a video exists? Or is all of this spinning off Terez Owens saying he heard a rumor a video existed and prior were trying to sell it? Schefter confirmed he heard rumors of the video, and heard rumors of what was on it, but so far nobody has actually seen any film OR figured out who's trying to sell the film.

Seems like a rumor spread around (possibly made up) and Perez Owens ran with it, and then a bunch of random/hack media outlets have reposted the article or quotes from it.

So far, here's what we know:

-Perez Owens says his "sources" say there is a video of Dez doing something 5x worse than Rice. No proof, but the headline/title of his story grabbed people's attention.

-A few of Dez's bitter and cut off old friends say they have a video and will sell it to the highest bidder (whether they be Dez or the media). Other than that, there is no further Information outside of a few screenshots, which can be taken from other videos and manipulated to look like something is happening. For example, Dez could be giving a great big bear hug but if taken from the right angle at the right time, the screenshot could be sold as something much worse than it is.

-Florio/Shefter say they can confirm they've heard these rumors. Never confirmed they have seen video or know the true story, but media outlets then reposted "they confirm these rumors" as if they said "we confirm Dez did something bad."

-Random people with zero credibility who wouldn't be in the know of anything Dez behind the scenes (@JaywanInc and Scott Bischof) have posted stuff on Twitter that has somehow been taken as gospel and their quotes are being used for the majority of articles circulating around. Who in the world is @JaywanInc and Scott Bischof?

Maybe there is more to the story that hasn't been leaked yet (the Walmart report seems to be a non story from the police report), but when you take a step back and look at the facts, this is starting to seem a little ridiculous. Id imagine it someone was actually trying to sell a video, we'd at least know who it was by now and someone other than Perez Owens would have some real info.

How I sum this up in in 5 seconds ------> http://cdn.someecards.com/someecards/usercards/MjAxMi0zODJlYmNiMzQ2MGMzM2Rm.png

This is my speculation with no facts whatsoever:

The video is not from the Walmart camera's as I think that would be hard for a blackmailer to get a hold of without getting in trouble with Walmart. The video could be from one of his posse's cellphones and that person got on the outs with Dez and thus was blackmailing him. If it is from a cellphone, it is likely to be more damning as it will not only be video but audio as well, and it will be up close and personal.

This would make sense of Dez's tweet indicating he felt betrayed.

Again, pure 100% speculation. No verified facts are contained in this post.

I can also confirm that I have heard these rumors too, we talked about it last night at my bowling league. Pretty much how it works right there.

Jay-Z is a gangster & an illuminati member that is in with Obama. This blackmailer is gonna have 99 problems & not having Dez next year on his dynasty team isn't gonna be one.
Gonna need you to stop typing for the next 48 hours.

In all honesty, I lost any interest I had when I saw that the "incident" occured in 2011.
The NFL doesnt care if it happened 10 years ago if there is video of one of the NFL players doing something bad the NFL will act if not it would be another PR nightmare. You can lose interest but the NFL will not.
Really how bad of a PR nightmare would it be if they said "due to the time that has passed we are not suspending this player for this thing, unless further legal action comes of it".

Seems like a chance to make themselves look rational for once

Yesterday I kinda thought it went a little to far too quick with this story. People were selling off Dez for change on the dollar trying to get out wherever they could. Many thought he was facing a year long suspension etc.

Today, I kinda think the pendulum has swung back the other way a bit too far. Seems the consensus is this story is overblown.

I'm not at all convinced that this story doesn't have some sort of traction. It very likely has a lot more to it than has been released publicly.

Keep in mind that the NFL wasn't the same in 2011 as it is today. This is pre Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson. I have my doubts that Dez or his agent would pay blackmail money for 3-4 years if the video was only moderately damning. Especially in that NFL environment.

-Dez feels betrayed and seems resigned to the fact the video will soon be public.

-Schefter has been working the story since September, yet seems very cautious with his words.

-Blackmail is likely involved, which is why the video is probably very hard to attain. The blackmailer is likely trying to hide their identity from the authorities.

IMO we have no idea how damning this video is for Dez. It may be only enough for an embarrassment and a slap on the wrist. There is reason to think it could be much worse. I think its premature to make a call either way right now.

Not a chance. Women's groups would have a field day with this one.
An irrational group. Perfect. And no, i dont see this massive field day happening like you do. Not on this one. Not close

Couldnt dez just essentially blackmail him back? Since blackmail is illegal and all, just give the police his identity now......or threaten to of course

So if this incident happened four years ago and a video comes out now, does everyone think he should be thrown to the wolves? Let's say he hit a woman multiple times. That is awful, of course. Having said that, Texas statute of limitations on assault and battery is two years (I think, according to some Google link). So he cannot be prosecuted. And the NFL domestic violence policy is about six months old. He should be punished now for something he did fours years ago? If so, at what point does one not get punished? What if Tom Brady beat up some girl he was seeing in 2008 and a video comes out? Should he also get punished now? Curious to hear what people think.
I don't want to go all "lawyer" on you "Leroy" (*cough*!), but one of the primary reasons there are statutes of limitations is that after a given amount of time, witness testimony is deemed unreliable due to the possibility of memory lapse. But if there is a video, outside of the court system, the memory factor is generally moot and all bets are off. The courts might be barred from penalizing him, but the league won't be. Nor should it.
To make sure I understand, is it your contention that there should be no time limit for penalizing a former transgression by any current pro athlete caught on video and then subsequently sold to the highest bidder? 4 years, 10 years, 18 years, no time is too long? If its on video and makes the league look bad, impose punishment. Say Peyton Manning assaulted his girlfriend as a rookie in 1998, the NFL should still drop the hammer on him now if they find the VHS videotape? And invoke the 2014 domestic violence policy? I realize the Manning example is silly, but is there no line to draw in which too much time has passed? (not talking about murder, rape, etc...assuming assault and battery type of stuff)

It seems to me that a lot of people want to crucify Dez because he is Dez. I am not trying to defend what Dez probably did, but more defend the idea that after a certain loooong period of time, maybe someone did something stupid when they were young. Maybe too much time has passed to punish someone for something they did years ago when they were a different, less mature person. Edit to say: I am talking about Dez specifically, but more concerning, a decision like that could affect any random NFL athlete in the future.
I think the answer to your question lays somewhere within the four corners of the collective bargaining agreement. If the league has the negotiated right to "protect the shield" through personal conduct policies, then I think they can do whatever the agreement allows. I am sure they have also reduced to writing exactly which version of the agreement would control in these sorts of situations, but without that in front of me, I am going to have to plead ignorance. Maybe it's a Peyton and Dez rough love tape. That would cover all your angles!
And now, at least, we may know which version of the CBA to look to:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/02/26/judge-doty-finds-nfl-cant-apply-new-conduct-policy-retroactively/

Good news for Dez if push ever comes to shove on his issue.

However bad this is, from a fantasy perspective AD winning his appeal should maybe be solidifying Dez as a buy low right now: http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dg5D6

I know the bleeding hearts on this board won't want to hear it because they'd rather cry Josh Gordon and I told you so but the NFLPA will be fighting hard if the NFL wants to discipline based on a 4 year old tape.

speaking of rational turning a cheek on violence on women because of when it happened is not something i would suggest.

It's not "turning a cheek on violence on women".

It's common sense. It was 4 years ago and nothing came of it legally (assuming nothing comes of it legally)
so if someone assaults a woman four years ago, it doesnt matter and it is common sense to say it doesnt? I lack common sense then and am not afraid to say it in this situation. thats the typical mentality of why people discard domestic abuse in the first place if nothing comes legally it didnt happen.

Umm, no, I didn't say it doesnt matter.

I just said the NFL should not suspend him for it.

This wasn't last week. This was 4 years ago. After that amount of time, and with zero legal action, I think it would be silly to suspend him.

Some people are just so eager to look the other way when it comes to sports stars. 4 years isn't that long ago, and I doubt that Dez has really learned any lesson, and or is a different person. He just has had very efficient crew at cleaning up his messes.
Maybe we should hold up on this conversation until we know if he actually did something???
Agreed.
But I wanna hate.

Would it matter to you if he did? Are you saying suspend him if he is still an idiot, but not suspend if he is an angel now??

No. Which is why he should be punished. Why are some people saying that because it was 4 years ago and past the statute of limitations to be criminally charged, he shouldn't be punished by the NFL?
how do you know it's past the statute when you don't even know what he did?

what if he was selling state secrets?

Assuming this incident is Dez yanking a woman out of a car by her hair and tossing her around:

"Oh, you beat some woman in a parking lot back in 2011 and got away with it? That's cool Dez, no worries, it was in the past - and like we said - you got away with it back then"

Yea, looks really rational.

The thing you people who are clamoring for "that was in the past!" don't seem to give any compassion for is that, yes, in the past, some girl had to go through an utterly horrific moment that she'll remember for the rest of her life. She made a decision not to press charges or push the issue...? maybe because she has kids with the guy and figured the outcome would be better if she didn't come forward... maybe because she has no self-esteem... maybe because she is completely terrified of the guy had she moved forward with charges.

It's not funny, it's not cool, it's not how civilized nations treat their women. If you think this behavior is OK on any level I'm sorry to share this country with people like you.

May I direct you to any New England Patriots thread ?

My concern as a Dez owner is little to none.

2011 incident = meh. I already knew Dez was violent toward women. He had his mother issue's.

No Chargers filed after almost 4 years and NFL cant do much here legally.

This is not a KO clear elevator video and this is not past his prime Rice. Peterson just got reinstated after child abuse.

I in no way condone his actions but the world is filled with worse and this isn't a reality game we play.
