I have to give it up to Dez. I didn't think he'd hold it together. I thought it'd be off-field issues, and he'd never reach the potential. As a principle, I avoid the head cases, so I miss out on guys like this. And his red flags seemed pretty bad to me. And going to the Dallas organization seemed like bad news for a guy with some issues.
It might be exactly the opposite, and Dez may very well be in the best situation to avoid trouble.
In another city, he might wear his welcome out, but I have a tough time seeing Dez get in trouble in Dallas. Yeah, yeah, Dallas cops probably aren't looking to bust Dez, far from it. But it's more than that. I think Dallas fans are probably more protective of Dez than your average bad boy. You just get the feeling Dez has 6 million guardian angels in DFW area. Because Dez doesn't seem like a bad person. They way TO did. It was clear from the moment we all got to know TO that he was an awful little person. I could Texas mommas wanting to look after him. Texas daddies commenting, "He ain't a bad sort, just got a little wild colt in him" :spits-tobacco:
I imagine Dez in a Dallas club, and I can picture people perking up, complete strangers, looking around like Secret Service, taking it all in. Ready to jump in front of a thrown cocktail without hesitation.
Dallas might not be the place for him to become the world's most mature adult, but he's a in a place that will forgive lots of little transgressions.
It's difficult to dislike Dez, he clearly cares more about football than anything else, that's tough for me to dislike.
