Can someone explain why the Cowboys wouldn’t want Dez? Their receiver core is about the equivalent to the University of Alabama.

At the end of the day, it’s a business, and they need him. Just my thoughts, their core is terrible and he still has some gas in the tank.

And i get it's a business, but sometimes things go too far. The absolute sh*tshow it would be if he came back to Dallas would do more harm than good. I think it would be a huge distraction. He tweeted out a "D-hop! Nice!!" tweet tonight. Dallas is the absolute last place he'll end up.

The Cowboys effectively sabotaged him by waiving him when they did (super late). They dropped him at the very last second effectively knowing they were leaving him in a very limited and depleted market. Aside from the media circus sideshow that getting him back would create--I think there would be a fear that Dez would have the motivation and vittreal to get the Cowboys back for how they basically screwed him over.fantasycurse42 said:

You’re WAY overthinking this. If he was any good and didn’t act like a drunk homeless person he would be on a team.

Not really. The Cowboys cut him two weeks before the draft. They never tried to negotiate with him- so it wasn’t like this was a case where things fell apart because they couldn’t work out a deal. The Cowboys were going after Watkins, Maclin, they signed Hurns and Deonte Thompson- they never planned on retaining Dez as they never even asked him to take a pay cut. Instead they waited til the very last second after the market dried up and dumped him. This article goes into it

Keep in mind that I’m not saying Dez is still an elite WR. He’s not. However- he’s still a lot better than a lot of the guys in the league right now. Dez got blamed way too much for the offensive woes of the Cowbiys. Sure he had some drops and such- but nobody seems to want to accept the reality that Dak Prescott’s play has regressed big time the last couple of years. Here is a video showing every incompletion to Dez from last year- and the majority of them are due to poor throws- not Dez. Just watch the Cowboys now- their offense is so inconsistent because Dak is so inconsistent.

Saying that the Cowboys dropped Dez at the very last second, knowing that they were not going to retain him the second they signed Hurns, without ever negotiating with him- solely because they thought he wasn’t good doesn’t make sense. If they knew he wasn’t good and were looking to replace him with guys like Watkins, Maclin or Hurns- why not release him immediately?? There was far more to it than that and they absolutely sabotaged him and his market.
No doubt the Cowboys screwed Dez over with the timing.
Has he not hooked on with another team because his salary demands are too high, or because there's no interest around the league even at the veteran's minimum salary?
I'm really not sure which it is, but those are much different scenarios IMO.

The cowboys left him a position to fail. They released him at a time where the number of potential landing spots for him are limited. Because of this--it's not like teams have to bid each other up for his services. So basically he was left with very few options in regards to potential teams--and he couldn't ask for what he thinks is fair salary. If he plans on coming back next season--why sign for a team last second with zero training camp, minimum pay, risk of getting hurt and ending his career--as playing right now is more likely to do him more harm than good. To learn a new playbook, get integrated on a team..etc--these things take time and chemistry. If he signs for the minimum now--there is no way that he could look productive stats wise. That would hurt him even more. The cowboys basically dumped him off where his choices are 1) sign immediately for cheap in a less than desirable team/situation or 2). Don't play this season--take a year off and hope that you find somebody to sign you next year and pay you closer to what you are worth.

It’s not that simple. You are assuming that Dez is interested in joining just any team. If you were talented and had a robust resume—would you go and work at McDonalds’s? No—you would wait until the job market favored your skill set and aim to shoot higher. The Cowboys left him in a position to where he got to choose between playing in less than desirable conditions for less than desirable money or to wait for next season. The fact that he has chosen to not pursue any of these ventures this season is a far different cry than “well he sucks because he’s not on a team”. You are watering down a very complex issue and it’s not that simple. Colin Kaepernick is absolutely good enough to be a backup qb for NFL teams—the fact that he’s not playing in the NFL does not automatically mean that he’s “no good”. You really think that there are no wr’s in the NFL that are currently employed that are worse than Dez Bryant is right now? He’s absolutely good enough to be in the NFL even at his advanced age. We’ll just agree to disagree.

Go watch the hard knocks with his visit to Cleveland and you’ll start to get the picture.
Is he more talented than some recievers currently on a team, when he has the ball in his hands? Sure.
But those guys can actually learn a playbook and most importantly, don’t act like a crazy madman.
We can go back and fourth all day and you can continue your thesis but if he were worth the trouble, no doubt he would be on a team.

I just think he doesn’t realize the Saints play in Dallas the week after thanksgiving
On a Dez front, I think the chances they sign him might be around 50%. And the chances of him making an impact if signed, even less. And the chances of him ever cracking a fantasy starting line up, even smaller than that. Don't even think he's a speculative add at this point in 16 roster leagues.

This would (generally) be my sense as well. People claim that Dez is "better than [insert rostered WR on Team X here]". Setting aside salary expectations and "personality" that might be the case but NFL teams can't just set those things aside. To me, the market speaks and so far it's saying that he's an unemployed FA in November.

I dunno, I have no idea what he has left but I feel like watching peterman throw pick sixes while kaepernick remains unemployed should be a reminder that the NFL is a very limited employment ecosystem, and that the few teams with a significant enough need to pay someone’s price (especially once they have demonstrated starter ability and aren’t just looking to catch on for the minimum) not doing so may only mean as few as 3-4 people decided (justifiably or not) a guy isn’t “worth the headache.” Your conclusion may ultimately be correct, but any free market type thinking feels like a flawed heuristic.
Conversely, if the saints do sign him, I would be inclined to read that as a very competent organization deciding he is indeed worth the (admittedly significant in Dez’s case) headache, so my guesstimate of what he has left would ratchet up significantly.

If true, fantastic situation for Dez. Like I said in the Week 10 Waivers thread, Saints haven't had a tall jump ball guy since Brandon Coleman. Cam Meredith has been sort of a bust for the Saints and Tre'Quan Smith is still a rookie. We know Brees can make multiple receivers viable and Dez gets to flash on a playoff-bound team... which he will try and parlay to a big contract next year.

I hope he signs with the Saints, all the fantasy nuts will go out and waste waiver claims on him. He isnt learning a new system and playing well enough to have an impact after being out of the game all season. New players have a hard time going to teams as it is when they have been playing all season.

Dez is still talented and gets to play with a great QB on a great offense. I love this for Dez owners. A motivated Dez, playing with Brees and getting a CB2...yes, please.

Dez Bryant, WR, FA. Over the past three seasons in Dallas, Bryant averaged 53.6 receiving yards per game and scored 17 TDs in 38 games. Last year, he played a full season and had zero 100-yard games. Having just turned 30, Bryant isn't necessarily completely washed up -- and if he signs with the Saints, fantasy owners will likely be intrigued -- but he likely won't be ready to play meaningful snaps for at least a couple weeks. At most, you're looking at getting something from him during the fantasy playoffs, when the Saints play at the Bucs, at the Panthers and at home vs. Steelers. Those aren't bad matchups, especially in Week 14 in Tampa, but Bryant feels like a long shot to contribute much. (UPDATE: Bryant is reportedly signing with the Saints. That makes him a fine waiver pickup and he definitely has upside moving forward in the high-powered New Orleans passing attack.)

There was a fake "ESPN Radio" Twitter account that put out a "Dez Bryant signed with NO!" tweet about two hours ago. It caught one of the guys on SaintsReport off guard and I can understand if an odd media outlet here and there ran with it, too.
