Official Dez Bryant (1 Viewer)

Ok I read that article, something doesn't pass the smell test here, so he turns down a 3 year $21 million deal but he'd take a $5 or $6 million deal for one year? I'm calling BS, he is just trying to pick his team, and that may not work. Good luck!

then why did he turn down the offer in Baltimore? I thought he wanted more money
He wanted more money down the line. It's a common ploy in NBA and gaining stream in the MLB; take a short term deal to break out when you know teams will have more money/salary cap explosion the next year. Why do 3/21 when you can do 1/5 in a prime passing spot, then 3/39-4/48?

yeah but in his case you don't do it when you have declining skills and are getting old. It isn't going to work. He is delusional

Terrell Pryor did it.  Apparently they went to the same school of duuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhh  doyyyyyyyyyyyyy  duhhhhhhhhhhh

Oh I'm not endorsing it at all, I'm just saying he thinks it will work. Technically there are still teams that would fit his situation IN the East (Giants, Skins). Giants are going to wait until the last second so he has to take a REALLY low salary, and 'Skins... legit don't know their issue. No way Dez is worse than Pryor last year.

NFL.com's Tom Pelissero reports it's "unlikely" the 49ers sign free agent Dez Bryant.

Bryant posted (and then deleted) on social media that he would like to play in San Francisco. Although Pelissero reports there's a mutual respect between Bryant and 49ers GM John Lynch, the Niners "love their receiver group as it is." Now on the market for well over a month, Bryant is going to have to lower his money demands.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, barring a "major injury," free agent Dez Bryant will likely wait until training camp to sign.

Per Rapoport, Bryant has received numerous phone calls from interested teams but is waiting for the right fit. He wants to play for a winner and is hoping to rebuild his value by signing a one-year prove-it deal, something the Ravens weren't willing to offer earlier this offseason. The 29-year-old was let go by Dallas in mid-April.

ESPN's Mike Reiss doesn't expect the Patriots to sign free agent Dez Bryant.

With Julian Edelman suspended, the Patriots are down their top receiver for the first month of the season, but are expected to stay in-house to fill Edelman's targets. Bryant's free-agent market has been dead since turning down a multi-year offer from Baltimore in April. He's waiting for training camp to sign with a team.

Wow. Not at all surprising tho. Dez is just a big child playing the victim. We’ve seen this all before. I usually don’t wish bad things for people but I hope no one signs him.

Agreed. You don't elevate yourself by treading upon others. That said, I think there's very little chance he isn't playing somewhere this year.
You’re probably right but that team will look foolish to take a shot on a 29 year old grade schooler who hasn’t had a good season in 4 years.

Here is Lee’s response.  Which I think makes Dez look even worse. Also the interview that prompted this, from Stephen Jones who I think is kind of dumb and I don’t really like, references both Dez and Witten essentially said great players want the ball. Dez looks like a real tool right now.

Who's advising this guy?  Slow receiver with deteriorating skills looking for a job decides to remind prospective owners that he's also still a distraction.  Bye bye Dez.

Still better than a lot of others and he's looking for a 1-year deal for peanuts.

I mean, I'd rather take a chance on him than some of the other #3-#4 WRs in the league.

You would because you just dismiss his bad behavior that is a very real detriment to a team. This guy just reminded any GMs thinking about signing him that while his skills have been progressively diminishing that his jerk factor is still highly tuned and sky high.  Not a great way to win yourself a job.

I still think he will end up on a team more the start of the season, but his mouth continues to do himself no favors.  Remember that this a guy who, during his prime, the Cowboys basically had to hire a guy to be his babysitter.

I'd take a chance just because... he can't do those things on his new team. He literally has to be a boy scout or his NFL career is done. He can't carry any baggage (real or imagined) over because his next contract is a prove it deal. Fail the prove-it deal and he'll be auditioning for NFL Network sideline reporter.

Also, you think NFL GMs care about past bad behavior in general? Most only care if a) it's chronic/affects the player long term. Half the crap that goes on if they know they player is getting treatment/don't do that crap with their new team they'll turn a blind eye. Look, I have no great love of Dez Bryant. He's somewhat of a malcontent and generally not one of my "favorite players". However I'm not going to dismiss all his comments because he's an jerk, and I'm not going to say he's a terrible WR when Dak regressed big time due to O-Line difficulties and his own issues.

Let's bottom line this: Can he be a #1 WR anymore. Nah. A #2 WR? Probably... he's got the size but he needs to improve his body positioning/hands. He has to redo his game to cover up for the loss of some of his athleticism. A #3 WR? He's probably be a plus #3 WR as long as the money works... wait, he's looking to play for really cheap and he can't afford to slip up? LOL.

I have a feeling that mr. Bryant is going to have the same uncelebrated exit from the sport as Barry Bonds did in baseball.  I have no doubt that Des is better than some WR3's in the league, but teams don't want that distraction for an average player. It's one thing when your Elite. But guys with Bryant's current talent are a dime a dozen and you can sign one that's not going to be a distraction.

His recent quotes and trashing of former teammates only hurt his cause. If you are an elite player, teams will put up with tough talk. If you are in irreversible decline, as Dez is, not so much.

Dez to pats? if they reigned in randy moss for a couple of seasons they should be able to reign in dez... they'd be unstoppable in red zone (they pretty much are already)

I watched the "All or Nothing" Cowboys season since it's on Prime Video now.

(Originally I just wanted to see them lose to GB but it's a good background show for working out.)

Boy is that ever a thorough video presentation on why not to sign Dez.

Although I actually side with him vs. Dallas in their dumping him so ungraciously.

Again for what you are paying him and what he is joining for (#2 or #3 receiver) it's a steal. If you;re telling me he's declined to the point he can't shine as a #3 WR...  then we are watching different tape. Look at the guys who are #3 WRs on teams right now in the league (X/Y guys, not slot) and I think he's better than 75% of them and would make a fraction of their contract.

I know what you mean and agree in theory, but say he is a #3 receiver, the questions then become 1) - is he willing to accept a backseat to two other WRs? 2) what kind of a distraction will he be in the locker room? It's a matter of weighing the pros and cons, and I am someone who just doesn't think his upside at this point is enough to wash out the cons.
