I keep thinking his putting is not going to hold up, but putting doesn’t matter when all you have to do is drop it in.Gossage is making me a believer. Can he hold on?
Hell yea. Thanks for the report. We had an amazing time in Oregon. @urbanhack and @General Malaise can't thank you enough for the info. Our schedule was pretty tight, I didn't think it would work to squeeze in a FBG round.
I played Dabney, Pier Park, and Blue Lake. Liked Dabney a lot, it was super busy when we were there though, so I played it out of order to avoid long waits. It was my least favorite of the three, but that's certainly no knock. It seems like the kind of course that would grow on you as you get comfortable with the lines. There were a few holes where I couldn't really see the line on the tee, but got a better view once I got the basket and realized I threw the wrong shot.
Pier Park is just absurd. I know a lot of work has gone into it, and I don't mean to belittle that, but if there is a piece of property more naturally suited to disc golf on the planet I'd love to see it. Just amazing. I was giggling the entire round, just couldn't keep it in. Holes 3-15 are so picturesque it doesn't even look real at times. I played really well, shot two under with no bogies, and no long putts for parr. Missed quite a few C1 putts for birdie. I would have played it three times in a row if I was flying solo.
Blue Lake was my favorite though. It's not quite the pro layout but still pretty tough. Incredible course and I played the round of my life, which probably influenced my opinion of the place. I took a few mulligans so wouldn't feel right to mention my "score", but I had read how gnarly the rough is, so I just played it safe and it paid off. I think the course is right in the sweet-spot for me in terms of being challenging but not overwhelming. I've not played many courses outside of KC, but I think it'll be a long time before I find a course I like more than Blue Lake.
nah, I’ve been playing for a long time, had a really good/fortunate round, and it’s setup well for forehand players. I’ve also been playing like a madman the last six months, it’s really taken over and it pretty much my only hobby anymore. The limited bag and playing conservative because I didn’t want to look for discs really helped my game too. If it makes you feel better I was around 15 over after ~9 at Dabney when I stopped counting, there’s a reason I didn’t mention anything about my score there.2 under at Pier Park just solidifies my reality that I ****ing suck at this hobby.

That’s really great shooting all the way around for the first time seeing the courses, dude.We were at Pier Thursday morning.
At Bue Lake I had six birdies on the front; 1 (insane that the pros play it as a par 3), 4-7, and 9. Only took a mulligan on 9, but in my defense I completely misread the hole from the tee. I didn’t realize the RHBH off the tee is impossible to miss, so I picked up my first shot and walked back to the tee and started over. I went back and rewatched the Jomez coverage of the Portland Open that night, wish I had done it the night before as I would’ve remembered how easy the tee shot is because Sexton did a whole bit about it.
The back was way more of a challenge, especially for a forehand dominant player like me. Only had one birdie, 14, the shorter par 5. Took a double on 17 (F that hole) and a bogey on 18, par everywhere else. Had a couple mulligans that would have turned two of those pars into bogies most likely. Was most proud of my tee shot on five, got completely around the corner and was able to give it a run for eagle from about 80 feet. I think I got a nice roll on my tee shot but I’ll take it.
Had a great time last weekend hosting my sons college disc golf team as they were playing a tournament in town.
Cooked prodigious amounts of food for dinner Friday and Saturday night and enjoyed watching 4 kids starved for home cooking chow down.
It’s really cool to see how far DG has come with top 25 rankings for teams and individuals. I had no idea they did this until my son told me he’s ranked in the top 20(humble brag).

I love stories like this. I’ve met quite a few people who have used disc golf as a means to overcome addiction, cope with anxiety, and achieve meaningful weight loss. Inspiring stuff.
Funny, I ordered a Rive Grand Grace this morning. You guys been buying any new plastic? There is so much good stuff coming out now, it's hard to keep track! I'm constantly moving away from Innova and Discraft and more towards Discmania, DD, Latitude 64, Kastaplast and Thought Space (i love their stamps!).
My top adds this year:
I just got the new prototype Supreme Judge. This feels so good...I might be switching to this as my main putter in 2023.
- Orbit Tattar Grace - I now have 5 Graces...will probably keep 2 in the bag
- Mind Bender - This is so straight and solid.
- Lucid / FusionX Vandal - My go-to fairway driver.
- Kastaplast Grym.
Goals for 2023:
- 5 tournament wins
- 950 rating
- 1000 tournament rated round
- 80% Cir1X putting.
- Play at least once a month with @General Malaise
- Make it to the finals in my local league.
HFS... Innova made a disc called the Jay? I must get one.

My brother in law got me a max weight Champion Jay for Christmas. I used it in a two-disc round at Winter Fun League yesterday (my 2nd disc was a putter). I had a good round and the disc was kinda great, especially for champ plastic right out of the box.
I'm going to try to grab a light one in the brightest pink I can find.
P.S. what's the best place to buy discs online nowadays?
got this for xmas...
no idea what to do next. the course I drive by never has anyone on it.
any AZ east valley disk golfers? Do I have to smoke pot as I play?
