Yup. Pretty clearly a blown knee. Probably more than 1 ligament. Obvious season ender.
You don't have to rub it in. I'm kidding, I know you a Jet fan, not fun to watch him injured. Bad night for the Phins.
No Ill will towards Keller. He played hard for the Jets and kept his mouth shut for the most part. He's a slightly above average TE, but that's about it. He had some good games, but often disappeared for long stretches. (sometimes multiple games in a row). Part of it was Sanchez for sure, but Keller just wasn't ever super-consistent. NY made the right move not offering him a big deal (even before this injury). He's not a game changer.

There's also no point in rooting against Miami this year. The Jets are going to be irrelevant anyway. Sucks to see a decent guy get hurt, especially when he was betting on himself with a 1 year contract.

Could be career over or at least 2013 and some of 2014 the way that looked. 2015 might be a better plan for Keller. Feel bad for him, was a trip on the radio interviews. Fans down here in Miami gonna get a big wake up call with the injury and the hole left behind. Not much proven behind Keller, might need to trade one of these lesser DEs who could still be good for other teams, maybe trade for a TE.

Does the Keller injury mean Egnew makes the team? Ugh.
Yep.

Egnew, Clay, and Sims :yuck:
Clay is the H-Back/Fullback for a good chunk of the offense, they are going to have to roll him back to TE. Sims has hands worse than Anthony Fasano and Egnew is gonna get somebody killed missing his assignments.
Sims has looked better than expected. Thought he was just a big body, but he shed weight has shown athleticism. Like his future prospects.

Going to the game tonight, will report back with "eyeball" observations and then likely a summary/projection for the team before the season starts. I will be looking for Wallace and his ability to simply "get open" even if Tannehill can't hit him yet.

OL: My feelings on this are well documented in this thread, would like to see the Tackles hold their blocks in pp.

DL: How good are they really because on paper they are stacked.

-Brent Grimes, easily the best camp of any Phin.

Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas.

I'll write about what I saw and the stadium experience. First of all we had to park way out in the sticks where the cops were all parked or their cars, $25 for the honor. We did get free tickets for the nightclub section of the stadium, we didn't know exactly where we were sitting, turned out we had the couches(yes couches) in front of the folks in the club section of the end zone in front of this circus. It was nice and comfy but boy did it feel pretty pompous sitting on couches in front of the entire 2nd level of fans behind us. I won these thru my office, will get some more I'm sure but I kinda wish we were in normal seats.

Let's talk Phins, very nice opening drive last night that went on for almost 9 minutes but ended in a FG. Gibson dropped an easy pass, Mike Wallace caught a tough one in traffic, Hartline was reliable with hands, Lamar Mller looked good on a long run.

1st and 10 on the Miami 5, hand off Miller and he got gobbled up trying to run to the left side behind LT-Martin, Loss of 5 yards.

After a TB penalty set up 1st and goal at the 4...Miller runs off RT and gets nothing, same again on the next down, Miami ends up settling for 3 points after they ran 8 plays inside the TB 10 yard line getting bailed out with a nice penalty in there as well and yet we could not score. Would have been nice to have a big TE with hands down there like Keller to spot in the end zone.

Miami defense was great but they muffed a punt return, set up a very short field and the Bucs ended up cashing in and also helped by Brent Grimes(that was not good) with a PI on Vjax...if Grimes is as good as he has seemed, just means VJax is even a little better than I might have thought. 1st and goal at the 1, TB cashed in on the 2nd plunge.

Another costly turnover on punt returns(not like Thigpen, 1st one not his fault), TB cashes in for 3, 10-3 Bucs.

1st down on Miami's next drive, penalty to start the offense, sack later on THill to end the drive, then miami holds the Bucs to 3 and out. next drive Miami makes a few plays, they kick a FG, we are now down 10-6. On that drive, Miami had an illegal formation call on LT-J.Martin but it was declined.

Vernon makes a key sack to get Miami off the field 3 and out next drive. Vernon and Odrick had very nice evenings, the miami DL is sick, not all time history sick but in Miami Dolphins history this is one of the best. I was sitting int he end zone and could see the blocks open up, they just didn't give much the whole night. Freeman was 6/16 for 59, Glennon was even worse, they won the game again on a late turnover.

Charles Clay: He was featured in the passing games at times but I don't think he can pick up the slack left by Keller. No Miami TE stood out for much last night. Miami is gonna have problems because of this.

We had a great time in the Liv section of Miami Stadium but the Phins have a lot of work to do before they can become a good team, mostly on offense. Any questions, fire away.

How did Miller look compared to Thomas? What's the breakdown of carries going to be?
Good question. Daniel Thomas has not changed but I also did not know he could catch the ball, he looked good doing that so I'm not sure he can't be used in that style at times.

I think Miller will get a crack, then Thomas maybe as early as the 2nd drive. Whichever one gets hot is going to get more carries. I have never seen Thomas get "Hot" in his short career here. Miller has more speed, a lot of it but he is not a contact guy it would seem. Really does not look for contact.

http://deadspin.com/why-your-team-sucks-2013-miami-dolphins-1214426912

Your team: Miami Dolphins

Your 2012 record: 7-9. Wow, they won seven games? That's actually kind of impressive.

Your coach: Joe Philbin, who looks like a lobbyist for the corn industry. Your offensive coordinator is Mike Sherman. If your passing game is clicking, Mike Sherman will run. If your running game is clicking, Mike Sherman will pass. And if both are clicking, Mike Sherman will elect to punt. Keeps the defense on their toes. I can't imagine how much collective sleep Dolphins players get in meetings whenever Sherman and Philbin take the mic.

Please note that the Dolphins have changed their uniforms this season. They now look like a team from a videogame that forgot to secure licensing rights from NFL Properties. It's South Florida versus Boston in the Big Game, only on Sega Pro Football!

Your quarterback: Ryan Tannehill, who takes over the BRO I'D CRUSH HIS WIFE BRO mantle now that Brodie Croyle is out of football. Andrew Luck and RG3 were both historically great rookie quarterbacks. And then there's Tannehill, the kind of quarterback who gets drafted in the first round because a team needs a quarterback and reaches for one because they're terrified of not finding one in the second or third round. So... YAY.

Tannehill finished last season on a "hot streak," if you count throwing four touchdowns against Buffalo and Jacksonville a hot streak (I do not). He also lost his best running back and his left tackle this offseason. And his new tight end (who kinda sucked) is out for the year. WHAT A BRIGHT FUTURE THIS YOUNG MAN HAS.

Your fantasy player everyone will hate: Mike Wallace. The Dolphins handed Wallace $30 million in guarantees this offseason. That's $30 million for a dude who couldn't even break 1,000 yards last season. He tanked BEFORE he got his contract, DeSean Jackson-style. Not since Albert Haynesworth has the entire world seen a free agent bust coming from so far away. I expect Wallace to order a pizza on the field by Week 4.

Why your team sucks: $146 million. That's how much the Dolphins spent collectively this offseason on free agent contracts. And yet, does anything about this team strike fear in your heart? At least when the Eagles splurged for Jason Babin and Nnamdi a couple years back, they gave off the illusion of vast improvement. Never has one team spent so much to remain so thoroughly underwhelming.

Here are the players that are costing Miami all that money: Wallace (sucks), WR Brandon Gibson (a Rams castoff, sucks), CB Brent Grimes (coming off a torn Achilles), Keller (already done for the year), WR Brian Hartline (poor man's Brandon Stokely who is himself a poor man's Wes Welker), LB Dannell Ellerbe (proto-typical Super Bowl participant free agent cashing in), SS Chris Clemons, and backup QB Matt Moore (TRIPLE sucks). That's what $146 million bought you, Dolphins fans. Add up those seven players and you roughly 1/12th the physical ability of LeBron James. That's a hefty price to pay to get skull####ed by New England for the next four years.

Also on the football front, the Dolphins traded up just so they could play Dion Jordan out of position, and their running back platoon consists of Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas, and something called Mike Gillislee. They're gonna need a few more donkey punches from Richie Incognito to gain any kind of positive yardage on the ground.

Why your team doesn't suck: Oh my God, the Jets and Bills are ####### disasters. Compared to them, the Dolphins look like the Yankees. Sometimes, it's nice to know you can't possibly be the worst. You can be bad, but at least Jeff Tuel won't be deployed.

The 12 worst Dolphins ever:

RELATED

1) Nick Saban. The Dolphins head coaching history post-Jimmy looks like face-eating incident on an I-95 offramp. So it's saying a lot that Saban represents rock bottom for that group. Makes you wonder how much bribe money Alabama countered with forMrs. Saban.

2) Dan Marino (aborted GM version)

3) Cleo Lemon. Like Babe Laufenberg, poor Cleo has the perfect name for an incompetent QB. He makes a perfect go-to reference for any joke about ####ty passers.

4) Ray Finkle

5) Jeff Ireland. He's still there! How the hell is that possible?! Who did his mom blow for money to help him keep his job?

6) Wallace (just a hunch)

7) Mercury Morris, because #### him.

8) Jake Grove

9) John Beck

10) John Avery

11) Yatil Green. Pretty sure Jimmy did all his drafting from his boat.

12) Sammie Smith

Stephen Ross announced that he will be donating $200,000,000.00 or $200m to my alumni, The University of Miami. Thank You Mr. Ross, I just might splurge for a season ticket now.

Does anyone not think the Dolphins will be the biggest crash and burn team of the season?

Major OL downgrade. Lateral movement on the front 7. 1st round draft pick still isn't healthy. 2nd year QB. Question mark at RB. No dependable TE. All that money spent for what?

If you want to read thru the thread, I covered this way back in Mar/Apr/May, agree that Miami still stinks, Wallace will be a bust, OL is a mystery, no stud RB, shaky QB, TE gone for the season, let me show you what $143M buys you these days.

Where you might be off is the defense, front 7 is one of the best in football right now, brent Grimes is back from his injury and tore up camp, easily the best pure athlete Miami has had on the team since Brandon Marshall, those are the local beat writers that watch practice everyday.

Yeah we're gonna suck, it's just that having a solid defense is gonna make it worse.

I'll bite...

Major OL downgrade - Maybe. Jake Long was not the player that his reputation would have led you to believe, plus he could not stay on the field. Aside from replacing him with Jonathan Martin, and replacing Martin with Clabo on the right, the line is basically the same. Pouncey is a stud. Incognito made the pro bowl. Jerry is average. Martin we dont really know for sure. He is in his second year. Clabo is a solid RT. I dont know that we can call this a "major downgrade".

Lateral movement on the front 7 - Dont know what you mean. Our front 7 is really good though, and very deep.

1st round pick not healthy - He is supposed to play a role on Sunday. We'll see. Dude is a freakish athlete and if he isnt healthy, he does not seem far off. While he learns and gets healthier, Wake and Vernon are darn good on the ends anyway.

2nd Year QB - OK...why is this bad? Should the Colts, Skins, and Seahawks be scared too?

Questions at RB - Those questions will soon be answered. If Lamar is not as good as they think he is, then yes, there is a problem. We dont know that though.

No dependable TE - check

All the money spent for what? - We got a burner at WR that will hopefully open up the offense for everyone else. We got a lot younger at LB. We locked up a stud safety. We paid a 1,000 yard WR. Maybe overpaid a bit, yet to be seen. But he did have a nice year with a rookie QB and no other viable offensive threats. How should we have spent it differently? We had the cap space, so we used it. We could have overpaid for Jake Long, but then that would have been one of your bullet points on how the Dolphins messed up the offseason.

As a long suffering fan of this team, I am cautiously optimistic about their future right now. Young QB and skill position players on offense. Young DEs, LBs, and Safeties on the defense, many with stud potential. They may not win the East this season, but I feel like we finally have ourselves headed in the right direction. I know it all really hinges on #17. Since #13 retired, there hasnt been a signal caller that I was more optimistic about though.

I asked this in another team thread, gonna ask it in any teams that grab my interest at all...

So where are Dolphins fans at with this team?

extremely optimistic

cautiously optimistic

unsure

concerned but keeping positive

very concerned

loading the lifeboats

We were at the lifeboat level when we hit 1-15.

Been very concerned but trying to keep positive on the lifeboats for a decade. Currently, I am somewhere between unsure and cautiously optimistic.

The laugh is on me or us in South Florida...Stephen Ross is donating $200M NOT to the Univ of Miami but the University of MICHIGAN!!!

#### him for asking tax payers to shell out hundreds of millions of this stadium and then he donates $200M of his own money to them. I know he went to school there but he caters to Gator fans, Noles fans, he might take notice he lives or the team resides in MIAMI.

Really excited for the Cleveland game. Think it's a week 1 game that will immediately show up if this team is heading for 9-7 in playoff contention or another 7-9.

We either need an in season thread or title change...I think we should keep this one going, lot of gems and off season thoughts.

We got a tough stretch coming but Atlanta is banged up and I like our chances next week. Grimes against his old team, new team is 2-0 in the home opener, not sure the last time Miami has started off 2-0, not sure the last time they won 2 in a row on the road to open the season.

Would like to listen to the local radio shows right now but also want to watch the late games.

Very happy with yesterday's game and the growth the Tannehill is showing and the offense as a whole. The O-Line is still a concern, Indy isn't a very good pass rush and they still put a lot of pressure on Tannehill. But at least they could move the ball on the ground a little and they showed some creativity getting the ball to Wallace on that bubble screen. Defense needs to wrap up and finish tackles, they should have had a few more sacks.

So Phins Phans:

- How do you feel about Tannehill breaking out as a FF quality starter soon?

- How do you see Clay doing, does he keep this up or does he return to form? It seems to make a lot of sense to me with where they were going with Keller.

Grades after 2 weeks...

QB: I give Tannehill a "B" for now. He went missing at times in the Cleveland game but the Browns hung in there with the SB Champs yesterday, they might be better than some think so winning 23-10 up there might look better in week 16 than in week 1.

WR/TE: Hartline gets an "A", Wallace a "C", Gibson a "C+" in the WR3 role, and Charles Clay gets a big fat "A" from me considering how he got thrown into the starting spot and is making plays, making defenses pay for not even covering him.

RB: "D" for me, I know Miller scored this past week, but then you see Thomas running butt first into the line on a 3rd and short, that's just stupid and it's not the way to fight for tough yards. He is a joke. Miami needs a better RB, they are going to have to go back into the draft or find something via free agency. The hole left by Reggie Bush is still huge.

OLine: "D" they really look bad and even though we are 2-0, no thanks to our LT and RT. Clabo and Martin suck, they gotta be one of the worst duos going at Tackle right now. Clabo is not cut out for this offense, he misses assignments, and Daniel Thomas made a horrific pass block yesterday to compound things. Inside of the OL was better yesterday but they still cannot be relied on to pick up a 3rd/1 as Miami was passing in those situations, yikes.

DL: "B"...I want to give them the A but they didn't get a great pass rush at times yesterday. Not sure what the problem was but they better be bringing heat on the Falcons or it is gonna be a long day.

LB: Wheeler gets an "A", Ellerbee "C" and Misi "B" but he left the game yesterday. Wheeler has a chance to make the Pro bowl on this team, no one can touch him accounting for all the beef on the DL, he roams free a lot.

DB/Safety: Grimes gets an "A", he brings it every play, Nolan Carroll was great yesterday, this guy is coming on strong when we really need him the most. He was batting down passes and disrupting patterns, beautiful. Jones gets a "B" at Safety, Clemons a "C", he gets beat a lot at the TE/WR slot spots. We have Patterson, Davis, and one other rookie all nursing injuries, sooner we get those guys back the better for the secondary and facing teams that have dynamic weapons not just at the WR1 spot but also WR2/3, TE1, RB1, some teams have multiple weapons. I would say Cleveland was limited because no Josh Gordon, Indy has a 35/36 yr old WR1, Fleener cut us up as did Cameron the week before. We need to get it together back there.

Coaching: "C+" I like some of what Philbin/Sherman does but other times not so much. Some of the play calling at times is pretty basic.

-Jeff Ireland...if Miami wins then he stays...ugh.

Giddy about 2-0. Especially 2 road wins. Beating the Colts in Indy is not something that Dolphns teams of the past would have done. We would have found a way to lose that game in the end. In this one we got the pick in the end zone, and then were able to grind out the first down to end the game and not give Luck another shot at breaking our hearts. Big win for the overall confidence of the team, and the fan base.

That said, I agree that the OL is a big weakness, and that the missed tackles on Luck are a concern. What the heck was Dion Jordan doing? He could have mauled Luck, and instead he threw a weak shoulder at him, and let him scramble for a huge first down. Wake had him in his mitts once in the 4th quarter as well, and let him escape. That said, I have no concerns about Cam Wake. Dude is a monster.

I think Tannehill looked excellent, as did Wallace, Clay and Hartline. Lamar Miller showed the promise that we all know he has, and even D.Thomas ran well.

From a fantasy perspective, I would buy Lamar Miller right now before the price goes up. I dont think we have seen the real Lamar Miller yet - just a couple of glimpses. I also like Clay as a WW pickup TE2. He has had 2 very good games, and with defenses focused in on stopping Wallace, both he and Hartline should see plenty of space in the short/intermediate middle of the field. If we can get that running game going, this offense has the potential to be pretty good!

Let me know when you want me to say I'm wrong. I can wait if you wish to wait a few weeks. Dolphins pulled out a win against a very tough opponent today. Grats!

I'm still not celebrating yet. These are all the same kind of close games that the Dolphins used to lose. Always decided by a handful of plays that could go either way. We've been so unlucky with those in the past, that I guess we were bound to finally be on the right side of a few of these. I'll be more optimistic if we actually dominate an opponent or if we beat the saints in NO. Until then I feel like as far as talent and execution we're still about a .500 team.

Of course, I hope I'm wrong about all this and we go 16-0. But I think there's still a lot of improvement that needs to happen. The only thing I feel good about is that Tannehill may be much better than I thought.

A handful of plays and we are probably 1-2 right now.
And the Patriots are the same except their close wins are against the Jets and Bills...dare I say if Sanchez had played they would have lost to the Jets. Not saying we are a super bowl contender yet, but I think we are in the playoff hunt at least. Excited about the game this week, even if we lose if the offense can score with New Orleans that will be a good sign.

itst he NFL, the margin between winning and losing is small.

Look at SD, could easily be 3-0 or 0-3.

Congrats to you guys on a good start, now throw the damn ball to mike wallace, please!

Week 4- @NO...25% chance or less we win this game, not impossible but hard without Wake IMO.

Week 5- Baltimore...for me this is gonna be a nice measuring stick. They should beat Baltimore with the Ravens still finding themselves. 55-60% win.

Bye week after

Week 7-Buffalo...see with the bye week between, Miami won't be on the road for almost a month after Sept 30th game. 60% however Buff is not bad, heat might do them in on this one as it usually does, still sticky in Oct(1:00) in Miami.

Week 8- @New England...this will be tough after the pats get their identity despite winning everything anyways. 40% chance of a win here.

3-0 right now, would like to see them make it to 5-2, then they have a short week and the Bengals on Halloween, I'll be there for that one. You don't want to start counting up wins because it's dangerous, one week at a time, teams that appear easy right now might change in a month or two, vice versa for teams you think will be tough.

Pumped for the game tonight. Haven't been this excited for a match since week 17 a few years ago when we beat the Jets to sneak into the playoffs.

Ryan Tannehill in primetime with the new aqua.

Agreed - amped up for tonight's game.

Over the weekend got tickets for the Bills game in MIA on 10/20 and then in NY for the Jets on 12/1.

GO DOLPHINS !!!
