***Official*** Dwayne Washington, RB, DET (1 Viewer)

Would you drop powell for him?  I got forte
I would want to find something else to drop.  The odds of Forte holding up to, or maintaining, this insane workload seem rather small to me.  Either Forte is going to break down, or they will start splitting up some of this work.  Either way, I expect Powell to have decent value at some point this season.  I would think he is one of the better handcuff type backs to have rostered right now.
Agree, Forte's workload is unsustainable and it strikes me as odd that Powell has not been given very much opportunity. Still, I am holding Powell (not a Forte owner) and contemplating dropping either Sproles or Dwayne Allen instead.

And people are missing that he said non-PPR and shallow rosters.
Yep. Catches do nothing for me. First non-PPR league i've done in years and i really don't care for that aspect at all. Shallow rosters are annoying too. I want to load up on all the lottery tickets and can't.

Oh ok.  Missed that.  I also have short benches and hate it

For the second week in a row it appears that the guys in my league are asleep at the wheel. Cut Paul Perkins for Washington......this morning......AFTER waivers had run. The Abdullah owner just placed him on IR minutes ago....guess he thought Washington might have slipped through.....

Thanks to those in this thread with all the great info! This is why I love the Shark Pool.
Same boat. Works every time (using this forum as intended).

I did miss that part, or it just didn't register with me.....regardless, I was commenting on his focus that Riddick will be the starter. I don't see that as sustainable even if Riddick does start this week. Tea leaves say otherwise. Exactly like Johnson last year. I didn't hesitate to add Johnson to my team last year and it led to another title. Hoping for similar results.

grr  I dropped DGB which was probably kinda lame ..

Now all this positive vibe has me thinking its already a mistake for sure .

Im just saying Im almost certain one of the other 11 teams really shoulda rostered this guy..

I tell ya what though   I luv them Waldman clips   Pile Mover w/ a 5th gear..

I'm contemplating pulling the trigger, but I would have to drop the other Washington (OAK) to do it.

I think you guys are jumping the gun. The Lions really like Riddick and he will lead that backfield in touches, leaving

Washington with scraps.

I love OAK Washington but he's competing vs. Murray, Richard and Olawale for touches in that backfield. DET Washington has a clearer path to more/better opportunity. The fact that he gets GL touches is big game.

Also @need2know you should 100% drop your other DST.

As mentioned earlier, I am guessing that you will struggle to find anyone who has watched Riddick over the last few years who thinks he could take on much more work.  The Lion's do love him, but they love him in the role he already fills.  He has a specific skill set, and they use it quite well, but he is not a true #1 RB.

I may wind up being wrong, but as a Lion's homer, I feel 100% confident saying that there is no way Riddick becomes a 12 - 15 carry a game back.  That work will go elsewhere, whether it's Washington, or someone else, we will see.  What we do know is that Washington has passed all of the other options on the depth chart so far.

This is getting silly now.
I don't consider any of those as must starts. White is playing in a dumpster fire. Rogers is now back behind Wheaton and Rawls is a injured and doesn't do anything in the passing game. I am personally waiting a week before playing DW but I wouldn't fault anyone for playing him with those choices.

would you guys start him over Kevin White, Eli Rogers and Rawls this week in PPR? I think I am going to.
I would start him over Rawls and While since the SEA and CHI offenses are looking pretty anemic right now. Maybe not over Rogers in a PPR, this PIT PHILLY game could be back and forth, or a complete blow out for the Steelers. Either way Rogers should get plenty of run.  I am only staring Washington because he is my only RB who is in line for touches besides CJA. But his ceiling is much higher than Rogers. So it wouldn't be a terrible move.

One big run and he could make your day. (you could say that about any player ever..I know)

Done

As said, Riddick is simply not an every-down back. That doesn't automatically mean the "big-back" will have value in Detroit's offense (Joique Bell, anyone?) but he will definitely get more than scraps.

As for DeAndre, I drafted him as Murray's handcuff, but to paraphrase the old football cliche, if you have more than one handcuff you have no handcuffs. Even if Latavius went down, it's by no means clear he'd have any value. When you pile uncertainty upon uncertainty, I don't see how he's worth rostering. It's like buying an insurance policy that may not even pay out in the event of an accident.

Is Dwayne a sure thing? Of course not. But he has a much clearer path to touches.

Yeah, but they will play.  This guy has Theo ahead of him still and he is unproven.  I just don't see it.
Well he played & outscored Rogers & Rawls last week. And now rawls is banged up, and rodgers has wheaton coming back in front of him. Kevin white is going to play-- but Cut;er is out.. Im just saying.. its not a "no brainer" when those are the options

Theo Riddick has had 90 carriers in four NFL seasons. His career high rushing attempts was 7 until 3 days ago (11 v. TEN.)

Washington is going to receive touches on 1st, 2nd and the GL.

Thing is...if you don't jump the gun, you may be out of luck.

I'm not convinced that Riddick holds up all year.  He's the smaller pass catching back not built for 20+ carries on a consistent basis.  Heck...up until last week (11 attempts for 37 yards), he's never had more than 7 attempts in a game going back to 2014 and 2015.  In 2014, he had a total of 43 rushing attempts for 133 yards.  In 2015, he had 20 rushing attempts for 51 yards.  What he does well is catch passes (80 receptions last year for 697 yards).

Now, Washington may pan out to be just mediocre and have limited opportunities.  However, the offense has been playing well and they have to get a big body involved especially around the GL.

Speaking of Joique, any chance he could pull a "LeGarrette Blount" -- ie, the known quantity who comes back and reassumes his old role over the unproven guys? Watching him last year, it seems unlikely. But then it seemed unlikely Blount would pull that off in NE.

NE D is fine, but I don't think they're so elite that you have to hang on to them. If I were in your situation, I'd grab DWash for NE and figure out what to do on D next week.
Week 9 bye and as soon as Brady comes back they will get better not having to play soft zone in the second half. Top 5 D for sure.

Think they should be floated.

Riddick has 19 of the 47 rushes this year

I'll be putting in a claim for Washington tonight, but I'd temper my expectations

havent seen this type of hype since Abdullah's rookie crap fest

I like DeAndre but he has Jalen Richard and Latavius to beat out. I like his chances of outperforming Latavius, but it's going to be a much longer road. Dwayne has the opportunities now.

As for jumping the gun. Riddick is best served as a receiving back. He runs the ball much more than he should and I believe that is to keep the defense honest. When you think of how the Lions use Riddick, there are a few situations that come to mind: SD, NE & CIN. Riddick is used much like Dion Lewis, Gio Bernard and Danny Woodhead. Now, Dwayne isn't a Blount or Hill type of physical runner, but he could be a Melvin Gordon type guy (in terms of style of play).

This could be a big WW pickup. Or we could be dumping him for somebody else. It's what makes the game fun.

FYI Detroit is @ Green Bay this week.

Not the best match-up to roll the dice on.
Run D has been stingy so far...wondering if that levels off a bit as they have been getting killed through the air (and Dline is banged up a bit now too).

As for people who are being criticized for potentially starting Washington this week, I'm in that same boat. I have Le'Veon Bell coming back next week. LeSean McCoy is in the dumpster fire offensive facing Arizona, Crowell is the RB going against Miami with Kessler as his QB (don't expect it to be close so few rushing attempts), Ware is going against the Jets and Charles is expected to be in play this weekend.

Washington against the Packers this week who have given up the 2nd fewest points to RBs this year. I'm not sure if that is due to their defense, or who they have faced this year. TJ Yeldon has looked awful for Jax and Minnesota hasn't been able to run effectively at all this year. So perhaps it's just good matchups thus far. The Packers gave up the 4th most yards per rushing attempt last year. So perhaps the tough matchup for week 3 isn't so tough after all?

I set the record for points scored in a single week in the history of my league in week 1. Then had the lowest points in week 2. I'm a boom or bust type of team I guess, so I may swing for the fences and start him.

I had put in a bid on him earlier of 245 out of 1,000 that was before this news. Too bad this news did not come out a day later. Really need a RB to start with both Jamal Charles, Dion Lewis and now Foster on side line.  I have to stop drafting so early. I am thinking of going more than 50% is that too crazy?

I don't see anyone hyping him - it's a very "matter of fact" approach throughout.

  • Abdullah on the IR
  • Riddick tabbed starter, but has shown in the past he's a better hybrid back who excels in the passing game.
  • Washington DID in fact beat out ZZ and others for the "big back" role.
  • Washington has the trust of his coaches to be given GL looks already.
I have Riddick in one league and I grabbed Washington off the FA list this AM because in the past I've (stupidly/arrogantly) assumed that I knew what coaches were thinking or believed what was reported, and as a result I ended up with the #2 when the #1 ran away with the job - on someone else's roster.

I grabbed Washington in my deeper league as a lottery ticket because should Ridick get hurt, Washington could become a true feature back with 20+ touches a game. That seems like  a long shot, but stranger things have happened. Not saying Riddick is guaranteed to fail, but I'd feel pretty stupid if I put all my faith in Riddick and Washington came out and blew away expectations and took over as the heavy work early down role, relegating Riddick to a pure receiving back.

Not saying it's going to happen, nor am I hyping Washington - but reading the tea leaves on this one, Washington seems like a shrewd pickup.

This is where I value my day job and how it helps me make intelligent fantasy decisions.

Washington is at least a goal line back. Riddick is an obvious bump for more work but he's notas good of a runner as Washington. Washington is the type of back I think the Lions thought they got with abdullah. I'm at almost c-mike/David wilson levels of excitement for him, so I'd better temper expectations

Any idea what the next highest bid was?
Nope, I could ask around and see what others bid but didn't want to beat myself up when I find out that I could have gotten him for $25.  Knowing my league, I figure a couple others had to put at least $30 down.  Who knows though.  I'd have been more mad if I bid lower and missed than spent extra money when I didn't need to.

as an abdullah owner and a horrible fantasy team already, i lucked out that i picked him up for a measley $2 last night -i was fearing bad news for abdullah but didn't quite expect IR so quickly

oh yeah, and i'm starting dwayne this week over yeldon and jamaal charles

I will be starting DW this weekend, for a few different reasons.

First and foremost I just lost AD, Stewart and Foster in my dynasty and only have Forsett, Asiata, Cameron Artis Payne left as options

I also own Zenner and as a Lion homer I have expected a decent role for a back not named Abdullah & Riddick as both seem to be more 3rd down type backs than full time backs. Once I saw DW light it up in pre-season I picked him up as I think he has the tools to do it all for fantasy- pass catching, goal line and breakaway long runs.

Not sure what will happen this week but I fully expect a split with Riddick but DW getting all goal line looks plus enough carries and receptions to put up points with limited touches.
