*** Official Fatballguys v.6 Weight Loss Jamboree*** (1 Viewer)

This is about the 4th time I've actively tried to lose weight since I was just out of college. Started out as a chubby kid, lost it all in high school then have gone up and down since then. I always ate well but found it really difficult to keep thin. I found the holy grail in my early 30's when I discovered low-carb. Without even trying I stayed around 165 (I'm 5-10). Then I my g/f moved in and I stopped doing low-carb. Still ate well, but just as before the weight started packing on to about a high of 195 about a year ago. Recently started doing low carb again and am back down to 186. Going to keep it up, though not as extreme as before when I was single. Looking to get to around 165 again and think I will by summer. I'll be ecstatic when I finally hit the 170's. It's been like 6 years. It was awesome when my father poked my gut and exclaimed "Look at you! You look like me! You gainin' weight?" minutes before our Thanksgiving meal. Ruined Thanksgiving but strengthened my resolve! :football:

I'm almost embarassed to even post my weight at this point.I was in denial and refused to weigh myself after my shirts started not to fit.I went from 325 to 185 in 2 years a few years back with Atkins. Got a girlfriend and bubbled back up again over the past year.:bag:Stepped on the scale last night and couldn't believe the number and instantly became depressed.MyFitnessPal: CzarNikolai

6'0" used to be fat guy two years ago when I did this and dropped from 242 pounds.Starting Weight: 179Goal Weight: 170MyFitnessPal: MadshotThe goal is to use a lot more weights this time around because I love cardio. I bought myself some kettle bells and some programs for it. Going to try and go from a small belly to having a good muscle tone. I already started on my own after I was 190 pounds a few months back and that caused me to reexamine my exercise/eating.My main obstacle is working out in the morning and then having a girlfriend that wants to do everything together and complains that I didn't wait till the afternoon to workout. Once it hits noon I have no motivation to workout, it's a morning therapy for me.
Apparently there is a lot of solid data indicating that peak physical performance occurs between 2:00-6:00pm. But I'm like you; I either work out early or I probably won't work out. I can live with that extra 5% performance boost.

BCAA's = Branch Chain Amino Acids The last couple days I've been giving intermittent fasting a try.I'm ingesting the BCAA's in place of my regular, higher calorie, protein shake pre/post morning workout. I've stopped eating breakfast, essentially fasting for about 18 hours at a time.....recommended reading hereThe idea is that I can cut my calories down by skipping this meal.,,thus helping me drop a couple lb's. I'll try it for a little while and report back.

Taken from leangains.com
One pre-workout meal

This is the most common setup for my younger clients that are still in college or have flexible working hours.

Sample setup

12-1 PM or around lunch/noon: Pre-workout meal. Approximately 20-25% of daily total calorie intake.

3-4 PM: Training should happen a few hours after the pre-workout meal.

4-5 PM: Post-workout meal (largest meal).

8-9 PM: Last meal before the fast.

I hate being fat but god to I love eating. I sprung on some fast food tonight and paid for it with four miles on the treadmill. Ughhh

Something about eating Lean Cuisine for lunch makes me feel like a #####. Bah.
I tried those a while back... they were ok, but I knew it was nothing I would stick to so I just went back to sandwiches and sometimes salad.
If I didn't eat these I would be going out to the deli. I think my main problem is putting myself in bad situations where I lack the will-power to just say no. I might walk into a deli 100% convinced I'll order a turkey sandwich but when the lady behind the counter asks me what I'm getting it's always the same deliciousness... grilled roast beef with extra cheese on an everything bagel...Mmmm...Ughhh so yeah. If I leave the office I WILL eat poorly.
What if you bring your own sandwich/salad? I really like the Boars Head "Everroast" chicken a lot... good amount of flavor just on its own. I add a couple of claussen dill pickle slices for flavor. Between the bread, meat and pickles it's 215 calories. Toss in a Yoplait strawberry greek yogurt and it keeps me pretty satisfied til dinner. Someone recommended the Yoplait in the myfitnesspal thread... it is REALLY good, and I hated greek yogurt prior to trying it.
Large chef salads with vinegar cured my sandwich addiction, but to those doing the same, watch the sodium intake. Try to get the low sodium options when available. You don't even taste the difference. As for Greek yogurt, Fage kills everything else. And the plain Greek yogurt is even a good substitute for sour cream.

Ok, count me in too.I actually started in the beginning of December.Height: 6' 5"Starting weight: 298 (now 286)Goal weight: 240 (maybe lower, we'll see)MyFitnessID: WHFiveOH

I've always loathed Yogurt. Something about the texture. I always buy deli meat to make sandwiches but never end up making them. If I make it the night before the bread gets all soggy and nasty and in the morning I'm always in a rush to get out the door (I skip breakfast most days unless I grab a bagel.) I should probably start going to bed earlier and getting up earlier.

In what form do you get your BCAAs? Vitamins? Where do you get them from? I've been hearing increasingly good things about them and may incorporate them into my supplement.

I don't know if it's my scale or extra water weight or what but it's amazing what an "off" day can do. This past Sunday I stepped on the scale. I weighed 185. Who hoo! Probably the least I've weighed in about 4 years. Went over my brother's to watch the games and didn't go crazy but I was snacking on a variety of delicious appetizers he made throughout the day. Had about 4 beers, a couple of mixed drinks and about 4 small slices of pizza. Stepped on the scale Monday morning....191. Now my scale isn't the greatest. It can fluctuate a pound or so each time you step on it. I figured it was mostly water weight. But here it is, Friday morning and the scale reads 186. I've been good all week. Hell, I even felt guilty about eating about 2 cups of squash soup last night because of the carbs. So it seems that it's going to take just about a week to make up for last Sunday. It used to be that, when doing low-carb, an off day actually seemed to help. Like it jump started my system or something. Sucks getting old.

I'm starting today:6'3Start: 206.5Goal: 185Did P90X a few years ago and hit 178 which is not sustainable. Haven't worked out in about a year due to the last few months of my wife's pregnancy and our now 9.5 month old (had been at 190ish).
Today I was at 205.8. That is some weak sauce :kicksrock:
204.6 this morning. I can do way better than this...but I also haven't worked out at all in a year.

I feel ya. I've lost 3 pounds in the last 4 weeks. Now granted, that includes the week of Christmas through New Year's, but still. I'm slightly irritated right now.

I'm so freaking hungry. Will I get used to this? They had a pizza party at work and I have abstained. Now there are 3 pizzas just sitting here. I'm not going to eat any, but I'm also not going to get much work done. All I can think about is food.

(1) There's a certain amount of hunger decrease, as your body becomes accustomed to less food.(2) There's a saying I've heard a lot - 'you're not hungry, you're bored. Drink some water and learn to tell the difference.'(3) If you're actually starving, you need a better food plan (more volume, less calorie-intense).

Bro, you can do it! Get you a bag of mixed nuts. Get some healthy alternatives around you. You can literally eat all kinds if healthy foods all day which actually helps your blood sugar and causes your body to store less fat.

I'm feeling better now. I think sitting at work waiting for the day to end with all that pizza was getting to me. I had some water and a few sesame sticks.

I am of the opinion that if you truly feel hungry then you should eat. Pizza would be a very bad choice however. I believe that if you are properly feeding your body your hunger will be easily controlled. I also believe that most people who are trying to lose weight reduce fat in their diets way too much (low fat and lots of lean protein), and they choose the wrong fats that they will eat (relying too heavily on high omega-6 heavy vegetable oils) and I believe this is leads to less satiety overall (Although to be completely honest I am not 100% certain the science backs that up. I will check and get back to you on that one).I lean more towards the Paul Jaminet belief that we should get the majority of our calories from fat (50-65%) and limit carbohydrates (400-600 cal/day depending on your activity level). Fat tastes good, I believe it keeps you feeling satisfied longer and in the absence of high carbs I don't believe that it is bad for you.

His goal is to lose weight. Things like lean meats, eggs, and some dairy are very good for you but it can be difficult to lose weight while consuming a lot of them - dairy and eggs anyway. As long as he's getting his vitamins, nutrients, and protein elsewhere anyway. I have seen several overweight people be successful temporarily giving this stuff up then slowly adding it back in moderation once nearing their ideal weight. Whatever works for you...

What's been working for me as far as dairy and eggs are the Fage Greek yogurts, one or two tablespoons of Parmesan or Pecorino Romano cheese instead of real cheese on my salads or steamed veggies, and if I eat an egg, it'll be one yolk and three or four whites, and no more than one yolk a day. I find that an awesome breakfast is 4 egg whites, one yolk, and half a whole wheat English muffin with a pat of smart source spread on it.

ETA: one egg white is 17 calories so they pack a major protein punch in very little calories.

Actually my original goal was to make a lifestyle change so we have decided to move to a plant-based diet. We consume more nuts, soy milk, tofu, veggies, etc. More concerned long term over animal proteins effects on heart disease, etc.To each his own. I feel better, take vitamins, less hungry, using new notches in the belt, etc. Wife and I read the "China Study" book and also watched the movie Forksoverknives which is available on the website of the same name.

There are some who make arguments against it, but I am comfortable not eating meat. And honestly, I will eat sushi once or twice a month which gets me some animal protein. I encourage everyone to check it out whether you decide to change or not. It has benefited me. At least for now.

I'm all for lifestyle changes. Operative word, lifestyle. If this is a change you're making then it must be long term. If not, you will fail. Don't let failure beat you. Sounds like this is permanent for you, so cheers to good health! :banned: Lots of ways to get there, just a matter of finding what works for you.

Amen to that, brohan! 5 kids, 2 ages 3&5, I want to be around for them. I didn't stand a chance the way I was going.Honest to God, I don't feel hungry. I don't miss milk like I thought I would. I used to drink 2 gallons a week every week. I miss cheese, but am dealing with it. I don't miss meat. I drink a lot of water.I've now lost ~30 lbs and am starting to exercise tomorrow. It can happen, even at 44.I hope to help to inspire others which will help to inspire me. Pay it forward!

Link It's very long, it's pretty much a minute-by-minute, claim-by-claim critique, but if you are going to follow the movie and book you should understand the, often significant, problems with them.ETA: I am not saying don't continue with what is working for you, just offering a very good breakdown of the other side of the coin.

FTR Atkins works to help pretty much everyone who tries it lose weight. No one in the scientific community disputes that fact.

Thanks man! This is just a starting point for me and I'm sure as I learn more I will modify my approach. As I've said, I've already added fish in occasionally. More will come I'm sure. For now, I'm motivated, feeling better, losing weight and loving it. Onward and upward. In fact, I am typing this from my bicycle seat here at planet fitness. First workout in 7 years. Say a prayer. :D

For anyone looking for a healthy breakfast cereal, I just found this gem. Kashi GoLean Crisp. It tastes great and is sweetened just enough for me to tolerate. I eat it with Silk Light Soy milk. Tastes great!Speaking of Silk Light soy milk, please give it a try. Over cereal, it tastes just like skim milk.

I agree with this. Keep in mind that I'm not advocating for a soy diet. I said I add silk onto my cereal. Added info, I'm also somewhat lactose intolerant.

Going to start weighing in Sunday nights since that's probably when I'm at my heaviest what with the weekend and all.Weight on 1/13/13 - 258 - 4 pounds lost since last weigh in. 4 pounds total.
Weight on 1/20/13 - 255 - 3 pounds lost since last weigh in. 7 pounds total. The above actually frustrates me since I was 252 the night before. Football Sundays always kill me.

I had a checkup in December and it became obvious I needed to do something. Routine overindulger in alchol. Cut the alcohol completely, work out once a day for about and hour and have been eating fairly well. I hadn't been weighing myself at all but the belt was telling me good things. Went to the doctor for a sore knee and was down 18 pounds in thirty days. 275 to 257. Blood pressure dropped from 140/90 to 130/84. I assume the cholesteral numbers will show an improvement whe they come in. My diet was extremely poor and I've kind of been surprised at the amount you can eat and still lose weight when you are not pounding calorie dense food. I will have a lot of salads dressed with vinegar and olive oil and you can pound a big ol salad for what a couple of measely tacos or something would cost you. I like a low sodium V-8 with some tobasco added. Kind of blah otherwise. The alcohol was a triple killer for me with the calories, then the munchie over eating and the tendecny not to want to work out.Overall I am in a good space about everything.

Need to get in on this...Height: 6'Starting Weight: 215Goal Weight: 180Looking to shed 10 pounds a month over the next three months. Started eating better - less sweets, more veggies. Also cut soda out of my diet completely. Wife picked up Insanity workout, so I'm going to kick that off tonight. I've read about MyFitnessPal, so I'll likely sign up for that tonight as well. Anything I can do to get my weight back under control.
Trying to keep weigh-ins for Monday mornings.Today's weigh-in: 211Not too bad for the first week. Looking to keep this going to beat my goal of 10lbs this month. Insanity workout is a beast. I can hardly make it through the second set of exercises and they are talking about beefing up for the third set on the videos. Ugh.
Haven't checked in since 1/7. Today's weigh-in is 205. Been a rough two weeks around the house with kids having the flu, then my wife. Just found out yesterday that her grandmother is severely ill and not expected to make it through the week. Lots of stress and now this. Still maintaining what I eat (limited carbs, little/no sugar, lots of fruits/veggies, and no eating after 7pm). I went from working out 6 days a week in the beginning of the month to 3 days a week the last two weeks. Still losing some weight, which is good. Going to try kickstarting workouts again this week. My goal is to be under 200 by Feb 1. I haven't been under that in 5 years, and it looks like I'm on pace to hit it.

Tough sledding thus far. Just after hitting my stride and it becoming a habit to get in the gym, I dislocated a toe on one foot and broke a finger (looooooooooooooooooooong story). The toe's doing better and I can walk normally again, but I'm not lifting any weights for a while. Through all this, I'm at 268....down a couple pounds from my last posting here. Very frustrated at the moment though.

Losing the Christmas gut slowly but surely. Down to 220 this morning. Cannot wait to get to 199. I will make it this time. 60 days until my Spring break cruise!

My alcohol tip is to start drinking bourbon or scotch. A decent sized glass of bourbon has about 100 calories, maybe a little more. If you put it over ice and just sip it, it can last quite awhile. You can get a little buzz, not feel full, and really take your time with it. Skip the soda, juice, and beer and you won't get the munchies. Just drink straight bourbon or scotch.

3 day sales convention last week, open bar and huge spreads every night. Friday night I had a dozen beers, went out for poutine at 2 AM, they were still serving beer, so had one more, then got back and went to a co workers room for pizza and more beer. Needless to say I put a few pounds back on, my goal was 200 by Feb 15 ( going on a cruise).Started at 220 on Oct 15, so it was 5 per month. Was nicely down to 210 as planned on Dec. 15. Christmas, New Years and this past weekend and I'm still at 211, with 4 weeks to go :(
