I'm playing on the PS3, but I agree with TLEF. It's going to take me a while to get used to the maps, but this was a lot of fun last night.
Good so it's not just me. Felt like I lost a lot of gun battles that I thought I should have won.TLEF316 said:i'm convinced at this point....the starting assault rifle has absolutely no redeeming qualities at all. Its the worst gun ever made.
No, its not just you. that gun stinks. No stopping power, tons of recoil, terrible iron sights. It might be servicable with the red dot scope once you unlock it. But at that point, you've unlocked better gun choices anyway.Good so it's not just me. Felt like I lost a lot of gun battles that I thought I should have won.TLEF316 said:i'm convinced at this point....the starting assault rifle has absolutely no redeeming qualities at all. Yeah, had a rough go of it when I played late with madshot. I played a round earlier and did okay (about even on KD). When I played with him it was AWFUL.No, its not just you. that gun stinks. the horn plays for the rest of a round once your team is down to 15 tickets. your team loses 1 ticket when you die. you can see how many tickets each team has left on the lower left hand portion of your HUB (just above the mini map) Plus, there is usually some sort of extra ticket bleed if the other team is dominating the map (owns most of the flags in "conquest" mode). If you revive someone, your team doesnt lose a ticket. For some reason, if you die but are revived, you still get charged a death on your K/d ratio. This doesnt make me happy at all. they should change that back. cant wait to get on Vent with a squad full of FBG's. communication and cooderinated squads are gonna dominate this game online.I think I know what horn you guys are talking about but it didn't stand out to me and I was wearing a headset while playing. Also, I have no idea what's going on most of the time with regard to tickets and such or even how to find out.I can see this being a really fun game with a full squad that communicates though.
thats what sticks out to me too. The jungle maps are just unbelievable. Laguna Presa is probably my favorite map so far. its really funny how all the reviews just gloss over the destruction portion of the game. It just totally changes game play. There are moments where you think you are a safe in a building and all of a sudden you hear "Boom....RING" and then the wall is gone, you're surrounded by a cloud of dust and everyone is shooting at you. its so great. The smoke/dust/snow blowing around can be a bit much at times, but its not that bad.I played terrible last night, but this game is pretty fun.The maps are outstanding visually. The trees!!!!!
Last night we had five people rolling in a squad of three and two all in the same party chat. So with xbox you could have two squads of four at the max talking together.the best moment for me last night.... took out 2 guys from 40 yard away with a grenade launcher as they tried to enter a building with several of my teammates upstairs![]()
the worst moment..... 2 seconds later when that same grenade blast apparently took out the final stud that was holding up that building, causing it to collapse with my teammates still in the atic (got hit for 3 TK's)![]()
And also, how about "the horn"? Anyone fortunate enough to play yesterday knows what I'm talking about. Not sure how they do it, but it doesn't sound like its coming out of my speakers. I had to turn them down several times because i thought it was a car alarm going off in my parking lot.I'm in my basement and was what the hell is that noise.....
If you set the sound setting to WAR TIME - OMG is it awesome - I had to turn it down to Sound system or whatever.
I haven't played a shooting game since COD MW 1. It's been probably a good 2 years. I've played Halo a couple times and never played Battlefield BC. So this is a breath of fresh air. I played the original Battlefield way back and liked it.
I love being a sniper but I'm not great but it's slow building. I get most of my points spotting - LMAO
I usually play rush or conquer my best moment last night was I dropped my C4 around a flag and to my guys to go to the other one. I sat back and see the flag starting to get taken and set off the C4 - ended up with like 4 kills, vehicle explosion, the works.
It's awesome - will need to add some friends. I think I had a ton of FBG but I think I did a purge a while back.
I'm sure I will hate it when everyone else has 50 hours logged in and I have 10 but for now great game. I wish you could get big team communication because we had 8 people and we couldn't always sync.
What fools are 360 BF:BC2 guys?
<--- EAbell
This is huge, there is actual recoil on the guns and you won't hit #### without burst firing. 2. There is bullet drop at distances. Aim above there heads with a sniper and play around to get the hang of it.Okay, can you BF vets compile some sort of tip list for n00bs like me and Manback?
I'll start:
1. Burst fire. Seriously. You're dead if you don't.
TIA
The level after you left we spawned with two tanks, and McGavin and myself stole their two tanks. We had a four tanks squad of doom rolling through the desert level.I played terrible last night, but this game is pretty fun.The maps are outstanding visually. The trees!!!!!
The starting medic gun has the worse iron sights in the game. They cut off half of your visibility. When I would aim I would always have to readjust and then die. Once I unlocked the next gun I went fro like losing encounters to winning many of them.Good so it's not just me. Felt like I lost a lot of gun battles that I thought I should have won.TLEF316 said:i'm convinced at this point....the starting assault rifle has absolutely no redeeming qualities at all. Any other PS3'ers on this? I can't decide if I should get this for Xbox or PS3. I have also not played the demo and have no idea what to expect.I'm playing on the PS3, but I agree with TLEF. It's going to take me a while to get used to the maps, but this was a lot of fun last night.
I am getting the PS3 version. My pre-order is in the mail.Any other PS3'ers on this? I can't decide if I should get this for Xbox or PS3. i know lots of people "love being a sniper" but it really isnt all that helpful in this game. (the destructible cover and kill cam really limit their effectiveness from a camping perspective) It can be helpful in conquest to some extent , but its useless in Rush mode. Unless you can defend a flag (as opposed to just parking up on a mountain somewhere) you're usually more helpful playing a diferent class. tHe one thing that can change this is the mortar unlock. Its very good against vehicles. A good sniper can be very useful. But mediocre snipers just kill their teams. If you've got 3-4 bad snipers on a 16 person team, you're dead from the start. and yes, the semi auto rifle (at least the first one) is not great. Might be better for an assualt sniper type of role, but as far as long distance stuff, you're much better off with the bolt actions rifles. And yes, the MW2 supporters who dismiss this game arent really paying attention. Other than customization options (Bc2 is good here, but Mw2 is just awesome) there is no comparison.MY PSN ID is Todem Love it love it love it.So question are you working on one class or mixing it up. I played as a Recon all night last night (I love being a sniper) and unlocked my first gun. Funny though i like the single shot scope sniper rifle much better than the multi shot I unlocked. Much more stopping power and better range for doing the kind of recon I do.So what are you guys doing as far as leveling up. I can see the replay value being immense by working on one class at a time. Or are you looking at the maps and deciding what class works best for you?Anyone who thinks MWII is better than this does not like true tactical play...the maps on this game are just gorgous.
cant wait to get mine. Maybe a few months down the road once my job situation sorts itself out. if i can get one soon and pocket all my severance, i can afford to blow some $$ on toys.Dang this 5850 is massive. I cannot see how they keep getting bigger. So now the 5850 goes to my home rig, the GTX260 comes to my office, then I need to find a spot for my 4850.
For the time being, I'm just working on ranking up as a medic. That was sort of my go-to class in the demo, although I played as an engineer sometimes too if there were lots of vehicles about. Eventually I'll need to spend some time with each class because I'll at least want them as an option so I'll want their various gadgets unlocked. My PSN is Ajax35 if you want to add me.Edit: Again, TLEF is right about snipers not being very helpful. Recon players can be useful if they're in the field of battle blowing up vehicles with C4, calling in mortar strikes, and picking off stragglers, but it's hard for a team to win if you've got a quarter of your teammates sitting on a cliff picking off guys who are just going to respawn in the same spot 15 seconds later.MY PSN ID is Todem Love it love it love it.So question are you working on one class or mixing it up. I haven't seen anyone dismiss this game. You guys are getting carried away here. Completely different games. And yes, the MW2 supporters who dismiss this game arent really paying attention. Other than customization options (Bc2 is good here, but Mw2 is just awesome) there is no comparison.
I don't think Hardcore has a killcam - does it?Rush - I can see it not being effective. But conquest I think it's very good. I'm ok - not great but ok, been a long time since I played this type of game. One good thing about sniping is helping your team by marking targets that you can see in your scope to help your teammates, you get points and it does help. I know I need work because it's taking me forever to level up.i know lots of people "love being a sniper" but it really isnt all that helpful in this game. I still need 4000 points - LOL.I unlocked the motion detector as a sniper though.maybe dimiss isnt the right word. Its more like they just think MW2 is the greatest game ever. (not necessarily people here in the FFA) While its a good game for what it is, i've always kept the stance that if you pull away all the customization options, the shooting mechanics are very shallow.I haven't seen anyone dismiss this game. You guys are getting carried away here. Completely different games. And yes, the MW2 supporters who dismiss this game arent really paying attention. yeah. thats annoying. there are also several menu options (most notably invert mouse wheel for weapon switching) that dont work yet. They still need to toggle the flipping Crouch. Seriously DICE, do you want 50,000 carpal tunnel lawsuits to descend upon you over the next 6 months?
What you call shallow I would call fluid. Don't have enough time with BFBC2 to really say for sure but it seems a bit clunky to me so far. Might just be because it's new/different.I love MW2 and really like BFBC2 so far and can see loving it as well once I get more time with it.maybe dimiss isnt the right word. I guess i could see that. I just think that game is just so painfully arcadey. The people that really like it claim that its a realistic game, when it really isnt. it just looks realistic.Obviously, BC2 isnt a super hard core sim either, but i think its a lot closer. you feel like your character has weight. i never got that from MW2. you can run backwards and side to side just as fast as you can run forwards.I wouldnt want to play a game like ARMA where you can die in 1 shot every time, but i need to at least feel like i'm controlling a person. MW2 just always seemed like it was running on rails to me.What you call shallow I would call fluid. Don't have enough time with BFBC2 to really say for sure but it seems a bit clunky to me so far. Assault -- You get an underslung grenade launcher. You can drop ammo boxes so your teammates can re-load. Terrible starting guns.Medic -- You can drop medkits that heal your teammates and you can revive your teammates after they die (this saves respawn tickets). Carries a copious amount of ammo; you'll die before you run out. No ability to take out vehicles or walls. The Soviet version has to wear a red beret, which looks gay. Engineer -- Can repair friendly vehicles. Has an RPG to take out vehicles and/or structures. Starting gun has a very small clip and needs to be reloaded constantly.Recon -- Can plant C-4 to blow up vehicles, structures, or people. Has a little sensor ball thing that automatically spots all nearby enemies and marks them on your teammates' map. Hands out dogtags right and left to the enemy. Can someone breakdown the bennies/downsides of each class?Or point me in the right direction of where I can find that?
This is good stuff. Can someone tell me HOW you do some of this (i.e. drop ammo boxes & med kits, plant C4, etc)? This is the kind of stuff that should go in the n00b tip list.Assault -- You get an underslung grenade launcher. First of all, you have to unlock each gadget. For example, medics can't do anything special when they first start out. You have to earn points while playing as a medic first, by getting kills, defending stations, capturing flags, or whatever. (Note: If you're in a vehicle or using a stationary gun, those points don't count as "medic" points -- they're "vehicle" points). After you level up a bit, you'll unlock the medkit. After you level up a little more, you'll unlock the defribulator. You have to press a button to use each gadget. One the PS3, it's the left and right d-pad buttons but obviously it's different on different controllers. For instance, if I want to throw down a medkit, I press the left d-pad (I think) and one pops out. Anybody who happens to be nearby will heal and I'll get points. If I press the right d-pad button, my defribulator comes up and I "shoot" a dead teammate with it to revive him. The gadgets for the other classes work the same. Can someone tell me HOW you do some of this (i.e. drop ammo boxes & med kits, plant C4, etc)?
Can non-medics heal themselves or do they heal over time automatically?First of all, you have to unlock each gadget. For example, medics can't do anything special when they first start out. Everyone can HOT if they rest and are not getting hit.Yes, there is the MMO player in me throwing around a HOT.Can non-medics heal themselves or do they heal over time automatically?First of all, you have to unlock each gadget. Maybe from the beta? How do you plant C4 on the 360 w/ the Recon class?not sure why, but i already had all the medic tools when i first logged on. (med kit and shock paddles)
Me too.not sure why, but i already had all the medic tools when i first logged on. (med kit and shock paddles)

I read somewhere that if you have Veteran status from previously BF games you start with extra stuff so that might be it..?Badger, you use the left and right DPad buttons to use the gadgets. You need to get about 1500 points before you start unlocking the first one in each class.not sure why, but i already had all the medic tools when i first logged on. (med kit and shock paddles)
Switch to holding the c4, then left trigger plant, right trigger boom.Maybe from the beta? How do you plant C4 on the 360 w/ the Recon class?not sure why, but i already had all the medic tools when i first logged on. (med kit and shock paddles)
You do heal over time but it takes much longer than the standard shooter.Everyone can HOT if they rest and are not getting hit.Yes, there is the MMO player in me throwing around a HOT.Can non-medics heal themselves or do they heal over time automatically?First of all, you have to unlock each gadget.
