Picked this up earlier. Played one game with Manback. I hopped on a mounted gun and smoked at least 10-15 enemies before some guy walked up behind me and took me out. Looking forward to playing some with you guys in about 20 minutes.

Any solid pointers for a noob? I've been playing FPS since the first HALO days, but this game is a new animal.

Well, okay.......very good stuffMy mom would be so proud of me, I LEARNED SOMETHING TODAY!!!!!

Honestly, so much they say is true though. Spotting goes back to BF2 and is critical to winning. As is always dropping your medkits/ammo boxes. And if you are recon running with mortars, you better be firing those off every time it goes off cooldown, even if you throw them where no one is but MIGHT be.

One more thing... If you are playing Rush on Isla Innocentes and you are on the attacking team, please don't snipe all day if your team is losing. Major pet peeve of mine.

So what are people's highest scores in a round? I was about 26k for one I believe due to a few stars and awards. I have been thinking of taking several weapons to 1 needed for a gold star and seeing how high of a single round I can get.

I think I have hit around 18k a few times including back to back games. My highest rounds without pins added in are around 4-5k if everything goes well. I did have one round were I got 8008 on Arica Harbor were the teams were evenly matched in a slugfest. Every M-Com station got blown up with <5 tickets left and we pulled out the win with the last station's timer ticking. I tend to get a lot of points because it always seems like the teams I am on have a shortage of engineers. So I rock the tank mines and rpgs and rack up 300+ tank kills a lot.

Actually, I got the sniper rifle efficiency pin and the naval warfare pin both by sniping on Isla Inocentes while on offense. I took a shower afterward but the shame wouldn't wash away.

Squad up and stick with your squadmates. Many of them are going to be worthless if you're playing with randoms, but sometimes you'll luck out and land on a squad of people who actually know what they're doing. You can learn all sorts of stuff by following them around. Seriously. That's proabably the single best way to learn the maps.

i feel bad dicking around as a sniper as well (by the way, the VSS sniper rifle SUCKS. its a pea shooter, and not a very accurate one)But since i already have the gold stars with most of the non-sniper weapons, and didnt even play sniper until i had unlocked everything else, i feel i'm allowed a couple rounds of non contributing.

I don't know how it works with consoles, if you can pick your squads and all, but you can pick them and change them on PC. I will always go in and join the biggest squad with the highest ranking people I can. Not that it means they will be better, but you will generally get better play. Especially squad up with players with Veteran status. That pretty much guarantees a much better random grouping experience as well.

I now only snipe if:

A. Our own snipers are the suck and we need a sharp shooter to take out some key assault guys around the the objective

B. No one seems to want to tank kill and I need to lay down some hell with mortors

C. If I am playing with randoms who have no concept of squad play and I want to pad my score.

Other than that I never snipe...too boring.

With consoles, all you get is a choice of whether you want to join a squad or not. If you choose "yes, put me in a squad," then the game assigns you to a squad. You can leave the squad you're assigned to and try to join another, but most of the time you get placed right back in the squad you left. Needless to say, this mechanic sucks. I know consoles are generally more limited than PCs, but you could choose your own squad in Killzone so I'm not sure why you're not allowed to in this game. Obviously you can squad up with people on your friends list.

I find the reason it places you into the same squad you just left is because the game usually consists of two 4 person squads and then random solo people and whoever is left gets stuck in the last squad.

How many squads does it allow in consoles? There are options of up to 8 squads per team for PC.

Not sure how many squads are allowed, never really had a problem being able to start a new one with FBGs. The game is 12v12 on console.

I have to say that even with reduced players in PC from previous iterations to 32 tops, there are reasons why I do love DICE about a gazillion times more than Infinity Ward. IW = bunch of console sellouts pimping crappy console ports to PC after having their roots in PC. DICE still gives the PC crowd its due.

Have you figured out how to get 8 guys in one room and still get the room full?

Way too many explosions in this game. Grenade Launchers, Gustavs, Tanks, etc. They need to limit Grenade Launcher reloads from ammo packs. Being able to carry 4 and then reload infinitley in the same spec? Dumb.

FWIW, a dozen of the best IW employees don't work at IW anymore. But I agree with your sentiments. Apparently, DICE did the multiplayer for the upcoming Medal of Honor game too.

I wonder how much pressure there is EA vs Activision? While EA certainly is strong with consoles, it at least has PC roots, while Activision/Atari is much more a console company.

I don't know. But the good news is that the people that have left IW the last few weeks started a new company called Respawn Entertainments, with EA backing them.I can honestly say that the last Activision game I've ever purchased for PC was Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. I have multiple EA titles.

Try playing defense on Isla Inocentes, and take a drink every time you take sniper fire or take damage from a mortar strike. You'll be way too drunk to pilot the Hind if you get that far.

I can see where that's great if you're a PC gamer, and I know that games are capable of handling more stuff better on PCs than consoles. But Dice didn't need to dumb down the console version quite this much. Like I mentioned earlier, Killzone 2 allowed players to organize and pick their own squads (instead of being assigned to one) and it allowed for 16 vs. 16 matches (instead of 12 vs. 12). Not that this isn't an awesome game anyway. It's just that this is one area that could have been improved for console players without harming the experience for you guys.

Playing with Maelstrom last night, getting killed, decided was gonna head to bed before the round ended. As I was getting ready to log, got killed by a guy who was then my NEMESIS. Well, I couldn't very well stop there with a pin so near, so I stayed on and hunted that SOB. Moments before the round ended, killed his butt with the Pro Pipe™ and got the payback pin, so only 2 more of those till I get the badge.

Yeah, I was brushing my teeth the whole time doing that, too. :wall:

yeah, due to my weak weapons recently i've had a few nemesises. I also need 2 more for the badge.

Went up against an obvious aim bot user the other day. A recon player running around with the 870 combat shot gun and the .45 caliber pistol. Probably killed me 15 times over the course of 5 or 6 rounds. Every single one of them was a head shot on the first shot. Worked with both weapons. If he saw me, i was dead.

Anyone using the new Steam beta UI? I decided to try it and am not too impressed so far.
I've been using it for a little over a month. It's ok, but nothing to get excited about. I think the only thing I like about it is that it has my most recent games listed when I click on the icon in the tray. Other than that, the games library is an eyesore. I know it has more info about the game, achievements and friends playing the game, but I just want to click on a game to play it.

pretty sure Mad Cow was just 1 kill away from becoming my nemesis :lmao:
That round was brutal. My team blew. That one guy who I think was in your squad - [PF] Kontrol or some such kicked my ###. He was my nemesis so I sought him out the rest of the game and he made me his ##### a few times over. I eventually did get him though. :coffee:I was someone else's nemesis, so if it wasn't you TLEF, then someone else felt my wrath while I sought out Kontrol. :lmao:Had an OK round - like 25-25 K/D, but you were dominant that one 35-25 was it? Nice.

yeah, i was like 35-25. Unfortunately, that score technically lowers my K/D ratio
I fell ya. I have been going for all the pins, thus using every weapon and a lot of them are just plain bad. After a while I get the feeling I am losing it. So, I slap on the M60 and go 62-25 and then go back to using the painful weapons. If your ever in a funk, just use the easy button.

discovered the one thing that hardcore mode is good for.....getting kills with the pea shooter auto snipers.

There are also fewer morons running around noobtubing

finally got done with the stupid auto snipers (cost me a few more points on my K/D ratio) and the crappy pistol. Working on my platinum star for the 416 now along with the gold star for the 40MM shot gun attatchment. Its pretty good, but it only comes with 2 rounds and re-loads VERY slowly. Plus, you need the full 100 kills for the gold star (most of the gadgets only require 50).

Gold stars left.....

40MM shot gun (need like 45 more kills)

Mines (havent even started yet)

Neostad 200 shot gun (got bronze)

Type 870 shot gun (bronze)

Thompson MG (bronze)

M1 Garand (nothing yet, since its still bugged)

apparently the newest patch is coming out today or tomorrow. Lots of updates (the full list can be seen at totalbf2) but they arent releasing the list of weapon balance tweaks. They want us to test the game with the tweaks without knowing what they are. they'll tell us what they did at a later date.

Stuff that is needed that wasnt on the list.....toggle crouch, fixing the M1 stats. Its a pretty extensive list though.

I really wish they'd fix the M1 stats. It's keeping me away from a couple of achievements.

Any FBG's interested in my "old" BFG GTX 260 (192 core) 896 MB DDR3 video card? I replaced it with a killer deal I got on an ATI 4890, and am considering the options, between giving it to my 10 yr old son for his computer and offloading his 8800 GT, or selling it on eBay. Thought I would see if there was any interest here. I am back to all ATI cards in my gaming rigs now - 5850 at home and 4890 at work.

Possibly. I'm still "rocking" the 8800gt. Let me know how much you want for it and how "used" it is. Not sure where the benchmarks put it.

Comparison of GTX260 and 8800 GT hereYou also get DX 10 with the 260 which you do not get with the 8800. It is not DX11, however.

As for price, looking at eBay closings, it is hard to find a listing for the 192 core vs the 216 core which is what is sold now. They tend to range between $120-130 or so before shipping. I would probably do $100 shipped for a FBG that I know.
