thinking about it today, i would be SHOCKED if this game isn't released before November 1st. In all likelihood, both Gears of War 3 and the next call of duty game will be out the month. Dice will have to release early to get in good with the console crowd. If they wait, they'll be screwed.

I would love for BF3 to adapt an almost MMO approach to play. Choose a character and build him up. Don't restrict weapons for class, but maybe give better accuracy with some. Then let you upgrade the weapons with the ranks you earn. For instance, you start out with an M4 carbine. Little by little, you add an Eotech sight, a magnifier for the sight, a quad rail with foregrip, etc. Sure, it kills balance but it would make it more fun to play a character as you build it.

SlaX and I got our Vietnam on last night. There are some fun maps to be sure. The PPSh is a beast. I think it is the most OP weapon in the game. The M14 is close.

Any of my PC gaming peeps want a free Red Orchestra steam code? I got one with my new Headset (The Space Squirrel special ;) ) and already have it.

BTW the Logitech G35 = headphone set. Performs USB flawlessly AND gives you the Space Squirrel. :)

I'll take it if it's still available.

Some Bf3 info from game informer

graphics look absurd.

Disappointed with only 4 classes, but its not a huge deal.

I'm not entire convinced it doesn't get delayed. It looks pretty damn ambitious graphically and i'm not sure they're ready to do those graphics plus full destruction for 64 players.

Unfortunately, i think that COD is still king and will probably outsell it no matter what. the 13-25 year old crown is dug in too deep.

Yeah, the PPSh is ridiculous. Almost no reason to use anything else if you're playing Vietnam. Although I still LOVE to run around with the flamethrower at times.
YOUR TEAM LOST!I can't believe they haven't fixed this bug yet (PS3)
Yeah, how tough could that possibly be? Ridiculous.

The M14 is certainly no slouch, but that PPSh will let you pretty much snipe at full-auto from about 200 yds with wicked accuracy.

So anyway, I got tired of the constant crashes, ya know? So I went ahead and said, screw it, I am upgrading. :bag:

I have a great case I got on special about 8 months ago (the Scout), and am pairing it with an Asus X58 Sabertooth, 12 GB triple channel memory and an Intel i7-950. That should keep me until next year. . .

Gonna keep my AMD 6970 2 GB video card, but also added a 120 GB SSD so my Steam games can fly, as well.

you realize that my computer is over 3 years old (other than the video card) and eats this game for breakfast...right?I can only remember one crash in months

It's just something going on. I have been wanting to upgrade my office anyway, so my office gets the i5-750, 8 GB RAM and the home gets the new one.

Cow, Joe, and I were playing nam. Just spawn-raping in the boat. All of a sudden the cow was gone, along with his score. Cost us the high squad pin.

Anyone see anything about the Homefront game coming out later next month? Looked kinda cool, story sounds intriguing and some interesting mechanics. (Official Site

Homefront is a story-driven shooter set after North Korea invades and overruns the continental United States. The single-player component sees the player as a member of the American resistance fighting the Korean People's Army in an attempt to regain control of the ruined nation. The multiplayer modes are set earlier, letting players engage in military scenarios from the invasion itself.

The multiplayer gameplay I've seen looks to be cookie cutter stuff taken from other FPS's already available, but I admit that the single player campaign interests me. I may give it a rental.

Used to play BF2, but hadn't played in a few years or more.

Then a few weeks ago I got a gaming PC with the capability to really play and appreciate BC2 so I went out and picked it up. Seems to me I used to be able to play pick up games and just use the in-game chat to join squads and play cooperatively. Now when I join a game I NEVER hear any squad chatter...

I'm usually playing solo and it's not as enjoyable. What gives?

Can someone help me get up to speed or let me know where I can go to catch up on whatever it is I'm missing...

For whatever reason they gave up on trying to make team chat work. We have a vent server to chat with other FBGs. Much more fun

It works, but even I'm surprised when anyone uses it. I remember getting into a squad the other day with either you or madcow and our squadmate wanted us to spawn on his jeep to drive or something and I was like "Wow, did I just hear someone from the squad say something in voice chat?" and whoever it was in vent said they didn't hear it. So either it was a rare occurance or just the voices in my head.

How does vent work?

Alright I installed Teamspeak3 (64 bit since Windows 7 is my OS), configured my microphone settings. Then I connected to TS.FRAGHAUS.COM from the teamspeak menu. Afterwards I selected BFBC2 channel. There is a woman's voice in my headset that tells me when I activate or mute my microphone, so I guess it is working.

Now do I just open BC2 or BC2 Vietnam and start playing? Do you guys play on specific servers? What happens if I start adding 'friends', etc.?

We currently use Ventrilo which is similar to Teamspeak and have our own private server. Once you install Ventrilo create a user name and then log into the server with the information below.

Ventrilo Information:

IP: ventrilo10.va.powervs.com

Port: 5074

Currently no password and can support 12 users.

I am HorribleJoe in Steam and BFBC2

I was in a server last night (Nam) where the whole squad was talking. However, I couldn't even tell you what button to press to chat with your squad, so I was silent. :pickle:

I have mine set to Z, but I don't remember if that is the default.

Played a few rounds with Slax over lunch today and we rolled pretty well for most of the time.

I am throwing this new system together, and I have to say that in the past, I have always gotten a great value motherboard, never one of the nice enthusiast ones. This time, I got an enthusiast board (Sabertooth) and I have to say there is a difference. The features it includes are slick. I think going forward, I will probably go that route. :lmao:

A couple of examples of the perks of this mobo - it has a universal connector where you connect all of the case wires (power switch, LED's, etc) so you can just drop it in easily once you have them all locked into place on the universal piece. It makes so much sense, because let's face it - we all hate trying to play surgeon and getting those things in there. Another one is it has a switch called MemOK. If you have a memory failure on boot, instead of going through all the sticks, etc., you press the button and it automatically goes through configurations to find what is wrong and then set it up to boot to see what is wrong and correct it.

Sounds pretty slick. What was the cost difference?

I got this mobo for $175 after coupon, normally $200 I believe.

Is anyone jumping to say Crysis 2 multiplayer or are we waiting it out for BF3? With Vietnam and the newer maps, there is still a lot of life left in BFBC2 for me, but don't want to be left alone either.

Based on the videos ive seen, multiplayer didn't look great. But I'll be picking it up for single player.I'll play BC2 at least until i hit level 50. I've come too far to give up (roughly 1/2 way to level 48)

Yeah, the single player will be good. I still have to finish the first one, was about 1/2 of the way through I think. I might just start working on that now that I finished up ME2. There are very few games that I have actually finished all of the way through. I get too busy or something else comes along, just the way it is.

I am exceedingly curious about how Deux Ex is going to be. I loved the first one, but the 2nd was a bomb.

Apparently Home Front single player is supposed to be a very good story driven ride, as well.

The multiplayer wasn't that great from what I played on the XBox 360 version. Just your standard team deathmatch or hold the objective stuff with the extra perks that your suit gives you, and when you think about the fact that everyone has the suit, it's just a basic deathmatch.I still need to finish the first Crysis single player myself. It was okWish I could get rid of these stupid migraines. This latest one I've had since Wednesday. It's been so bad, I won't even attempt to play BC2 with it. And that's bad.

Let's keep track of the preorder specials in here. We know the LE has a free expansion pack, and that DICE really wants the preorders due to the intense competition at that time of year.

Some info

Some BF3 gameplay video is available at:

Nice. I will almost certainly preorder the LE to get Back to Karkand. Just waiting for it to pop up on Steam.BTW has anyone played the SP campaign for BC2? Is it worth it for the story at all?
I've played a big part of it. It's ok for a campaign, but nothing special. The character interaction is funny at times, but the check point locations suck. If you have plenty of games to play, I can see never playing it, but if you've got nothing to play, it doesn't hurt to get into the campaign. You won't be missing anything if you never play it, though. A couple of cool sequences, but nothing you haven't seen in a Call of Duty campaign.

I thought the BC2 campaign was well done. There are a few filler missions for sure, but the storyline overall is intriguing and there are a hand full of really epic missions that make the whole thing worthwhile. Heavy Metal is probably my favorite campaign mission of all time. Not the worst thing you could be doing if you've got nothing else to play. It's worth mentioning that I was superstoned when I played through the BC2 campaign.

also waiting for the steam pre-orders to open, but obviously I will be getting this on launch day.

And if I can actually download and play it on launch day, I will probably be taking the day off to do so :bag:

I wonder what the recommended specs are gonna be. I'd have no problem if i have to buy a 2nd 5850 to get high-very high settings. I'll be a tad ticked off if i need a new CPU, and therefore a new motherboard.

If you go with Steam, certainly don't plan on taking release day off. :hot: You might want to take about 2 days later off. I well remember the BFBC2 Steam release.

They would be wise to allow the preload, which they obviously did not last time. I remember people that were buying it at the store were going that morning. I don't think Steam even had the file in place to download until later that afternoon.

a developer on the EA forums confirmed that "Back to Karkand" map pack that we'll get with pre-orders will include Karkand, Sharqi ( :lmao: ) Oman and Wake.

I seriously don't get the Wake obsession. It's been done to death in every single battlefield game and it really isn't that fun unless you are a good pilot. I can't remember having one good fire fight on that map.

I'd much prefer a souped up Mashtuur City, but i guess they needed a 2nd "big map" to appease the guys that can fly a plane.
