man, i dont know how you guys can play those big maps. Kubra dam is the worst excuse for a map ive ever seen. Terrible.

I like Kubra Dam. I used to hate it but then I finally learned how to drive a tank :bag: Had my highest score in one round on Kubra.

My least favorite is Operation Clean Sweep

Clean Sweep, I used to hate. Now it grows on me. I had never been a fan of Kubra until I played it once with a very well-coordinated squad and we :own3d: the other team and had a great time. I think it really boils down to exposure. The more I play certain maps, the more I like them. BF2 did an excellent job with the maps. Especially love the Wake 2007 map - had my best score there. For 1942 and DC, though, I was all about El Alamein and Gazala.

i try to play the bigger maps at times, but i dont really like driving the vehicles that much. Im a ground pounder. At this point, the only maps i play are Karkland, Mashtuur, Sharqi, Oman, Daqinq oil fields. I have special forces, but havent really played it yet. The one time i entered a SF sever, my graphics went to #### and the map was lame.edit: maybe ive just played with bad teams on wake, but every time ive tried it, i end up on the USA team and we cant even get on the beach. I actually like clean sweep when the game came out. I havent played it in a while. MAybe ill try it out in a little bit

SF is a graphics whore. Once you get it loaded though, my is it gorgeous to look at.For big maps, I like Dragon Valley a lot. Very well balanced, and the fighting seems to hinge on the left side of the lake due to the chopper pad. Wake is a blast, because it is vehicle heavy, but individual soldiers can make a huge difference, as well.

For cities, give me my Karkand and I am happy.

:goodposting: Any time you need a gunner for your copter let me know. I love to gun but I can't fly worth ####.

Kubra Dam: Takes a while to get used to the shortcuts from flag to flag but with the right squad you can get a convoy and really rack up the points. It also helps to have a good commander and good pilots to keep enemy air to a minimum.Cleen Sweep:MEC side is done if US can get to their main and the small airfield. A good US squadleader will take the airplane and parachute onto the building at the main and let the squad spawn in on him for a quick capture. US Side has the advantage but a good MEC squad at the main can keep the Commander in business which is a must on this map.My favorites are the city maps like Karkand, Mashtur, Sharqi.

I am always on the lookout for a good gunner. I had a crappy one last night.Last night when I tried to join you guys, I got disconnected, and jumped in an EA server. Only about 10 players. I got in a chopper with a dude and he took off to their carrier (Wake) since we had all of the control spots. We did a supreme spawn raping like no other. As soon as their AA gun would repair, boom with the radar-guided. gunned down craploads of them with the rotary. They started spewing profanity and I felt a little guilty, so I jumped out, killed a few by hand, then took one of their boats to the mainland. I did have a pretty good score that round and got the gold star, however.

Agreed, but clean sweep is worse. We were playing Sharqi but the next map in the rotation was Kubra. It's hard to beat Sharqi in my opinion, but I like all the city maps. I'll be on in a few hours for a bit.

I was playing Kubra Dam last night as a MEC Engineer. I had 2 tanks bearing in and blackhawk coming as I was capping a flag. Sensing my inevitable doom I managed to drop a couple of mines around the flag before I was blasted into oblivion. As I lay there I can see the two tanks turning the flag as the blackhawk lands right in between them landing on a mine, blasting all three of them to smitherines. It was soooo sweet.I also unlocked the sniper rifle yesterday. I was plaing MEC on Sharqi and was sniping at the main entrance flag. As an attack heli comes in to take the flag I zoom in on the pilot and let one fly. In taking out the pilot the heli slammed into the building killing the gunner as well.

I unlocked both assault rifles last night. I was hoping to get flash bangs, but apparently I had to unlock the Fx2000 first. Oh well. I don't ever use sniper or support, so that was the way to go.Does anyone think the SF Spec Ops one is better than the original unlock? I like the original, so have not unlocked the other even though I play a ton of spec ops.

I have Sp.Ops G36X, Engineer Jackhammer, Assault G3 and sniper guns M95 unlocked. I was displeased with the assault gun. I guess I was hoping for a grenade laucher or something special. Sp.Ops gun has been solid as has the Engineer shotgun(at close range). I dont run as Medic or Support that often so those will will be my last unlocks.

i like it better, but ive seen others who swear by the original unlock. All i know is ive had 3 35+ kill rounds since i unlocked it. its got more stopping power at close range

Interesting. The numbers are very close when you look at them, with only an 8% increase in damage for the SCAR over the G3 (spec ops), but the G3 is more accurate, and since I tend to take out my opponents from afar, that might be the better way for me.Either way, my next unlocks in 2900 points will be the new Spec Ops and the flash bang. :excited:

I mainly run Medic, Spec Ops and Anti-tank

What is the general strategy for Anti-Tank? If you hit the tank in the treads or rear, it does more damage, no? I have always wondered how I get aced in like 2-3 shots sometimes, and others not. What are the critical locations?

ive been playing with anti tank the past few days, and im not impressed. Ive had times times where ive hit the tank in the side or the treads 3 times and it doesnt even start smoking. Although its much harder, planting 2 C4's on it is far more effective

After reading a few threads, apparently the front treads = 2 shots and a dead tanker. I have always aimed at the side treads since knowing the locational damage, and done better. Rear is also less protected.

Good game, Joe. We finally got to silence the Pork one. :devil:Hope my chopper flying wasn't too hot shot for ya.

:) Great flying. You lined me up perfectly to pick off the infantry.

Your flying was great - except for the one part where you tried to fit between the two palm trees and we didn't fit. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

That was actually my little sister playing last night, and she still hung a bunch of points on you! :boxing: They really have to do something about the choppers though. I think a good solution would be to remove the reload delay from the anti aircraft guns. On a map like Sharqi, it's really the only chance you have of fighting the helis from the ground.

I did pick up a couple of ribbons last night, it has been a while since I won one. See you on later tonight.

I showed up way late to that game, and still did OK. Your team had 2 punks flying their chopper. When I had no gunner, it was a pretty close match between me and those 2. Once I had Gamerboy in the gunner slot, they were :own3d: My problem with choppers is I tend to fly them more like jets. I do a lot of turns and sharp moves, and am only now learning the subtleties of hovering and the like, and so it is getting better.I think that infantry types think that helos are too overpowered, until they jump in one and realize that the entire flight is basically trying to get a few points amidst a crapload of dodging missiles and small arms fire, not to mention other aircraft. If you are good in a chopper and get lots of points, it is because you deserve it. There is a ton of pressure on up there. The frigging AA alarm was on pretty much non-stop last night.

Just got a new high score, I believe. 108 on Karkand. Mainly Medic and Spec Ops. No armor to speak of.

The reason you kept getting the AA alarm is because I was keeping it on you guys so you would get the heck off my spawn points! I can't do that when the server is fully occupied. Here is a heli question. How do you control the video guided missles? I've never had a kill with one of those. Not one, even by accident.

*******! :hot:  ;) I kept flying all over like a madman. Of course, I knew when to release flares, as well. Only noobs release them right at the buzzer. You wait until the buzzer goes active that there is one in the air, then release them. I have flares hotkeyed to mouse 3 I use them so much.As far as radio controlled missiles, they are tough to control, but once you get it, they are so deadly. You can use them on Wake from the carrier and wreak havoc at the airbase, for instance (this is being addressed in patch 1.2, though). You have to lead whatever you are shooting at, then then you can make course corrections along the way by left-clicking.

started playing special forces tonight. I was very impressed. The maps are all very cool and more to my style of playing. Some close quarters combat with alot of mid range tactical shooting and flanking manuevers. The map with the train yard and chemical weapons factory(i think it was called mass destruction) was awesome. I really like ghost town too. Other than karkland, sharqi, mastuur and oman, i cant see myself playing too much regular battlefield anymore. IMO, they got the infantry/vehicle balance perfect in the expansion. The only problem i had was a slight performance issue. In the last round i played, i had some players teleporting 10-15 feet at a time. It cost me a few kills. My ping was under 40 and i was having no other problems. Very strange. Although i like how the game runs on my ATI 9600 XT AIW, i would love to get a big time card to really get the best graphical performance. Ive been playing alot more the last few weeks, and im really getting into itedit: anyone gonna buy the two booster packs that EA is releasing in february? I think i will buy the european invasion, but not the other one. $10 for a new army and some new maps seems like a decent deal to me.

SF has a crapload of issues which I hope they fix in the next patch. Load times absolutely blow, and the lag tends to be horrific at times. Love the graphical improvements, but I still prefer regular BF to SF. However, I might have to jump into a SF map or 2 tomorrow.I will be on tomorrow night if anyone wants to try to all jump into a server.

my load times have been fine, but i have 2 gigs of RAM. Just as i was raving about the game, i just got out of a game of ghost town where i died within 3 seconds of spawning 8 times in a row. Damn tanks

I have 2 gigs of RAM as well, but don't even consider changing your video settings. My optimization took 11 minutes with that game! :wall: :hot:  There are a lot of issues with SF, but I have enjoyed a few maps I have played, such as Iron Gator, Mass Destruction and one other I cannot remember. However, I am intrigued by the new packs. $10 each, huh? Not too bad. If there are new unlocks and crap, I would pay $10 for both just for variety. Anti-tank needs a good assault weapon, after all.

I play a lot more vanilla BF2 than BF2:SF. I get a lot more lag with SF and the load times drive me crazy   I agree that the new maps in SF are very good and the infantry / vehicle balance is very good, but I was losing too many kills due to lag and it drove me nuts.

I will be getting both of the booster packs when they are available.

Does anybody know if they are going to be like SF in that it is difficult to switch between SF and Vanilla BF2 or will the new stuff be seemlessly integrated into BF2?

The only problem i had was a slight performance issue. In the last round i played, i had some players teleporting 10-15 feet at a time. It cost me a few kills. My ping was under 40 and i was having no other problems. Very strange. Although i like how the game runs on my ATI 9600 XT AIW, i would love to get a big time card to really get the best graphical performance. Ive been playing alot more the last few weeks, and im really getting into it

edit: anyone gonna buy the two booster packs that EA is releasing in february?

I think EA needs to address this in a patch. Having to completely restart BF2 to get to SF or vice versa is ######ed. It should all be seemless, like it was with BF1942.

Here is some info on the booster packs. I actually loved the El Alamein and Gazala style maps of 1942, so the Armor booster is actually pretty exciting. I am pretty sure I will get both at only $10. SF should have been less. Too bad you cannot use ziplines and grappling hooks in regular BF2 maps.

As for the patch, it seems they are making some good moves here. They are even adding unlocks for sniper and AT classes.

Nice! I honestly think this is perfect, since IMO every class has a fantastic 'unlock' weapon aside from sniper & AT (that shotgun just doesn't do it for me). Also -- I just got SF but have not installed it yet - is lag/load time REALLY that bad?

Does the pope crap in the woods? Actually, for me, the lag was fine, but load times were awful.

However, I will say this. There is a huge graphics improvement with SF, as well. I thought some of the detail was amazing.

after the initial opimization(which was insanely long) i havent had a problem with load times. No longer than vanilla for me.I wont be getting the armor booster pack, as im not a big tank driver/whore. huge tank battles is not what i want out of this game. The euro booster sounds cool though.

Infantry is fun and all, but sometimes you just wanna go all out vehicular combat. El Alamein is my favorite map of all time for both 1942 and Desert Combat. It just comes down to adjusting to different styles. Me likey both.

to each his own i guess. the only i use APC's or tanks is if my team has no decent tank drivers and we are just being slaughtered by tanks and entire squads of infantry. I had a nice run the other night on mashtuur. Took the tank from the backyard flag and opened up on the mosque. Took out like 8 or 9 guys before i bought it. i realize thats not a great streak, but im pretty crappy with tanks and had no gunner

You realize that more and more that to be a good tanker, you need a gunner to protect your backside and keep the heads of the opposing AT guys down.

yup. i realize that. However, as i said, im a pretty lousy tank driver and dont find it all that fun. The only reason i drove a tank that night was because my team was a nightmate, and i saw a whole bunch of infantry with no armor to protect them. If there is a good gunner willing to man the machine gun, chances are there are much better tank drivers than me to drive him around.

Taking out tanks with C4 is my favorite thing to do in BF2. This is nothing more satisfying than popping out of an alley and blowing up two clan members who are raping one of the streets in karkand. They think they are invulnerable on one of the side streets and then BOOM, they are dead. 4 points for me.

edit: i think you should get extra points for blowing up a manned vehicle. maybe 1 pt for a jeep, hummer or Vodnik, 2 pts for a tank/apc and 3 for a chopper or plane.

True dat. Love me some C4 on tanks. Just need a teamate to provide cover fire to keep the gunner's head down.
