*****OFFICIAL FORMULA ONE GRAND PRIX THREAD***** (3 Viewers)

The post-season test happens Tuesday at Yas Marina. Sainz, Ocon and Hulkenberg will be driving for their 2025 teams but Hamilton is still bound to his Mercedes contract. Yuki will drive the Red Bull which should be fun.

The young drivers' session will feature a bunch of guys with previous FP1 sessions.

Great season everyone. Thanks to you that post updates on the silly stuff, and thanks Eephus as always for keeping us on top of the importance stuff and the lower series. It just occurred to me that this thread is pretty much the only reason I even check into the ffa any more. I tried to laugh emoji Eephus above and...where are the laughs?
Anyway, fun year, kinda frustrating as a closet Checo supporter obviously, but really looking forward to a competitive next season. And baseball. I'm ready for baseball. See you all in the spring!

Planning a trip to Italy next summer. Its our 20th anniversary. Our anniversary and the trip kind of sorta fall on the Imola race weekend. My lovely wife said it was cool if we went. She casually watches with me on Sunday mornings.

I've never been to a F1 race, haven't been to Italy either.

Any tips on race day? tickets? I've already looked and if we're blowing it out and having fun, the best seats in the grandstands by the grid are "only" $700-800. I'm pretty okay with that. That the best way to go?

I'm not pushing my luck in trying to do any other days. Just raceday.

No tips but keep us updated. I want to go to an F1 race, but may end up going to a European one as it sounds like all the US races are logistical nightmares and the European ones less so.

The responses to the pre-season poll begin on page 36 which means we made it through 20 pages this season. That's a far cry from the old days where it we could spend the whole season on 1-2 pages.

My results were way off except for Yuki beating Ricciardo. It was one of the more unpredictable seasons in memory, especially for being so deep into the set of technical regs.

Montreal is awesome

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONS TIME

1. Number of races (out of 24) that Verstappen wins
25....er I mean 21

2. Top five in drivers championship

 verstappen
Leclerc
Russell
Checo
Norris (would love Hamilton to be top 5 but if the season doesn't start strong that grip is gonna slip)

3. Top three in constructors championship

Haas....er Red Bull then Ferrari then Mercedes

4. Last place in constructors championship

Red Bull er I mean Haas. Though I think Haas will get twice as many points in the 2nd half as they do in the first half (0)

5. Will there be a first time GP winner (sprint races don't count so Piastri is eligible)

Naah. Though we can always hope for some Baku craziness
6. Any other fearless random predictions

Albon with a podium finish. Tsunoda with a top 5.

-QG

Ferrari screwed up my perfect score.

:bowtie:

-QG,

Perez always was a placeholder until the next crop of Red Bull juniors is ready. There was a lull in the program for a few years where Albon was the best graduate. Tsunoda was rushed to F1; he's quick but error prone. I don't know if he'll survive Honda's exit from F1.

Checo is 31 years old which puts him in the upper quartile of current F1 drivers. He's been decent but is still getting dominated by Verstappen on Saturdays.

The three top Red Bull prospects in the feeder series now are New Zealander Liam Lawson, Juri Vips from Estonia and Norwegian Dennis Hauger. I'd expect to see at least one of them in a Red Bull/Alpha Tauri by 2023. Hauger would be my top pick but I'm usually wrong.

Called this in 2021, except Hauger is racing Indy NXT for Andretti next season :bag:

I've been jonesing for some live racing action so I caught the end of the Formula E race from Mexico City today. The race streams live and commercial free on the Roku Channel of all places. They're also available on demand but with ads.

Formula E runs a shortened version of the F1 track with a right turn just past pit out and rejoining the circuit on the back straight. The series and EV technology have come a long way since they used to swap cars mid-race. It's still a gimmicky product with power boosts and temporary 4WD to promote passing. At least it's 20 more paying seats available for guys who didn't quite stick in F1 for whatever reason.

Daytona 24 hours is next weekend but we won't see the new F1 cars on track until the end of February.

Looks like Doohan has only signed a guaranteed deal for 1/4 season.

Colapinto has signed as a reserve driver for Alpine - upping the pressure.

Apparently, in testing, Doohan was 1-second slower than Gasly - so not much margin for error in the early going.

Mike Krack is out as team principal at Aston Martin. Andy Cowell who formerly ran the Mercedes AMG powertrains organization replaces him.

Just listed to podcast that said HAAS, for the first time, can have their drivers take part in the TPC practice with old cars. Pretty wild an F1 team took that kind of hit on just falling behind everyone.

Any other teams don’t take part in TPC?

I question the value of those programs, especially in a cost capped era. What are Lewis and Ferrari getting from him pootling around in a two year old car other than a photo op?

I suspect Haas would have run a TPC program funded by Dmitri Mazepin if 2021 hadn't been a Covid year. As I recall, Daddy Mazepin funded a test program at Force India to give Nikita seat time.

They said it’s a pretty big advantage, especially this year with this being the first time they can drive a car from the same regs they’re in now…especially guys moving teams. Also it’s good if there’s a new engineer because then they get to work with the drivers.

First glimpses of the 2025 cars are out in advance of the formal launch event in London next week. Differences from last year's car are very subtle as you'd expect so late in the tech cycle.

There's also been an unconfirmed report that ESPN isn't going to bid for the US F1 broadcast rights next year.

Loosely F1 related - but F1TV will lose one of its primary pit commentators this season - Will Buxton has moved on to Fox Sports to cover IndyCar.

I've preferred the F1TV crew over the Sky crew for a few years now, and Buxton was certainly part. I've not seen who is replacing him - of if they will use more of James Hinchcliff who I think was on a part-time deal last year.

ETA - NM - I see that Hinchcliffe will be working alongside Buxton on the FoxSports IndyCar coverage...

I'm expecting a lot of lame celebrity crap like a FIFA draw or NBA All-Star Saturday from tomorrow's F1 75 launch event. I'll probably still watch because I'm a nerd.

I've read each team has 7 minutes for their presentation, and they can do whatever they want with the time, and some are having bands perform? And this really to unveil the liveries..most won't unveil their real 2025 car until their own launches.

I'll watch anything once, but this has a chance at being not good. Same companies involved in producing the over-the-top Vegas intro thing before the first race there 2 season ago is putting this on too. :oldunsure:

That makes me so uncomfortable to watch. LOL

Is this F1 75 Live thing not airing on ESPN tomorrow? I don't see it in the listings on YoutubeTV. Wanted to record it to watch tomorrow night.

The ESPN app says it's on ESPN+.

It's also streaming live on the F1 YouTube channel so I assume it'll be there with less buffering when you get home.
