Haas also going with more white this year. I like it better than last year but it's not as good as Racing Bulls.

Alpine is still blue and pink but will probably be pink and blue for some races. Better than last year's paint by a wide margin.

New sponsor Eni on the airbox.

No INEOS branding on the Mercedes. It's silver where the red used to be. That's an improvement but not much else is changed.

Red Bull's hype movie has a convoy of lowriders, drift cars, motorcycles, stunt bikes, dune buggies, etc.

But the car looks exactly like last year's.

If they race like their paintjobs, Yuki and Racing Bulls will be world champions.

Alpine, Haas and Williams are clear improvements. I like Mercedes better without INEOS red.

Red Bull and McLaren are status quo. Sauber and Aston Martin made some minor tweaks that are OK I guess. The only change not for the better IMO is the blue dot Ferrari.

But all in all, it'll be a good looking grid this year without all the bare carbon fiber.

The other F1 adjacent news today was Logan Sargeant bailing on his 2025 sports car ride in the European Le Mans series.

His former team said he's taking a break from the sport while others are speculating he's a possibility for Cadillac's F1 or sports car programs or even an Indycar seat replacing Conor Daly who's lost his sponsorship.

They aren't replacing Daly with Sargeant until at least after Indy even if all of Connor's funding fell through. Sargeant at Indy would cost them a fortune in crash damage and he would be a favorite to miss the race whereas Daly has pretty good runs there.

I think the Sargeant to Indycar stuff was pure 2+2=5 speculation. Him stepping away from racing seems to be most logical explanation.

Timing is everything and it's too bad he was signed at a time when Williams was in a slump. Their 2025 car seems to be pretty racy based on the pre-season practice sessions.

So, after 3 days of testing, I don't think we really know any more than before testing.

If I had to guess, I would say its likely to be status quo - which makes sense in the last year of these Regs:

McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes - all competing at the top in some order

Big gap

Aston Martin, Alpine, Baby Red Bulls - in some order

Small gap

Williams, Hass, Sauber - in some order

Random observations

I don't like the Ferrari livery - too much white for the HP logo was distracting. Good for HP though

I did like the Baby Bulls new livery - also good for VISA.

Fascinating season, even if it's the last year of these regs - 10 drivers will be new to their respective teams. Obviously big story line should be Hamilton's move to Ferrari, but then secondarily all the rookies, and then the other veteran drivers who swapped teams.

If I had to guess today - I'd still favor Max to win the Driver's Championship, but Red Bull will not win the Constructors - Lawson won't fare much better than Checo, and likely to finish lower.

Constructors Championship - probably between Ferrari and McLaren - slight lean towards Ferrari.

Drivers:
1. Max
2. LeClerc
3. Norris
4. Hamilton
5. Russell

Constructors
1. Ferrari
2. McLaren
3. Red Bull
4. Mercedes
5. Aston Martin

I've read some testing reports that puts Williams higher in the midfield than TennesseeJed did. Red Bull supposedly looked twitchy and has some work to do before the flyaway.

In the two weeks before Melbourne we should formalize some kind of pre-season poll.

I think that is probably fair.

For me, I think Albon is on the hot seat this season - as much as you can have a hot seat at Williams. For the first time in his career he has an established veteran to push him, and so that could be to Williams benefit.

Albon is under contract through the end of 2026. Time flies as he already has over 100 F1 starts under his belt.

My understanding of the Colapinto to Alpine deal is that it's effectively a two year loan so he could be back in Williams' sights for 2027. Their top academy driver is Luke Browning who finished third in F3 last year and is moving up to F2 in 2025.

This is my annual recruitment post for MotoGP and some of the best racing anywhere. It features incredibly tough and brave athletes with cool but probably excessive technology. Ducati is dominant like Mercedes was in F1 a decade ago. Eight time champ Mark Marquez is back on the best equipment for the first time since 2019 but he'll have to beat his teammate Pecco Bagnaia who is a two time champ himself. Yamaha looks improved this year so the midfield battles will be tight. Hopefully Honda will stop embarrassing themselves.

MotoGP is really poorly marketed in the US. It has its third different US broadcaster in as many years. It's Fox Sports' turn this year on their lower tier channels and their app. Based on last night's sprint race, the races are shown commercial free but I'll miss last year's streams on Max. Fox isn't showing as much pre-race coverage or the Moto2 and Moto3 support series. The huge fields of kids on little 250cc bikes is a site to behold.

The season opening Thai GP is on tonight at 11:30PM Pacific. Guess I'm staying up late tonight.

This times 100.

You get a better sense of the insane speeds these bikes are doing compared to automobiles.
When people talk about advances in tech or the greatest invention ever, they almost never talk about tires.
What these tires do with the small contact they have with the track is something you have to see to appreciate.
