If Verstappen can make it through turn 1, he should still win on Sunday from row 3. He made two mistakes on his hot lap in Q3.

The top four teams are closer on qualifying pace than they've been all year but Red Bull Max is better over an entire tire stint until someone proves otherwise.

Tickets were out of control, tried to get last second stuff and struck totally out. They could do well to throw up some more grandstands out there.
 
Also, I'm still a clueless, relatively new F1 fan, but the fact that they only did post-race inspections on four of the cars (and DQ'd two of them) sucks.
 
Not practical to do all 20 cars every race. Likely something the technical director saw during the race that caused him to focus in on those four cars. Good explanation here in this article:

RB and McLaren likely set their ride heights a bit higher to take the bouncy nature of COTA into account (at least for Max and Lando's cars). Apparently Mercedes and Ferrari didn't (or at least not enough) for Lewis and Charles's cars. That Mercedes and Ferrari accepted these punishments tells me that possibly George and Carlos's cars likely had a similar issue, but they didn't want to risk any further scrutiny for those drivers. That's total speculation on my part though.

Was quite the drop from FP2 to FP3 for Leclerc. If they were experimenting with his setup, they need to go back.

Both Ferraris had problems with traffic on their hot lap on softs in FP3. I still don't think they have anything to challenge Red Bull (and Albon?) but they should make it to Q3

Charles 3rd fastest after the first go round on mediums is at least encouraging..
 
Ferrari will inevitably mess it up with an inexplicable strategy call tomorrow, and I predict Carlos and Charles both complaining on the radio at some point about how they are the faster car and should be allowed to pass the other.

I want a Danny Ricc podium, baby.
 
Another record-setting drive by Max, first driver to win 16 races in a season (breaking his own record of 15, set last year). Just an incredible run.

In other news, Sergio Perez is toast. P2 on it's way out the door, and with it likely his ride with Red Bull next season.

Great job by Lando today, going from starting in 17th position to finishing 5th.

The triple header ends this weekend at Interlagos. It's a sprint weekend which I didn't really care for before but I've come around since Max started winning everything.

The Grand Prix starts Sunday at noon Eastern; a very civilized hour unless you want to watch football.
 
The grid for Sunday will be scrambled up because of weather in Q3. Verstappen has been complaining a lot about grip but he'll still start from pole and probably be long gone when the lights go out. Both McLarens were quick but went out too late in Q3 and got caught out by the rain. They should move forward from P7 and P10. Aston Martin were the big winners today after last week's debacle in Mexico City. Both cars were able to get a clean lap in early in Q3 and will make up row two with Stroll P3 and Fred P4.

The most interesting thing left in the championship is the battle at the bottom of the constructors' championship. Williams, Sauber, AT and Haas could all end up anywhere between 7th and 10th which has huge ramifications for season prize money. Haas was quickest in qualifying but they've struggled with tire deg all year. Interlagos is a high deg track to begin with and the rains will have washed away all the accumulated rubber so it'll be a green track.
 
Saturday Sprint Race was fun with lots of overtaking. Not out front of course but midpack action was pretty crazy.

Yuki picked up three points for P6 and made legitimate passes on a Ferrari and a Mercedes.

I thought it was an unusually dull race by Interlagos standards. The battle for third between Alonso and Perez was pretty much the only redeeming feature of the race. The softs were the superior race tire which negated any alternate strategies.

Norris stayed close to Max but never threatened; until I actually see them going at it I assume Red Bull is just managing the pace.

I thought it was hilarious how excited the announcers got when Lando caught Max on like lap 3-4 and was running with him for a few turns. Within the next lap Max was +2 seconds ahead. :lmao: Like he just decided, "Ok Lando, you've had your fun."

It was the carcass of the tire, not the entire wheel assembly. I've read the carcass weighs about 20 pounds.

Former F1 driver Justin Wilson was killed in an Indycar crash a few years ago when he was struck in the head by the nosecone of a crashing car. The nosecone weighed less than half of the tire carcass but Wilson drove directly into it at high speed. The opening chicane in Sao Paolo is a second gear corner but the force was still enough to damage the rear wing on the Alpha Tauri. My guess is the halo would have protected Ricciardo but I'm glad we didn't have to find out.

My wife doesn't watch the races, but she was walking past during the start/first lap of one of the races about a month or so ago when I had it on, and she says..."wow..that announcer gets awful excited, doesn't he...".

Almost the same thing a few races back. had some friends over who weren't into F1. She said "Wow, he's very excited for it being the start of the race." :lmao:
 
Las Vegas GP week is finally upon us with controversy around local traffic disruptions, potential issues with low tire temperatures and an announcement from General Motors that they have applied to be an engine supplier in 2028.

There's also a celebrity golf event with Norris, Albon, Gasly and Sainz streaming live on Netflix starting in a couple of hours.
 
Here in Vegas, will be first race for me and 2 buddies. We are in the main grandstands so opening ceremonies and performances were included. The drone show was cool, the performances were quick. Hamilton and Russell were introduced on the stage directly in front of us, with Max and Checo on the stage to the left. So that was awesome, seeing those guys pretty close up.

Plenty of minor hiccups, technical glitches, and things not working right, as is to be expected with it being the first time. But all of the staff and volunteers have been very friendly and helpful.

The city overall seems to be handling things well, so far. But you could tell not many people came in yet as of yesterday. Today there was a noticeable amount of increased people and I imagine even more by Saturday. The street shutdowns also hadn’t started yesterday.

FWIW, the main grandstands looked to be about 80% full last night, with the Skybox and Paddock Clubs pretty packed.
