I said this in "The Nine" thread: I think TV critics missed the boat this season - and underrated "Heroes" and overrated The Nine.
I think it's an open question. After just the pilot's I would have rated The Nine as better than Heroes. Of course, most critics see at least the first four episodes, and by now it's become clear that The Nine's concept isn't particularly engaging. But I do think that The Nine is "better crafted" than Heroes. I like the concept of Heroes a lot. And because we don't have a real comic influenced show on right now, I don't particularly care that it's stealing concepts from just about every successful comic book, sci fi novel, or genre television show ever. I do think that, much like Lost, the premise is far stronger than the execution on Heroes. But Heroes is unapologetic pulp, so it's easy to overlook that. For instance, Heroes is every bit as cliched as Friday Night Lights, but FNL's cliches stand out more in the more "realistic" setting of the show.

Is that picture of Hiro from next week's preview? I watched the episode again and you can't see anything on the sword hilt, it is too dark.

I haven't watched FNL at all.Which show has the hotter cheerleaders?

Interesting take. I'm not a comic fan, so I don't really recognize that Heroes is largely comprised of retread and cliche in the comic world. In that sense, I guess I'm part of the "mainstream," which makes up most of the major network audience. But it also seems that comic fans seem to be enjoying the series as well.

The show's creator was not a comic book reader. I hear he sat down with his comic book :nerd: friends and brainstormed superpowers with them. He'd say something like, "Hey, how about a guy who can control metal and magnetic forces?" and they would all laugh and tell him about Magneto. He'd :wall: and try again.

A couple thoughts on Issac.1) Did he paint the comic book while high? Maybe he did, but it didn't seem like it. If not, that demonstrates he can see the future without shooting up first2) He told Simone that he sketched the pic of her & Peter under the umbella weeks ago, but if I recall, he started sketching it after she broke up with him
1. Don't know.2. I thought he said seven weeks ago.
1. I don't know, but he doesn't know the comic is true. He just knows the paintings are. I think he can do it without the drugs. It's easier with the drugs cuz it taps into his unconcious.

I found this picture on another message board. Interesting.
Love the show. Let me in on the secret of the symbol on what appears to be Hiro's sword. Not into Japanese hiro-glyphics. (pun intended)
We don't really know what the symbol means. So far it has appeared on the following:* mysterious black dudes necklace

* Niki's shoulder, as a tatoo (although it might only show up when she is her alter-ego)

* Hiro's sword from the future

I am probably missing a few other instances.
The half-helix symbol is also the logo for the comic book company that Isaac draws for and that Micah was reading. The comic is called 9th Wonders. You can see the top part of the cover at www.9thwonders.com

Exactly. There is nothing they could have come up with where some comic book geek wouldn't say oh it's just a combination of this guy and that guy. Might as well just embrace the genre and take the best parts for your show.

Does anyone know where I can download previous episodes? NBC's Heroes download site requires a particluar Intel CPU type which I don't have (more proof that Intel is the devil).

Optimally, I'd like to rip them to DVD so I can watch them on my TV. TIA.

some very interesting teasers at the end of the 'marathon. tonight...including two possible new characters:

1) a guy in a jail suit that is making a glass of water boil

2) a blonde with cropped hair, standing in front of something on fire, that I don't remember seeing before...?

Very excited for the next episode...

I was just checking the NBC site, and the characters pages all have links to a write-up about them, and a short video clip. The cheerleaders page has a hidden link to her MySpace page. Under favorite movies she lists 'Unbreakable'. :lmao:

@l3X is going to have a rude awaken when he realizes T.V. <> Reality.Until then...

So, if you watched the upcoming weeks preview clip that they showed at the end of the marathon, you might have noticed who was with the Horn Rimmed Glasses guy when he went to ask the Artist for help.

It was the shorthaired chick that's been hanging around Mohinder. It looks like the "she's a spy" speculation is on point.

See the full video of Hiro's and Peter's conversation HERE!

Of course, it is spoilerific. Its the first 2 minutes of tonights episode.

ETA: There are several clips from tonights show available.

Stargate:SG-1 has been stealing concepts for the past 4 seasons or so.

Some of the message boards has labeled Micah as being like Forge from X-Men. I can see that....the brilliant ability to make all kinds of inventions out of anything.

If any of you guys go to the heroes website you can read Hiros blog...he talks about how hes not able to hold time still for more than 20 seconds...so hes still developing.

I liked this episode a lot. We did not see any of the Simone chick which was a good thing because, after watching this episode, she inhibits movement to a point.

Mohinder was not stuck in his apartment clawing over crap his neighbor chick keeps wanting him to do. Mohinder is a good character but we have not seen him out of his apartment much.

We did not see much of Claire but the parts we did see were good. Her dads friend OWNED the QB. I think Claire knows more about her dad then we are led to believe. Or, it could be simple teenage growth as well.

I just love the connections on this show...i love how its ends with Peter giving Hiro the message he recieved from Hiros future self.

I dont think they are using cliches at all but it was funny to see Hiro's friend show up at Nikki's house... :bye: Does Isaac's power = Peter's power????

I have to believe there more to Isaacs power...i cant believe he has to take Heroin just to use it. Im guessing with time he can being to see the future minus painting and drugs.

Yeah, I could see that. And, I think if each character knew with confidence that they had a power they are better off using it. Isaac has been in denial of his because he has not been given reinforcement of it until Peter gave him some reinforcement. Than, seeing Peter use his that opened up Isaac's eyes a bit more as he seemed calmer after it.Nathan has known of his power for some time and has used it before and it appeared he has more control over it compared to the others we know. He is a little cocky about it but confident nonetheless.

My thoughts are that Sylar has some kind of debilitating disease thats slowly killing him ala that disease Cable had and he needs Claires Wolvie-like healing abilities to keep himself alive and possibly immortal, thus leading to that catastrophic NYC blast.

Similar to the X-Men movie with Rogue helping Magneto gain power. But even more similar to Lord Voldermort trying to capture the Philosopher's Stone. :nerd:

As for ripping off of comics...when u do a show about superpowered humans...its impossible not to. everything has been done to death in the comic book world and stories always get recycled and rehashed so its inevitable that this show in essence rips straight from the comics, its hard to come up with original powers that havent been done before.
