I dont think it is a showcase of her powers. I think it shows what she did though. Claire walked through fire without getting injured... I dont think she will be able to control fire or anything like that. That is what I get from the picture.
I think Claire might have the firepower already...Look at her hands. Also claire has bled when falling from the high catwalk and her ribs were poking out. But when she was in the fire, NOTHING. I think she has something to do with fire. The picture shows here in Psylocke-style pose with something near her hands. Maybe it's just me.
In order to have a fire person there needs to be an ice person... seeing that the one body was frozen solid gives credence to your theory. To me, the things by her hands are pom-poms because she is a cheerleader. To go on this point as well though... the artist paints the future but does not tell it. Sure, someone could read his paintings and conclude stuff is going to happen but lets look at Hiro for this example. The painter drew the comic book and Hiro... supposedly... transports 5 weeks in advance. The comic book was published the week or two BEFORE that happened. Hiro sees what has already happened. I think the same is with Claire... he saw her walk through fire and painted such... he was not saying she had the power of fire. Plus, she already has one power of healing... unless she knows more about her power then we are lead to believe... a maturation of powers of sorts.
Didn't think of them as Pom Poms.

As a note on the freezing, the Artist wasn't frozen when Hiro found him brainless, so it might not be Sylar who did the freezing. The dead man might have been the one who froze his own body, hence the reason for Sylar de-braining him.
That would be a twist for sure wouldnt it... one that does make sense. If that is the case I wonder what the other powers the dead people had with their brains taken? Wait and see I guess.

In looking at the 9th wonder cover I noticed two things. 1. The publisher is helix comics2. The logo closely resembles a DNA strand missing one side.So I assume the people we are following in the series are genectically altered as part of an experiment. Didn't the phone message to the Dad say something about you made me?
there's a post there that disputes this. something about their powers more being from an ability to use more than 10% of their brain power. the villain (syler?) has been stealing brains. if it was dna/rna based, he would only need their blood. :tinfoilhat:
An earlier post here mentions it was in the data feed, pool, etc. So where they able to use more than 10% of the brain? Also, just because syler is taking the brains doesn't mean it's related to the orginal outbreak of the mutations.I'll have to go read the other board to see what they have going.
just went back and watched part of it. the professor actually does mention something about dna. :bag:

Surprised no one mentioned this link: LINK

She sure doesn't seem like a good person to me, and to be honest, something struck me as odd last night. The scene with her and the artist made me think she was a "bad guy." Unfortunately, with the comics being available, I am sure the real bad guys, if she isn't, would be able to find him easily.

I wonder if NBC at first dibs on this show or if other networks passed on it. Anyone know?
It looks like they are working closely with the SciFi channel on this. SciFi is showing reruns on Friday nights and I noticed there was some SciFi advertising on the show tonight.
I don't think that they are working together, but it is some sort of corporate synergy. Sci Fi aired Surface last year, and I think Heroes is probably being cross promoted as part of the same deal.As for tonight's ep, I was mostly thinking that this ep wasn't quite as strong as the first one, but the finale with Hiro blew that thought out of the water. Very nice ending.

I'll watch it again, but I'm assuming everyone caught the painted symbol they flashed in Isaac's loft was repeated in the pool in L.A. and in the data flashing across the screen of Mohinder's computer. Was it anywhere else?

Another note I will mention is I think the scoring for this show is outstanding. It adds a nice emotional tone to the show that isn't a Super Hero Action Theme.

Story wise, Claire's is still hitting the right tone to me, and is the most complete. It even gives her a reason to turn Super Hero as she seemed very happy to hear she saved someone's life. Mohinder's also working well, if a little vague. The cop seems forced in right now, the brothers are still annoying, and the artist is way too stereotypical for psychics. Hiro is an unknown this week, as he got a lot of screentime, but it was all story based, not character intro. But it does give a good future motivation, which works.

Based on the strength of these two eps, this will be one of only 2 shows I will definitely watch the night of regularly (Lost the other), rather than Tivoing 2 or 3 weeks for a marathon like I do on some others.
Corporate synergy no doubt. You guys do realize that NBC bought Universal which in turn owns Sci-Fi, right? And of course, General Electric (used to work there a while ago) owns NBC.

Here's a couple things I've been thinking about:

1. The girl who saved Mohinder from the plumber could be an agent working with Claire's dad. They couldn't figure out the research, so she was planted as the friendly neighbor who conveniently finds the hard drive to see if he can figure it out for them.

2. Niki's son will end up being a vital character, much like Walt in Lost. I believe he has a talent as well, that is somehow tied to his IQ/being able to build a motherboard for his computer.

3. As much as I like the show so far, I serioulsy hope the take it in a direction as far away as possible from X-Men, Lost and 4400. Right now there are so many similarities it almost feels like plagarism.

totally agree. either that or he'll grow up to be the leader of a debarge cover band.

100% with you. the disparate characters coming together, broken chronology, the hidden symbols...serious rip-offs. i'm still enjoying it nonetheless.

I'm glad they showed what could happen. I'm really interested in seeing who Sylar is. Also, I like Claire's character but I have a feeling she's gonna have to kill her dad and won't be able to do it.

Watching it again and just an observation right now that was only on for a second.

The two henchmen that were killed... the big dude was cut in half from the waste down.

When Niki is going to get her kid she is wearing a white top... when she is "awoken" by the phone ringing she is wearing a red top... 4 hours later.

The comic strip Hiro sees before finding Mr. Isaac is what we see at the end of the show. He is on the phone and is told it is November 8th. The last picture is of him in disbelief with no more drawings after that.

Mohinder's father "helped to discover the potential of Sylar" but he did not make him. Mohinder's father wanted to see what the potential was just like Sylar wanted too.

The lizard just happens to drop a book or make enough noise to be found out and then placed into his cage where the Flash Drive is found. **The lizard is someone similar to Wormtail in Harry Potter**

The cartoon the Fly Boy was drawing while in the hospital showed him walking off the roof but floating while doing it just like when he was talking to his brother near the end of the episode.

Here's another thing ... not sure if I'm right and if it's relevant ... but the pistol the "exterminator" pulled on Mohinder and the pistol Hiro found in Isaac's place looked like the same make. Any chance of "standard issue" sort of thing? Connection between the two?

Just looking it over and they look similar. We see them at different angles and I am going to say the gun Hiro had was longer. Both silver, and looked to both have a black handle but the girl is holding it and we dont see it long either. Good catch though.

I just finally saw the first two episodes. So now we have:

Matt and Milo - the two brother that have the ability to fly.

Claire - high school cheerleader with regeneration ability (ala Wolverine)

Hiro - Japanese(?) teleporter

Isaac - artist who draws/paints what he envisions, but turns out to be visions of the future

Matt - Police officer with telepathic powers

Nikki - mother with multiple personality disorder

I don't know if I missed anyone (I'm not including the doctor, cheerleader's dad, or anyone that's not thought to have "abilities"), but one of these things is not like the other. I like Ali Larter as much as the next guy, but when does a multiple personality disorder become an "ability" that one attributes to being a hero? (note: I'm no doctor, so I may not be diagnosing it properly, however my wife, my friends I work with and her friends are all thinking the same thing) I'm sure this will be explained to us in upcoming episodes, but I'm confused has hell right now.

Still a good show and keeping my Monday night's very full with Studio 60, Prison Break, How I Met Your Mother, and the return of 24 in January. (Thank God I upgraded to a 2-tuner Tivo - anyone interested in my old one?)

Telekinesis is the ability move things with your mind. The guy on the show has telepathic powers. Also, quite obviously, Nikki has more than a personality disorder. Her alter ego is able to rip large men limb from limb.

Sorry, I was correcting the "telekinesis" thing as you were correcting me. It's edited above. And so far, in three forums I've posted this question in, you're the only one to give me an explanation, albeit, I'm not sure how much of a "hero" that makes Niki. As I mentioned before, we'll see how it goes. I'm intrigued with this show. Those bastards at NBC!

Nikki appears to have a power loosely based on one of the characters from DP7 - from Marvel's short-lived New Universe. Antibody had a sort of bad-assed replicant of himself that could fly and such, but originally he could only release it while he was unconscious. I'm guessing that's what's happening here.

Watched Ep1 again last night. This thing (uluru) was on Hiro's computer screen at the beginning of the ep and also the kid was reading a 9th Wonders magazine while his mother was talking to the guy at the school. The magazine had this same image/character on the cover.

someone over at 9thwonders.com came up with a interesting idea. What if Peter really can't fly? He only uses the powers of those that he comes in contact with ala Rogue. His brother told him that after his brother caught him, that was when he flew. And he also touched the psychic and then having visions. But then again he also had visions before he visited the psychic.

Also about that Simone pic...she does look a little evil there. Hmmm....

He walked off that ledge and levitated without any interaction with his brother.

He had already "flown" with his brother earlier.

That said, I don't think he's a Rogue type character.

Dont know if this was mentioned - but I couldnt figure out where I knew Ali Larter from. An image search reveals she's the whipcream bikini girl from Varsity Blues.

I don't think the analogy holds except for the unconscious part. His alter ego was a completely separate part of himself and he could create multiple replicas all with their own distinct personalities (each on was like a slice of himself).

In Ep1 at one point Nikki is looking at herself in the mirror and her son calls for her. She leaves the shot but the reflection remains for a second before also leaving the shot. At the time, I thought she might have super speed (this was before she killed the mafia thugs).

Yeah, but not at first. At first, there was just the one (until it "died"). It was very similar in personality to the one she's got. We could be seeing the very beginning of her power, just like we did his for the first several issues of DP7.Also, I think hers is a separate part of herself... I think that'll come out soon enough.

Was getting a haircut today and they had the new TV Guide magazine there. They had a two-page layout about the characters. They even went into some spoilers. So if you don't want to read, stay away...SPOILERS

Peter is like Rogue. He absorbs people powers. Also the stripper's kid also has powers, as does his daddy.

Thanks for the spoiler! It's interesting what he will be able to do. Sucks really if he doesn't have anyone's powers to absorb.BTW FBG edicate dictates that you WHITE OUT THE SPOILER in case people don't want to read it. TIA. :D

Without spoiling anything, be prepared to be much more thoroughly grossed out by Claire next week.
WTF, go ahead and spoil us ;) Just be sure to put in "hidden"
Okay. Keep in mind, this is from a new spoiler source for me, so I can't say its valid:
Claire gets raped by the highschool qb, and her head is smashed in during it. At the end of the episode she wakes up and she's been autopsied. She starts picking up her organs and putting them back in herself.

Possibly.I've only seen this spoiler in 1 place, and I don't know the guys credibility.

We'll see. If this is accurate, I'll certainly pay close attention to this guy going forward.

That doesn't seem possible considering her abilities. She'd heal up to quick to perform it.

 Maybe she has to be concious to heal? People keep thinking that she is exactly like Wolverine, but we don't know that at all. If the spoiler is accurate, we'll be seeing that her power is somewhat different.

Would have thought that one of the six falls she took would have knocked her unconscious... or the hit by the football player.Doesn't feel right to me, have to wait and see.

Claire gets raped by the highschool qb, and her head is smashed in during it. At the end of the episode she wakes up and she's been autopsied. She starts picking up her organs and putting them back in herself.
Good point.Hmmm.

I'm going to tag this spoiler as 85% chance of being total BS.

BTW - When Claire was hit by that football player and her neck snapped around :X Not fun to look at.
Without spoiling anything, be prepared to be much more thoroughly grossed out by Claire next week.

Sorry Hulk, I agree with this man. First of all, I think that is way, way over the top for a few reasons:
1. Why is a rape with bashing the head in necessary?

2. Why is an autopsy with her putting her organs back in necessary?

3. They have already shown the QB to be compassionate and pretty nice, i.e. checking on her after she got hit.

4. This reeks of someone trying to throw out an outlandish spoiler to see how far it gets.
It may well be true and I will definitely remember this, but it just seems way, way out there and the QB (unless the QB is not the guy who seemed to show interest in her, which her cheerleader friend was jealous of) seemed like a nice guy to try and force that story line.

Maybe he is referring to her head getting bashed in. Remember that she has healed in a matter of seconds after every injury.
