And NC just turned blue again on 538
Clinton is actually up slightly more in the polls-only forecast than in the now-cast, which is interesting. Usually whoever is leading in the polls has a much larger lead in the now-cast. Apparently the model is expecting the race to move a bit more in her direction by next week.

538 has been saying since the Comey letter that the polls will capture the reaction, but it happened too late to capture the reaction to the reaction.  Silver expects a late slight bump to Clinton.

The next article is going to be really damning.  I hear it's going to include a section that confirms that Ferris passed out at 31 flavors last night.  I guess it's pretty serious.

Just saw an official Trump commercial that said Hillary's emails went to Weiner. That isnt even close to a known fact right now and is an outright lie at this point.

"This idea that indictments are near is just not true," said Pete Williams re FBI and Clinton.
Peter Paulson@mindofmilton

@Tom_Winter the FBI has interviewed Clinton Cash author 3 times... is that "preliminary"?
Tom Winter@Tom_Winter 53m53 minutes ago
Tom Winter Retweeted Peter Paulson

Yes. Agents often interview potential witnesses or informants many times to test credibility and obtain information in prelim phase.

Like the Manafort inquiry the Clinton Foundation preliminary inquiry has not gone beyond that point, to date, sources tell Pete Williams.
"Inquiry". Ok.

There's a Manafort investigation and there is a Foundation investigation. These things are going on.

I still don't think the Comey letter has made any real difference at all, EXCEPT for the fact that it has taken Trump out of the spotlight, which helps him whenever that happens. I think you're correct and that she surges this weekend as people remember who it is they might be voting for.
If it doesn't matter, why are establishment types bent out of shape that he did it?  Those singing his praises just a couple weeks ago want him burned at the stake.  Why?

This marks the first, and likely the last, documented instance of Trump and his campaign being factually incorrect.

NBC News just said on their nightly news that the investigation into the Clinton Foundation "has been going on for months and hasn't moved an inch." Doesn't sound at all accurate according to what I've read here and elsewhere.

https://www.wired.com/2016/06/civis-election-polling-clinton-sanders-trump/

The classic pollster’s technique known as random digit dialing, in which firms robo-dial phone after phone, is failing, because an ever-dwindling number of people have landlines. By 2014, 60 percent of Americans used cell phones either most or all of the time, making it difficult or impossible for polling firms to reach three out of five Americans. (Government regulations make it prohibitively expensive for pollsters to call cell phones.) And even when you can dial people at home, they don’t answer; whereas a survey in the 1970s or 1980s might have achieved a 70 percent response rate, by 2012 that number had fallen to 5.5 percent, and in 2016 it’s headed toward an infinitesimal 0.9 percent. And finally, the demographics of participants are narrowing: An elderly white woman is 21 times more likely to answer a phone poll than a young Hispanic male. So polling samples are often inherently misrepresentative.

Since our model's been bullish on Trump's chances lately, some slightly better news for Clinton... (1/

The now-cast held steady today at Clinton +3.0 instead of moving toward Trump.

Maybe a sign that Comey stuff has been fully priced in. (2/

The context of my statement "it didn't matter" was specific to the effect on polling and the election. According to most of what I've read it has no or very little effect on that, which was all I was referring to. Whether or not what Comey did matters to the larger issue (FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton) is another matter entirely and one in which I'm not prepared to pass judgment.

Pete Williams says that the tensions between agents and the DOJ administration described in the WSJ were true. He seemed to be contradicting Fox more than Comey or the WSJ.

Right. Basically my understanding of  what happened is this book, Clinton Cash came out which made all kinds of suggestive charges without evidence that the Clinton Foundation was taking money in exchange for favors- but there was no quid pro quo (there rarely is with the Clintons- these things are almost impossible to prove. )

So some FBI agents read the book and said "we need to investigate this more," and some of their superiors read it and said "it's suggestive but there's no real evidence here," and the two groups disagreed, and so far that's been the whole extent of the "investigation". There really has been no investigation, much less imminent indictments.

Yes, Tim, good summary, that's exactly what happened.

This is like a rerun. Almost the same time of year too.

The WSJ reported that the Foundation investigation team made two attempts to obtain data from the SDNY & EDNY US Attorneys offices just this month.

You need a lot more dings!, though, in order for this to change the outcome of the previous investigation. First you need some classified materials. Then you need some sort of admission of deliberate knowledge and intent.
Ok let me back up.

Let's just talk about what we know is happening.

The national security investigation is ongoing and it has new data.

It also has a new situation in that data is in one more unauthorized location (laptop) and maybe another (printouts at home), and then the technical issue as to why Abedin was printing at home.

I'm guessing that must be one nasty paperjam at State.

eta - IMO for right now this is about Abedin, not Hillary.

CBS News reporting emails on Carlos Danger's computer related to Clinton while SoS and are different than the ones they have from her server.

Ding!
Is this somehow surprising?  I would have expected a wife to email her husband from any and all of her accounts and not consider those emails "work related" even if discussing her employer.  How is this not the default position for thoughtful people?  Maybe there is more to them once they are looked at closer, but just this gets you excited?

If your default position is "Hillary is lying," you'll be right more often than not.

Yeah? Some people are surprised? See a couple comments further up?

You think this is just Abedin talking to Weiner about Hillary?

Oh ok.

Didn't hillary say that she turned over all work related emails.

If they find new emails that are work related,  thats obstruction of justice.   There is your "some sort" of admission of  intent.

Wouldnt you agree?

I have to think if we know exactly what is impacting the polls we should have a list.  You know the difference between causation and correlation.  Do we have that list and how is that known?

By the way, I don't disagree that it SHOULDN'T matter, but there are a lot of bent out of shape people out there.

Anthony - I will be home around 11, Hillary is being such a #### today ...that is what CBS is terming as emails related to Hillary Clinton's tenure as secretary of state?

I'm not going to make the leap that this report means they found classified emails to or from Hillary on Weiner's laptop and at the end of the day what they find perhaps could look bad but not change the dynamic of their investigation but seems a stretch to think that CBS is reporting on emails from Huma to her husband.

It's a coup!  The FBI is going to get them all on Rico charges.  There is enough already with the Podesta leaks.

I've been telling you for over a year that this is why "appearance of impropriety" is such a big deal, and why it ought to swing the burden of proof to the person who has the conflict of interest.  And you've kept pretending not to understand that the entire time.

JFC.  I'm glad you finally get it, but sheesh.

For those of you worried that Trump will be an irrational & lead our country into danger.  Rest assured the good folks in the intelligence community will never let that happen.  If they can take down the Clinton Crime Syndicate, they can take down anyone.
