Initially officials were told there were 14 bankers boxes of former Secretary of State Hillary

CLINTON' s emails at CLINTON' s Friendship Heights office. Later, officials were told that the boxes

would be picked up from Williams & Connolly, LLP. On or about December 5, 2014, personnel

picked up only 12 bankers boxes of CLINTON' s emails from Williams & Connolly. REDACTED and

other IPS officials were not sure if the boxes were consolidated or what could have happened to the two

other boxes. The boxes were labeled with date ranges, which were accurate for the most part. Some of the

documents were filed out of order REDACTED opined the documents were pre-arranged differently than

one would expect if the documents were simply printed out and then stacked into the boxes.

IPS personnel provided copies of the documents to STATE' s Bureau of Legislative Affairs, Office of the Legal Adviser,

and the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs.

REDACTED believed there was interference with the formal FOIA review process. Specifically, STATE's Near East Affairs bureau upgraded several of CLINTON's emails to a classified level with a

B(1) release exemption, REDACTED long with REDACTED's attorney, Office of Legal Counsel called
STATE' s Near East Affairs Bureau and told them they could use a B(5) exemption on an upgraded email to protect it instead of the B(1) exemption. However, the use of the B(5) exemption, which is usually used for executive privilege-related information, was incorrect as the information actually was classified and related to national security, which would be a B(1) exemption.

I think aside from all the other possibilities it is really just most likely that Trump enjoys being on the road or at home doing luxurious things instead of spending the time and effort doing homework.

While I rail on our gov't a good bit even I see the difference between the structure of the GOP nomination process and how our federal government is structured.  They aren't comparable IMO...not a fan of that analogy.  The demographic of who votes in a primary vs the general election alone forces me to reject the analogy.  That along with the reality that the GOP doesn't have to abide by the popular vote makes it tough to consider.  I do agree that no one should vote for Trump....no one.  But that's not going to happen.  We have some really really stupid people in this country.  You don't have to worry, I will NOT be voting for him.

It wasn't so much an analogy as a more general argument that we keep hearing about things that will stop him and nothing has yet.  There's now one very clear way we can all come together to stop him. We should do it.

Also I think the Post wrote this editorial in today's paper just for you ;)

Fear mongering is not the way to reach me GB....you should know that by now.  Should he be voted into office somehow, two extremes exist:

1.  He reveals that everything he's presented thus far is a big #### show pandering to the lowest of the low in ways we've never seen before and he blindsides them with a 180 change in direction.

2.  He affirms what he's been saying all along, attempts to actually move forward with his crazy.  The American people stand up and tell him to pound sand and he's removed from office.

The positive I take from this whole experience is the light being shown on what drives the primaries, who votes in them and why they should be changed.  I'd be hugely disappointed if both groups don't look at this fiasco and take steps to fix our primary processes.  It's clear they need to be more transparent and that they need to do A LOT more to get people engaged earlier in the election cycles.  This includes getting people involved in their local races as well.  Otherwise, the extreme "bases" of these two parties are going to feel more and more entitled and the candidates are going to get worse and worse (if that's even possible anymore).  They will become so unhinged it won't be easy to tell them apart in any practical terms.

Problem is that the interests that have the reigns aren't interested in reforms.  They're more content knowing how to game the system and play to ignorance and emotion.  Enlightenment is danageous and difficult to control.

What are you even talking about.  Remove him from office, how?  If you are talking about impeaching him, he's going to have a Republican House.  If you're talking 4 years from now, you're talking about 4 years where he signs everything Ryan sends him and then some.  

Yes there are checks and balances, but quite a few of them won't be in place especially if Republicans control both house of Congress.

Well I sure hope you're right and virtually every major American newspaper and foreign and domestic policy expert who has spoken on the subject is wrong when they warn about the massive dangers of a Trump presidency. But I'm still gonna spend the next month doing what I can to see that we never have to find out.

And this is where WE come in.  There's no question the establishment types don't want change, but we get say in the matter.  The GOP is on tilt right now because conservatives don't feel like their reps are listening to them.  The dems have begun down that track and their feelings have been confirmed based on the shenanigans that occurred in the primaries.  Their eyes are being open to the reality that the field is not level.  It's on the voters to demand that the field be level.

So?  If we are to believe what people are saying, not even the GOP likes him.  I don't see this being a problem.  By all accounts, there is a very tiny group of people in Washington that can even stomach him, much less support him.  I don't think, for a second, that if he somehow became President everyone and anyone would be looking for the first opportunity to kick him out knowing Pence would be his replacement.  Of course, it's all theoretical.  He's not going to be President.

You mean this guy?...Trump has already neutered the entire Republican establishment in Congress.  Literally neutered.  He'll be happy to primary any of them in 2018.

Paul Ryan may not like him personally, but he sure seems excited about the prospects of his presidency. For the legislative reasons noted in that article, as well as the immense damage it would do to the GOP to cop to the severity of their error, they would be in no hurry to remove a President Trump.

Trump has problems with the party base, basically the predictions of division about Obama/Hillary 08 and Hillary/Sanders 16 have come true for Trump. So yeah FO's get the base out and he doesn't even have that to compensate. If Trump is going to challenge he will have to do it with non-Republicans including indies and Democrats. He's been short on ads on that front. Trump has alienated the most motivated in his own party and he has done little to actually get the unmotivated to the polls on the day it counts. He does have a natural advantage of an electorate that was probably ready to switch horses but he has shown the same preparation for take advantage of that that he has for the debates, that is to say almost none.

I'm not sure I ever said that the GOP wouldn't be happy with a GOP President that was behaving and doing what they wanted :shrug:  My comments above were in the event Trump went off the rails in the Armageddon scenario many are envisioning.  It is far FAR more likely that we'd have to be concerned with what the House could do with Trump as President than we'd have to be concerned with what Trump would do, himself, as President.  Few people talk about it from that perspective for whatever reason.

WASHINGTON—Newly disclosed emails show top Obama administration officials were in close contact with Hillary Clinton’s nascent presidential campaign in early 2015 about the potential fallout from revelations that the former secretary of state used a private email server.

Their discussion included a request from the White House communications director to her counterpart at the State Department to see if it was possible to arrange for Secretary of State John Kerry to avoid questions during media appearances about Mrs. Clinton’s email arrangement.

In another instance, a top State Department official assured an attorney for Mrs. Clinton that, contrary to media reports, a department official hadn’t told Congress that Mrs. Clinton erred in using a private email account.

... The emails highlight the revolving door between the State Department, the White House and the Clinton campaign in early 2015 as Mrs. Clinton geared up to run for president. The New York Times reported on March 2, 2015, that Mrs. Clinton had exclusively used a private email server for government business when she was secretary of state. That set off months of controversy for Mrs. Clinton’s campaign, culminating in a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe that recommended against prosecution of Mrs. Clinton.

Ten days after the story broke, White House communications director Jennifer Palmieri emailed State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki to ask, “between us on the shows…think we can get this done so he is not asked about email.” That apparently referred to Mr. Kerry, who appeared in an interview on CBS ’s “Face the Nation” three days later.

Ms. Palmieri had previously announced she would be leaving the administration to join Mrs. Clinton’s campaign in mid-2015, but was still at the White House when she sent the email. Other emails show Ms. Palmieri helped arrange for Ms. Psaki to move from the State Department to the White House communications job Ms. Palmieri was vacating. “Agree completely and working to crush on my end,” wrote back Ms. Psaki, who would move to the White House weeks later.




 




A day later, Ms. Psaki added, “Good to go on killing CBS idea.” She continued, “And we are going to hold on any other TV options just given the swirl of crap out there.” Mr. Kerry wasn’t asked on CBS about the email server, though it isn’t clear how Ms. Psaki could have guaranteed that.

Teased by Ms. Palmieri about her use of the phrase “swirl of crap,” Ms. Psaki wrote back: “Ha I mean—the challenging stories out there.”

In another email coming from the State Department, Patrick Kennedy, the undersecretary for management, told Heather Samuelson, one of Mrs. Clinton’s attorneys, about new documents the State Department had posted concerning the former secretary of state.

Ms. Samuelson was one of the attorneys who reviewed Mrs. Clinton’s emails to determine which were government-related and which were personal before providing the official ones to the State Department. She was interviewed by the FBI as part of its probe and granted limited immunity in exchange for turning over her laptop as part of the investigation.

In another exchange, Mr. Kennedy told Ms. Samuelson that Politico was “running [a] story that State official said Secretary Clinton did wrong thing. Wildly inaccurate reporting.”

A Politico spokesman said the organization stood by its reporting. The story reported that Joyce Barr, assistant secretary of state for administration, had said in testimony to Congress that Mrs. Clinton’s record-keeping practices were “not acceptable.” An internal watchdog report later concluded that Mrs. Clinton’s email use wasn't permitted under State policy.

- Well I guess it is not too surprising that State and the Hillary campaign were communicating. In the FBI interview notes the FBI was told that State was pressuring Foia reviewers to change classifications, ie classify them down.

Wait....Cruz is part of the GOP establishment?  By the way, aren't we holding the people who cast a vote for Trump responsible for voting for Trump?  Do we have the voting records of the House to assign appropriate blame?  That'd be pretty helpful.

This is interesting. I don't see any reason why he'd be pulling ads in these areas unless he's either really short of $$$ or raising the white flag. PA, OH, FL, NC on that list.

He's got the money. - He's not really trying to win, hoping to keep the money, and/or the people really running his show know they have already lost and it's pointless. A lot of these areas have hardly had ads for most of the year, it's meaningless to start now.

Should we be worried that Moscow deployed 429 more warheads than Washington? Why the number may be misleading—and Putin ditching other treaties may be scarier.
As of Oct. 1, Russia had hundreds more nuclear warheads deployed than the United States did. A startling 429 more, in fact, according to the U.S. State Department.
Don’t panic quite yet. The gap is probably temporary. But that doesn’t mean all’s well when it comes to potentially world-ending weaponry.
The reason for the disparity is simple. While the U.S. military has been steadily cutting the number of nukes it loads on submarines and bombers and in missile silos, Russian forces have recently been adding more.



Seemingly more worrying for the United States, Russia’s 1,796 deployed warheads exceed—by a whopping 246 weapons—the cap of 1,550 deployed nuclear weapons that Moscow and Washington agreed to as part of the 2011 New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.




The United States, meanwhile, is already well below the New START cap. America’s missile submarines, nuclear-capable heavy bombers, and land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles are armed with just 1,367 warheads, the State Department says.

State Department inspector general issues alert over $6 billion in contracting money


The State Department’s inspector general has warned the department that $6 billion in contracting money over the past six years cannot be properly accounted for and cited “significant financial risk and . . . a lack of internal control.”

The warning was the second “management alert” in State Department history, both issued by new Inspector General Steve Linick. Linick took over the job in late September, after it had been vacant for nearly six years.
