Official ** KODI ** streaming thread (tips, help, add ons, etc) (1 Viewer)

I had been running an old Titanium build on a firestick - until the last couple of days it worked fine.  Deleted Kodi this morning, and re-installed Kodi v. 17.3, and then added Elysium.

What other add-ons are worth installing?

It depends on what you like.  If you find one movie/TV addon that works and you like, and that's all you're using Kodi for, stick with just one add-on.  If you need sports, get Prosports and Sportsdevil (even better, get Mobdro, which goes on the main Fire menu, not in Kodi).  I doubt there's much of a reason for more than about 3 add-ons for most people.

Is there a way to allow an add-on to use more memory?

I've increased the video cache, but the addon isn't using everything available to it. I watch the stats screen while playing video through it, and it's only using 20%. When I stream video through another program, it freely uses up to 60%. Needless to say, the first add-on stutters and crashes regularly.
not sure about that. don't think ive seen any setting that would increase processor priority. must be the app itself that has that info coded into it :loco:

Is this just a Kodi thread or also a safe space to ask general questions about cord cutting?

Thinking about going with Amazon as my backbone for cord cutting, does Kodi offer above board services on top of the "free access to everything" stuff?

Amazon firestick has apps for Netflix, SlingTV, etc. as pay services.

The one missing app that I need for local channels is Spectrum TV.  I have to use a Roku and Xbox1 to get Spectrum.

Yeah my #1 consideration for CtC is ease of use. I dont want my wife to have to constantly be switching inputs to flip between OTA and apps. That is where I like the XBox as you can plug the OTA into it through the Haupage. I don't think Fire or Apple TV allows for that.

Fire is interesting because I am pretty heavily invested in the Amazon ecosystem already and going deeper with whole home Alexa/IFTT upgrades. Plus Kodi is very interesting as a bonus.

My wife and kids figured it out in seconds.

I actually fund that I use the base Fire TV apps a lot more than Kodi.  Between Netflix and Amazon, there's a lot of content.  Throw in Mobdro, which is off the main Amazon menu instead of through Kodi, and it's most of what I use - Kodi is just for an occasional TV series or movie.

Never heard of mobdro. What kind of content are you regularly looking for there?

TV channels.  I find it a lot easier to look for a sporting event by finding out what channel it's on, then checking that channel in Mobdro.  I hate navigating Kodi for live sports.

Can't get the wife to cut direct tv because exodus is unreliable.  She really only uses direct tv for reality TV crap like big brother and a litany of stuff I don't know the names of.  Like the dwarf show (big love?) And shows that show special needs families.  I can't watch that stuff but she thinks it's worth over $100/month.  She doesn't really spend money on herself otherwise but damn it would be nice to cut that expense.

Meanwhile I'm loving exodus, except it does cut out sometimes.

Just downloaded Mobdro it gets all the live channels my wife watches.Doing away with Directv tomorrow.
They won't always necessary work or be in your timezone.  Best to supplement it with an IPTV service.  Right now I'm getting my GF FabIPTV for like $10 a month.  You can use with Kodi, but I found the "Perfect Player" app has a better guide/interface.  They have a TV and a sports package.

Here is a google docs spread sheet with a bunch of different providers and their cost/channel list etc... a lot of them provide free 24 hr trial periods to see how it is

Big fan of iptv, meets my needs just fine. I've got an OTA antenna hooked up to my Tivo, and I use DuckieTV to download all the cable shows I would normally DVR. But for the occasional live event, MLB, NFL, or whatever else those first two don't cover, the iptv is the simplest answer. They've also got the bigger Netflix shows on VOD. About $7.50/month. I couldn't get the kodi addon working that well for live streams, but I plugged the URL in to kodi's Simple PVR and it worked right away.

Anyway, as my third option for finding stuff, works just great. Worth it as the only thing I need to pay for.
I will recommend SmoothstreamsTV if you're going this route. They have everything 720p or better, EPG in Kodi  and no buffering. I ditched it since I'm skittish on where this money is ultimately ending up. But regardless, hands down no brainer choice.

Thanks to those who recommended the Archer C7 router.  My router got fried in a storm over the weekend, and I picked up the C7 to replace it.  It was quick to set up, does what I want, and fixed a minor but annoying problem I've had for years with a game (World of Tanks Blitz) that disconnects all the time in the middle of an online match.

Prime day and fire stick and fire tv are no where to be seen.  Not a good sign imo.  Hope they are just laying low for a while.

My wife watches the same #### and sometimes she says she wants to go back to Comcast.  I say absolutely not and tell her to get better taste in TV shows.  None of the shows or movies I watch on Exodus have any problems, but those ####ty reality shows buffer and freeze to no end.

If their solution is to stop selling them then maybe that's good news for those of us who already have them in that the heat put on the addon providers may diminish.

I was really hoping to see either of these (but especially the Fire TV) on Prime Day. I'm hoping they'll pop up eventually

They are still selling them, just not on sale like every single other Amazon device today.

If Amazon is getting any pressure that has me A LOT more worried than any of the addon websites.   That's a whole different deal.

Aren't those guys out of the buffalo area?  The local news they show after the game is over is from that area, the local feeds have announcers from that area and whenever the weather is crappy up there is when there's problems with the service.

has anyone actually run Kodi on a Fire tablet? Does it work OK (enough horsepower)?

If so, what build/version do you recommend on the tablet?
I did it today, 17.3 with Titanium.  I haven't used it a ton, but did get an episode of Fear the Walking Dead going without any real problems.

During the install, I did run into two hiccups.  First, I couldn't click Install on the Kodi APK.  Restarting the tablet fixed that.  Second, after establishing the source for Supreme Builds, I couldn't find the place to install from a zip file.  I'm not even sure where I eventually found it - somewhere under Add-Ons / Running.

Awesome, good to know. Thanks. May give it a shot on mine this weekend.

Whomever suggested the latest Titanium build, thank you. I've had a lot of success with it. I have straight up HD baseball through Made in Canada right now. Limited selection (i.e. not each team's feed) but I haven't been able to find anything really reliable.

Side note > I have a reboot problem on my device (long story, DroidBox knows about it etc). IPVanish is changing servers regularly because of it. I feel like I have to reauthorize RealDebrid each time. I'm still a n00b so I imagine since the IP changes, so does RealDebrid?

I'm liking this - there are a couple of shows I can't get through Netflix or Amazon that I like to keep up with, but I like to watch TV in bed.  The $30 Kindle Fire works well for that.

There's a good dvd copy of Wonder Woman available.  It's subtitled in some kind of asian language but the picture quality is good.
Korean.  Been out 2 weeks now, I think.  Decent movie but I was disappointed based on all the positive reviews.  I think people liked it because she is so hot and pleasant to watch, not because the movie was so good. I was also ticked they didn't play the old WW theme during the credits. But w/e

Wait, there are other reasons to watch a movie?

Zen has been flaky for me lately, so I updated to Elysium, so far so good.

I kept getting an Indigo error at Kodi startup so I deleted and tried to reinstall...cant connect to server.

Has anyone used Covenant yet? And is Exodus done?

Indigo is done because it was TVAddons maintenance tool - as dead as dead can be.  Kaput.

have not tried Covenant ... updated Exodus via SMASH repo, but said repo is currently on the flake.

as gar as Elysium ... pure GOLD right now - the RealDeb scrapes are teeming with super reliable, crisp streams - newer shows popping 20-25 1080/5.1 offerings.  En Fuego.

take a gander at Dr.Streams addon -nuttin' but 4k/1080 goodness.

All I use is exodus.  Why would it be done?

:goodposting:

Exodus + Real Debrid = Plentiful rock solid streams

Buddy tried to watch GOT last night at peak time (8pm CT) and had some buffering issues on Exodus. We watched it at 6pm CT (on a Real Debrid stream) and had zero issues.

I understand that some are hesitant to drop the $2ish per month for RD, but it's worth it IMO.

My BIL sent me a link on Covenant from KodiTips.  I guess a bunch of Add-ons got together and created a new repo called Colossus.  One of these repos is Covenant ("The new Exodus moving forward").  I tried to follow the link in the article to learn more, but it was a dead-end.  Haven't done much research beyond that though.

From the article I linked, its being replaced by Covenant

The Covenant Kodi addon is the brand new generation of Exodus, arguably the most popular Kodi addon in existence. Find out about Covenant today

Following Genesis and Exodus, Covenant is officially supported by former developers associated with lambda, the original creator of the addon. It is the official fork of Exodus and a part of the Colossus Kodi Repo.

Covenant is the original multi-source movie and TV show addon for Kodi, scraping over 50 websites for links. With integrated imdb, trakt, real-debrid, premiumize, and ororo support, Covenant is truly an all-in-one source for finding media in Kodi.

For those of you who already have Exodus installed, you can install Covenant via our install guide below and uninstall Exodus from your Kodi  box. Exodus will not be receiving updates any further and all new support will reside in Covenant.

I  installed Colossus and then Covenant...when you add the new source for Colossus, the URL I used successfully is "gadgetjunkieuk.net/colossus" ... be sure to put "http://" in front of that

This thread is one big head shaker.   People must really like messing around with these devices.  I just want my stuff to always just work.
it works when you work it - enough options to make it remarkably stress free from my end.  have never sat and been disappointed by anything i chose to view.

we have cut that cord - no looking back.

Watching Alien Covenant right now on 1 Channel.  I can almost always find a working stream for any movie I want. I never go to any other movie add on.

VPN for you?

my 1Channel appears to be under geo-restriction, but i won't go the VPN route.

i mostly use WOLFPACK and GENESIS Reborn for flix, both are generously stocked with plenty of genre busters.
