Official ** KODI ** streaming thread (tips, help, add ons, etc) (3 Viewers)

ran a search in the thread, and didn't find a return for this  AREA 51 option ... anyone familiar? feedback? please to explain your experience if applicable?

TIA
Am I missing something?  The silver is $7.50/month, gold is $8.33/month, and platinum is $8.75/month for the same package of channels.

the increments rise as per length of subscription - believe the longest available run is four months 'Platinum'  ($8.75) silver for two months, gold for three ...

I've been a "I'll be the guinea pig" user of 1-month IPTV service providers for awhile now. Currently using FabIPTV, which has a nice list of channels and uses the Perfect Player apk that you can sideload where you don't have to use Kodi, hit it straight from the Fire TV menu. It's about $10 a month and has everything but adult channels, which I'm definitely fine with for live TV. Quality says 720p but eyeball test wise is a little scaled down, but good for the price. Large list of UK and US channels and the PP EPG is :moneybag: , which I care about to replicate the live TV pay experience. Can pause as well.

I will always keep SmoothStreams TV, which is the gold standard for sports coverage. Can't recommend to you guys right now because they are going through upgrades and most channels are in SD while they bridge to all 720p HD and dedicated non-sports channels, which they override currently for sports. Been around forever and very good at users/stream management, where alot of competitor IPTV services oversell and buffering enters the picture, never an issue over there so I'll throw up the bat signal for them once they're done their upgrade work.

Will give the one you guys are outlining above a shot, always looking for a better option here.

Highly recommend this sub-reddit on the IPTV topic, tons of good info and the grid they maintain with stats on all IPTV providers and user commentary is absolutely fantastic: https://www.reddit.com/r/IPTV/comments/560nyo/collaboration_list_of_iptv_providers_their/?st=izu0rxm1&sh=4361834c

Has anyone installed Kodi on an old computer that doesn't have an operating system?  Assume you have an old motherboard, CPU, some ram and a hard drive or usb stick...can you install Kodi on it?

Just install kodi to a thumb drive

the mb hard drive route would waste electricity compared to the USB

I understand that.  Let me frame it another way. I'm pointing out that 4 months of Silver costs $30 while 4 months of Platinum costs $35 for the same package.

Check exodus and Phoenix for updates Clear cache purge packages restart firestick

Wall outlet. Report back

Same. Was too comfortable but I realized I was paying too much for 90% #### I never watched
Does it need to be cleared and updated every so often? Mine is plugged in the back of my TV. Brother-in-law bought one and hooked it up for us a couple weeks ago.  I get the "stream not available" some but get the "open load stream authorization" Crap all of the time. Always have to cancel out and look for another.

gonna be delayed a bit longer, kid who was supposed to hit me with the stick ran outta stock (he prioritizes his 'jailbreak' clients first, and depleted his inventory).

i then went to a few joints trying to score one - all sold out  :(   best explanation from a chik at Best Buy: "you're looking to score the hottest electronics piece on the first Friday of the month? hahaha".

Bish.

anyways ... anyone have experience with the ELEMENT Ti8 - it's a streaming box with Kodi preloaded?

I think the stream authorization message is from the streaming servers and not Kodi related at all.  That's what I believe anyway.

Kodi's been great for the short time I've had it so far. Loaded up on a Raspberry Pi with a boatload of retro games.

One minor complaint - I'd like to watch the movie 'Split' with the multiple personality serial killer guy. Problem is every feed that I'm finding is some weird bowling movie from a few years ago with the same title.

Also, tried to watch 'Lion' last night and can't find a single feed with English subtitles. Watched 25 minutes of it with my wife before realizing "I think it should have subtitles by now..."

I didn't notice any deterioration with smoothstream.  I watched the duke/unc game sat and the ufc ppv and it looked normal 720p to me.

Special events get 720p. Watch college BB non-marquee games, they're in SD as are most of the channels. Total mixed bag while they do the upgrade work on the back end. Went onto their mIRC support chat and confirmed 1-60 will be 720p full time dedicated channels in the near future, along with a major overhaul of the Kodi app. If you have access to the members forum, it's outlined in there. Going to be sweet, including full PVR and live pause on Fire TV.

Gotcha.   Wow, if they ever get that pvr working, that would be sweet.  They have the menu option in kodi, but it doesn't work.  It had been mentioned in the forum, but never addressed.  No more need to torrent the ufc fights I don't feel like staying up for.

Yeah, exact same problems here.  Usually they will fix the split problem once the movie is out, but, I see it's out on the torrents now so I don't know why Exodus still has that all messed up.  Maybe try a bunch of the other add ons?  Let me know if you find one that works.

I would not bother with a preloaded box. You'll just likely end up tinkering, figuring it out  & ultimately change the preloaded. I can't emphasize how simple it is to tailor to your liking. I've tried several builds but right now use plain vanilla Krypton.

P. S. Don't have the Ti8 but would recommend the Neo U1. Fantastic box.

I found it a few weeks ago clicking through tons of streams.  Most are that f'ing bowling movie but near the bottom it found the right one.

I found it first try using Salts. Actually my daughter found it. I ignore Exodus since the hacker attack thing, but FreeTelly install got buggie so I uninstalled and went with a vanilla Kodi 17. I like it and the bugs are gone.

I downloaded a subtitles add-on.  I'm not that techy but it was in the sub directory area and I just had to enable it?  I googled it and found the answer. Sorry I am not more help....but now I can watch subtitles for any movie I choose.

should be set up this week

are any of you running 17?  i am hearing that some content from 16 didn't carry over?

if this is your first kodi experience go with 16 imo

much more user friendly

are you going to try the IPTV service?

I did see a short YouTube clip somewhere about how to add a subtitles add-on but wanted to see if something was available within Exodus first. I enabled subtitles and they work on every movie...except Lion. Probably because they're not speaking English? I should be able to figure it out with the add-on. If anyone has a recommended one let me know.

I usually go into system settings to subtitled click find more and theres one major one cant remember the name off the top of my head that requires a membership. There is an 'unofficial' one of that same subtitle provider that has all subtitles for free

this is what I was referencing earlier - that the 17 was a bit less populated - ate you still on Jarvis 16?
Can you elaborate? What do you mean by 17 is less populated than 16? I'm assuming that you're referring to the # of shows/movies that are available? If that's the case that doesn't make any sense because they both utilize the same source for scraping. That would be like saying that the new version of Chrome doesn't bring back as many URLs as an older version of Chrome.

i said I had read it on a few boards, i have zero physical experience with it - total neophyte, excuse my naivete- it's all ####### Greek to me atm.

I've skimmed here, so forgive my ignorance. I installed Kodi a while back (6-9 months ago I guess?). Should I be uninstalling and reinstalling periodically? Or uninstalling one build and loading another?  I've noticed the past few times I streamed a show (not live stuff), that it plays for a few minutes then stops. Don't have that problem on Netflix or Amazon Prime shows.

happens to me 1/20 times when watching a movie. it will stop with 10 minutes remaining.. I just go back to the same stream and resume

Hmm, wonder what's up with mine. It's like it's bogging down my connection or something. Wonder if Comcast is up to something...

is it the same panel that has options like queue item and add to favorites if you're looking at a list of shows?
not too sure. only thing I use in the panel is the view change I never really looked at the other items. I just know if im looking at exodus or a list of addons the left arrow will bring up a tiny panel with some view options. so it might have those also

You should not need to periodically reinstall. The only time you should need to go to another build is your just curious about trying a new layout and scheme.

If you're having buffering issues chances are it's one of two things: 1) Your network connection (i.e. bandwidth) isn't sufficient to handle the load. 2) Your cache and buffer settings need to be optimized to stay enough ahead of the streaming (but not so much that you utilize and choke too much memory).

I'd suggest looking at one of these two sources. Both give the same info but some people like to read and some like to watch so I've provided an option for each.

How to fix buffering issues (text)

How to fix buffering issues (video)

Thanks Buzz, will check that out.
No problem. The settings you use are dependent on your device (specifically how much internal RAM you have available). For example I use an android box that has 2GB of RAM and the Amazon Firestick has 1GB RAM. A pretty safe setting would be the following.

cachemembuffersize = 157286400
buffermode = 1
readbufferfactor = 20

A cachemembuffersize = 157286400 is equal to 150MB but Kodi will require 3x the amount of RAM to be free (so it's really counting on 450MB). Setting this too high might cause Kodi to crash if it can't get enough RAM. So, you need to find that sweet spot of not too low and not too high. The above settings are a pretty safe basis for a device of 1GB to 2GB RAM.

Thanks. I am running the Amazon Fire box on my main TV, and that's the one I've had the issues on. But like I said, Netflix and Amazon Prime videos play just fine.

I get the "open load stream authorization" message on most of the streams I try to open - what does that mean, that I'm not authorized?

what build are you using? titanium has that buffer speed option in their maintenance tab you just need to click it for your specific device

Where do I check it? In app settings? Sorry, I'm still a noob to all this. Didn't really use it a lot until last week when I told Comcast to #### off
