I'm not sure if you're picking up on one key point:  Exodus is an addon, and sure right now most people use it for 95% of the stuff they watch, but this build has imported that movie information right to the movie thumb nails regardless of what addon you are using.
I get that.  I don't use any builds because it's all bloat to me. 99.9% Exodous in plain Kodi here.  Occasionally I'll try sportsdevil for a live stream for something but it works less than 15% of the time (I love how they have a bunch of dead links for you to try though

:oldunsure:

I've been told to get this but have no idea what or how.  Then I jumped in and you're all speaking a foreign language.

Can someone break this down to a techno-idiot?

  1. Buy a Fire TV or Fire Stick
  2. Find a Youtube video that tells you how to install Kodi on a Fire device.  Probably one that uses ES Explorer.  Here's one.
  3. Find a Youtube video that tells you how to install a build.  If you used the video above, you have Kodi Krypton (V17), so there's no consensus on best build - go for tonydead's favorite here.
  4. Watch any movie or show you want - if you have a choice of addons to choose to play something, choose Exodus.
  5. Live sports suck unless you pay for some kind of service - not my bag.
  6. It doesn't seem to be illegal since you don't take possession of anything - at least, nobody can seem to find an example of someone getting in trouble for doing it.

Thanks.  The build kind of confused me but downloading krypton now.

Been trying to convince my wife to give up direct tv for a while now.

No need for es explorer anymore. Just search your available amazon add-ons for an app called "downloader". Just type in the url to the file you want to download. Even prompts you to install once it's done downloading.

*if on a fire device instead of restarting when done installing a build just unplug the device and plug back in just to be sure.

If you want sportsdevil to work, and you're not using a build to update it for you, you have to manually do it yourself every month or so.

I use several of the other addons (1channel, Salts) to find older tv series that I can't reliably find in Exodus. I use some of the live tv (Phoenix, stallion, ccloud etc.) to watch news channels when major news is going on and I'm tired of the local channels. And BTsports streams have been very solid lately for live UFC.

No Limits has a firestick version of its build to cut down on the bloat.

yup, it's still crap... even worse on titanium where it has a 'live sports' section that is completely outdated

If you have a firestick, or any other android based device, installing mobdro is a must for any live tv, including all sports channels.

http://troypoint.com/mobdro

This is not a kodi app, it is for the firestick itself.

ETA: Working from home right now and streaming Sky Sports News in HD. All other Sky Sports channels, BT Sports, Eurosport, ESPN, etc etc etc are all available as well.

btw, there is a mobdro app available for kodi as well, but it hasn't been updated in ages, and does not work. Don't bother to try it. The above only works directly in android (Firestick, FireTV, Android based boxes).

I use IPVanish, easy to install across all your devices, 5 simultaneous connections, no logging, faster speeds, optimized for streaming, etc etc

I think mine is about $5/mo

Did anyone else install Mobdro and end up with no app icon?  I can launch it from Settings, but really would like an app icon.  Help?

I installed Krypton with Titanium- looks good so far.

Can you install this directly on a FireStick?  My issue when I tried PIA (Private Internet Access) is that when I installed it directly on my router so all my network was protected, it dropped speeds significantly and I had buffering issues.  PIA's tech support was wonderful, but they couldn't help me figure out how to get it working directly on my FireStick.  They said that installing it on a device would get better speeds than installing it on a router.

yes, that is what I did, installed it directly on the device.

ETA: it also starts automatically and connects, when the stick starts

Do you have a link to a how-to that tells me how to do this?  I tried several ways with PIA, and none worked.

I bought a jailbroke firestick with Kodi a while ago and one day it was giving my wife issues. So (without me knowing) she accidentally signed into the stick using our Amazon passwords.  :wall:

I have not used it since b/c i don't want to let amazon know I'm using to watch  :bag:  things.

Should I wipe it and reinstall? I'm assuming thats pretty easy to do? Should I be updating these things every so often?

I don't see that as an issue tbh. Signing in to amazon allows you to access Amazon prime content, through their apps. Kodi is just another app on top of it, and Amazon does not disallow sideloading.

Now, you should probably reinstall, or at least update all the apps you have, on a regular basis. It is likely that your apps being out of date is the reason for the issues.

is there a solid set of instructions to do that? I'm a putz at updating software.

Just got the notification, my Fire TV has arrived :excited:

That is the good news. Bad news, I have everything running through a Denon receiver in an enclosed entertainment center and set up perfectly through a Logitech Harmony Hub. Going to have to undo the back, new HDMI in, reconfigure the remote. Not a huge deal, but not a fun activity.

I think we might have a terminology problem.

Installing Kodi on a Fire Stick isn't the same as what he's probably referring to as a jailbroken Fire Stick.  My brother has a Fire Stick he bought from some shady dude, and it has access to Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu+.  My brother doesn't subscribe to any of those services.  It also had Kodi on it.

Technical question:

I subscribed to mystreams.tv months back and lately, I've not been able to watch a single stream of theirs for more than a couple moments before it just dumps me back to the menu for no apparent reason. I even did a clean re-install of Kodi Krypton with the new Titanium Krypon and it still happens.

Any idea what the issue could be? No other service I use (Exodus mostly) does this to me.

Anyone streaming NCAA Tournament? I have tried several streams with zero success. I am now listening on the radio.

Turn off "collect app usage data" in the settings.

They hate VPNs. It's in the not so fine print when you sign up.
