Well, desperate times call for desperate measures. If I'm GM I sign one of Sanchez/McCown (if released), move Stave to PS, and sign Mettenberger as a WTH 3rd. I know I'm on an island liking Mettenberger, but he's more developed than Stave and a decent fit for the downfield passing offense Norv could implement in his sleep. Maybe he's reckless, I don't know. I don't know whether he had Turner level of coaching in Tennessee and San Diego, and he should be in relatively decent shape having been cut just yesterday. Also he has an arm that offer some developmental upside, and would do better if thrown on the big stage in a pinch vs. Stave.
The silver lining for me is the Vikings were perhaps less exposed than other NFL teams by this type of occurrence, and the timing is much better than week 10. Maybe not popular to say, but fact is Teddy threw just 14 TDs in 2015, which is meager by any standard and not huge production to replace. Don't get me wrong, I liked his progression but don't think Bridgewater had yet merited the "our guy" role he'd been handed - that's sort of manufactured IMHO, and people are reacting as if we've lost Drew Brees.
Another silver lining is I think the FO will now be forced to do better contingency/succession planning for 2017 and beyond. This is something that could happen on any play of a brutal NFL season. JMHO, but the Vikes have been playing fast and loose hitching their wagons to developmentals like TJack, Ponder and Bridgewater and creating a 'no chance of competition' atmosphere which can lead to crisis when there is no competitive Plan B. Maybe going through something like this changes that approach for the better.
