Elias sports bureau says there were 5,992 strike outs in the month of April, an all time high for the month of April. And it is the 2nd highest per game strikeout rate in the history of baseball at 15.29, the highest month ever recorded was last September at 15.47.

In comparison, in 2007 there was an average of 13.2 strikeouts per game, 2009 was 13.8 to 15.3 now. Keep on hacking boys!

So which catcher has the best hose these days?

For the longest time, if you said "Pudge Rodriguez" you'd have a good chance of being correct. But I haven't thought about it lately.

I was really impressed with

when they played Boston recently. Is he in the conversation?

Wow. O's-Angels game delayed for bees.

Hundreds swarmed on the camera behind home plate.

ETA: Nevermind. They are carrying on. Though, bees did delay a HOU game in '09.

MLB guys just said that first pitch swings go down and K's go up. Of course correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation but I have to think that is part of it. I hate the taking of the first pitch b/c pitchers are too good and the game plans are too smart to give them a free strike. Not to say you can't or shouldn't go up there very selective almost acting like a 2-0 pitch and sitting on a fastball but getting behind a guy like Kershaw or the old Halladay might as well just go sit down. That is why I hated what Bo Porter was doing earlier.

Bucholz cheating? MLB network doing a thing now
Seems pretty circumstantial. Looks like the glistening just could have been due to lighting/sweat.
That is what I thought. But they showed a clip from early in the season where the same glistening appeared and then showed a clip from last year and it wasn't there. He said he is putting water on his forearm, which might be a change from last year and would explain it.

Cueto still feeling soreness in that lat. If the Reds were considering keeping Leake in the rotation, Cingrani owners are getting at least a couple more weeks out of him

Whatever he's doing, it's working. Keep on keeping on, Clay.

Hechavarria with 7 RBI against Halladay in the first 3 innings.
.167 average and .288 slugging percentage coming into the game. I don't see any reason to keep Halladay unless he goes to the DL in leagues that don't have deep benches. 4 BBs, 2 HBP and three extra base hits in 2.33 IP against the worse offense in the NL.

Halladay walks the bases full of Marlins in the top of the first.
He just might be done. Bases loaded double followed with another walk. Might not get out of the first. He is going to have to come up with an injury to go down to the minors and figure things out.
Have been a huge fan of the doctor but this is sad. No control, hitting batters and no velocity. Hope he works it out.

It is sad. The guy works as hard as anyone but we'll see how he responds to this. In his first couple starts, he seemed to be blaming others for his lack of success. I could see him get one more start and if it doesn't improve, you can't keep putting him out there. You'd have better success with a journeyman who can at least keep you in the game.

Hopefully he can reinvent himself but that remains to be seen but they can't let him try to do that in the majors especially in Philly where they will eat him alive.

Yep, he's going to visit Dr. Yokum, complaining of shoulder soreness.
Would have been nice if he had gone a week ago!!! Jerk!!!!

Sounds like he should've, said he started feeling it during his April 24th start. Really too bad they didnt have the balls to shut him down if they knew about it, Doc is running his show. I respect that to an extent, but if you're hurt and not helping the team then you should be shut down.

Houston shut out for the first time since April 8. That's pretty impressive for them.
16th in the majors in runs scored. Theyre not terrible
They're terrible.
16th in batting average. What makes their line up that terrible?
Lack of good hitters?
so youre just ignoring the stats
If you don't think the Astros have a terrible lineup, I don't know what to tell you.
