I'm saying owners being disappointed with his production so far and considering benching him in all but the worst matchups had unreasonable expectations from day one. He was drafted hoping for continued improvement, but it's not like the guy has regressed. At worst he's the same guy he was last year.
Matt Moore has never in his career had a month like the June he just had. He walked 6 batters
twice (6 walks three times now this season; he did that 0 times last season). He walked 6 batters in 2.1 innings! That's a stunning lack of control for any pitcher on a bad day. If you can't look at these recent numbers and understand why owners are concerned, you're being willfully difficult. His overall numbers
have evened out ... Well, sort of. He now enjoys a career worst ERA, WHIP and walk rate, which after his nice start is pretty remarkable. At worst, he's a
worse pitcher than he was last year. At best, he settles down and claws his way back and makes a modest improvement on his sophomore season numbers.
As for why I drafted him? He was the guy in his tier who fell to me. Of course I
hoped for continued improvement, but I guess that hope was unreasonable.
