I seriously doubt Brees is out for the year, maybe for a game so he can rest. A torn rotator cuff is a serious injury and I doubt he would have even been in for the next series if that was the case. He did have his arm yanked back and then he followed that by having to chase and dive on the ball 20 yards back but he continued to play.

I wish it was Tuesday morning so I could send out trade offers on this.

Steve Geller ‏@SteveGellerWWL 29m29 minutes ago

be careful where you get your information from folks. My wife texted me saying she saw on Facebook Brees was out for the season. FALSE!

I will say some sort of injury was inevitable - or is or will be - if the line doesn't start protecting him better. It's been inexcusable for a while now, dating to last year. I could not help but notice Peat going in as the third TE (which the Saints don't carry) to provide extra protection.

Really only thing that can save them now is if the defense shows up somehow in Carolina. Staring at 0-3, Payton and Brees do not deserve this fate.

So ... are we ready for Life Without Brees? :kicksrock:
is this confirmed? I see you posting it in a few thread
I am personally satisfied that it will be confirmed. That's all I can say, because I have nothing official to go by. I'm getting the info fourth- or fifth-hand myself.
interesting thanks for the heads up
Errrr ... guess I was fooled :kicksrock: A few of the rumor guys at Saintsreport are still saying that Brees "was advised to sit out the season" and that he's going against medical advice to play.

But for now, #9 is still behind center.

I really wish he would. Too many injuries on defense. Rob Ryan needs to go as well. Get a nice draft pick and see if we can add some talent back to the offense through draft or FA.

That was a miracle game by Brees. That throw to Spiller was a thing of beauty, truly. But Brees looked really limited for a good bit of the game and he was constantly shrugging his shoulder. They were lucky to be playing Weeden and the Dallas D.

I'm still hopeful, but more Spiller please!

It's sad and inexplicable what is going on on offense. We've talked about the drafts and the ignoring of the skill positions for most of 10 years. We've talked about Brees and the lack of depth on the line.

What gets me is the bizarre playcalling, the insane reliance on Ingram and the lack of use of Spiller and Khiry (and maybe IMO Murphy).

And Ryan? Holy sht is the D disorganized. He was totally figured out by Kelly at half. You can look like that and be a mad genius, but don't look like that and be a disorganized slob.

And the hiring of Ireland still bothers me. I don't know what's going on with Loomis, but he seems to be too administrative now overseeing two franchises and not enough of a GM. I fear losing Payton and Brees and a return to the Dark Ages.

I have no idea who thought Ireland was a good idea, but this teams look like most of the teams he has been involved with. Just not good. There just isn't enough talent on this team to be competitive.

I am curious about Payton's future here too. I'm not sure he's going to want to stick around for the rebuild.

this was as bad a loss as we've had in a lot of ways. it wasn't a total laydown like the Bengals game last year but it was evident that we were outcoached.

Offense - the loss of Armstead and Evans along the line was critical. Peat didn't look comfortable at LT. Brees played better I thought and seemed willing to sling the ball downfield finally. Snead, Cooks aren't bad but they're not going to scare anyone. Little production from any other passcatcher. I like Ingram but Spiller needs to be used. This bit of playcalling was mystifying considering how well he played last week and how it was talked up by Payton.

Defense - I don't blame Ryan entirely. Philly's line held up and we couldn't really pressure Bradford. But the secondary was a mess and that's what Dennis Allen was brought in to fix. They're just not going to hold up when the defense can't pressure the QB effectively.

Coaching - a ####show. We got outcoached across the board. Payton didn't help himself. Penalties hurt us again which suggests lack of focus, discipline. I'm not sure Ryan will last but Payton is certainly feeling the heat too.

Faust said:
This I believe.

During the Black and Gold Scrimmage back during Training Camp in early August, a angry Payton was seen fuming by onlookers after Ryan had to chew the unit out for committing several sloppy penalties, prompting Payton to loudly tell Ryan within earshot of those nearby: “This is an epidemic”.
Never heard that story but the penalty problem has continued.

Ohh maybe we can trade Payton for Caldwell and I can pull my paper bag out of retirement. Was getting ready to anyway.

I think just getting rid of the guy from Where the Wild Things Are would be a great start.

Yes, thanks for the encouraging notes, Faust. :sadbanana:
Look on the positive side of things. It is becoming increasingly clear that change needs to happen with the Saints to move the organization forward. Showing Rob Ryan the door would be a step in the right direction!

There was a weird drop in segment coming back from the break last night during halftime of the Giants - 49ers game. Peter King was talking to Mike Florio in a very casual manner, e.g., neither one realized they were on the air and after about 8-10 seconds they cut away and went back to the commercials.

KING: You know Bill Parcells was his mentor, and you know what he always said? Better to leave a year early than a year too late.

FLORIO: Sean Payton should have remembered that.

KING: Exactly. Stayed a year too long.

i saw it too but it wasn't spontaneous.

i figured he would leave after Brees' contract ended next year. i'm not sure he has the luxury to make that decision anymore. the question is whether Brees leaves before the contract.

interesting hypothetical question - Drew's contract is up next year and we all presume Grayson is the heir apparent. what if Drew gets traded to, say, Chicago for Cutler. Pace comes from the NO front office and now is the GM in Chicago. Cutler is mostly loathed in Chicago and has a bigger contract. they might want to get out of his contract as a result. trading for Cutler, who could be another reclamation project for Payton, would give us more time with Grayson, and give something to Chicago in the process.

You wanna get younger we'll take Brees for Doughboy straight up. That way they could both keep #9 - win win.

We'll pass that on to the home office and get back to ya.

We'll even throw in an O.C. if you need one of those after Payton moves on.

Well it's been a nice lil' run, Saints fans, including maybe one if the best single game QB performances in NFL history and the highest scoring game in Saints history.

The Bucs game is burning me up still but I'm going to let it go.

The schedule is cake, they have a shot.

Does anyone have a clue what is going on with the TJ Graham signing? I'm surprised they let Austin Johnson go.

A few folks on Saintsreport think Johnson whiffs on too many blocks. But aside from that ... can't be sure what Payton is thinking. Might just be churning the last few spots on the 53-man for a short-term advantage. As for an in-a-pinch FB, Hoomanawanui played some FB against the Giants -- him being able to man two positions might've made Payton's decision re: Johnson easier.

As for T.J. Graham ... they never really replaced Joe Morgan's spot. Maybe Graham is good on special teams coverage or something. Graham's not going to come in and get regular offensive touches, I wouldn't think.

It's bizarre to read the Oct 12th comments in this thread. Things looked really dark after the game at Philly.

Beating the Titans this weekend would prove that the 2015 Saints are shaking off some of the bad habits of prior Payton teams. In years past, when the Payton-Brees Saints teams started slow and battled back to .500 ... they ALWAYS lost the next week's game. Writing that without reseach, but that's how 2007, 2008, 2012, and 2014 seemed to go if memory serves.

Ramon Humber's hamstring must be worse off than we thought (recall that Michael Mauti finished the Giants game):

#Saints have signed LB Mike Mohamed, per league source.

— Evan Woodbery (@TheSaintsBeat) November 4, 2015

Mike Mohamed, 27, was drafted by Broncos in 6th round in 2011 out of Cal, spent last 3 seasons with Houston Texans.

Actually OhOh playing the H-back spot makes a lot of sense, the offense has picked up a lot since they added him.

Graham had endless problems in Buffalo and Bills fans were sick of him, but I'm excited to see what he can do, Morgan was a one trick pony. Glad to move on.

Humber came right in and blitzed Manning last week, that was great, I'm sorry to see him hurt, this also makes the Mohamed signing make sense. That was a good Texans defense last year.

Opening statement: “(We are) Just going through our normal Monday routine with our players. (There are) A lot of corrections to make from this game. One thing you see in the tape is you preach details and in each phase there are elements where the little things come up and hurt us in this game. (We) Felt like we had a little bit of early momentum that we weren’t able to capitalize on and those guys hung in there and all of a sudden it became one of those games and we didn’t play well enough. There is a lot we have to correct on film and clean up and I would say look just as much as we do with the assignments and the techniques as players the same thing as coaches.”

Were the areas you saw that needed to be cleaned up, were they areas that were cleaned up three games ago?

“Some were maybe new to this game and others that weren’t necessarily new.”

When you say clean up the coaching what do you mean?

“Listen there are things we look at the tape and you know it’s a lot like your children. If behavior continues you are either allowing it or aren’t making the corrections and so the child’s noisy at the grocery five weeks in a row at some point I look at the parent I don’t look at the child.”

...
- Sean Payton press conference after the Titan disaster.

i think Payton leaves at the end of the season. Ryan for sure is done.
I have a bad feeling you are right. Return to the bad old days straight ahead. It's all started with Benson and his failure to plan his estate properly. I guess Payton saw the writing on the wall when he put the poison pill in his contract.

Saints followers: Does the club make a move on Ryan after this game? Bye coming and all?

(seeing the posts above, maybe SP is just playing out the string?)

Smiley I don't think Payton has that concept in his vocabulary. Hard to say what's going on. The choice of Ryan was good the first year but the relationship has always been rough. They seem like very different people. It's not just a professional clash it's a personal one. The Saints have had a lot of stability under Payton and I guess if there's anything underlying keeping Ryan it's that, and the fact that Payton expects to still get on a run and make the playoffs which with that schedule they could do.

However as pointed out further up that Titans loss was right out of the 2007-08 7-9 & 8-8 seasons, and you can throw in the narrow losses to Carolina and Tampa which were of the same ilk. It's all very reminiscent of those seasons.
