***Official*** NFL Draft Thread 2005 (1 Viewer)

For fantasy owners, let's hope the pick is anyone but Cedric Benson or Cadillac Williams.
Is Ronnie Brown the early frontrunner for #1 rookie pick? I don't think Edwards could be ahead of him unless he got traded to a more offensive club.
Lemme find a Drinen link for you,
http://footballguys.com/drinenneedle.htmConclusions: So history has taught us that successful rookie wide receivers can come from the following kinds of teams:

* good teams;

* bad teams;

* pass-oriented teams;

* run-oriented teams;

* teams that already had a good receiving corps;

* teams that had a terrible collection of WRs;

* teams with veteran QBs;

* teams with rookie QBs;

* teams with good QBs;

* teams with bad QBs;

* teams with a rotating carousel of QBs;

And the worst part is that, at least to my eye, all these kinds of teams appear equally likely to produce successful rookie WRs. What a mess. So have we accomplished anything here? I'm not sure. I guess what I'll take from this exercise is that perhaps that buzzword "situation" is overrated when it comes to considering rookie WRs. The successful rookies in the past 16 years have come from a bewilderingly diverse collection of different situations.

who will be the first team that does not use their 15 minute allotment.... "our player is there now and we want him now"?

That was a good article when I read it some time ago. I think with the recent success of Boldin, Clayton, Johnson & Roy FFers are gonan be looking more and more at taking rookie WRs early. It's still a bad idea I say since the consensus #1/#2 rookie WR (NFL & FF draft) have yet to be the #1/#2 performing rookie WR in FF. If you really want a rookie WR, wait til the last rounds and roll dice.

Anybody want to bet the daily double and try and predict the next two picks for the Yucks and then the Titans?How about the trifecta and make it the Yucks, Titans, and Vikes?

Adding to Drinen's work....the top WR selected the past twenty years hasn't ever ranked higher than Keyshawn Johnson (22nd overall, 1996).

Looks like the Bucs have a choice of the two guys they outwardly clamored over from the outset - Caddy and BMW.Or maybe they surpise and grab Rodgers?

Rodgers then Mike Williams..

Boldin's certainly an example of how a bad situation doesn't have to be a negative. Braylon Edwards' situation isn't great, but Trent Dilfer and Kellen Winslow aren't terrible.

Bucs - Carnell WilliamsTitans - Antrel Rolle

Looks like Benson has a chip on his shoulder to do well and put it in the face of all the teams questioning his character... hmm... could be #1 rookie pick.

Anybody else think Suzie is sucking harder than usual? What a dumb interview, quit bringing him down.
I watched Jerry MaGuire last night and Suzie's interview reminded me of Roy Firestone's with Rod Tidwell. :lmao:

Going back to SF pick of Alex Smith - Why not trade down? Tim Rattay is serviceable - at least until a better lineup of QB's come out. I could see them taking a QB #1 if Leinert came out. Smith is not going to start next year, will he? I'm thinking not. Why not trade down and possibly get two first rd picks where you can draft for need. A productive LB to compliment Julian Peterson, and OL help. QB is not their major need, IMO.

And they're hoping it won't be for a long, long time.
