***Official Philadelphia Phillies Thread*** - Castellanos ****s wit Philly (2 Viewers)

Great game by Fausto. Was ready to write him off after the first inning or two.

Game over .500 in May. 2 of 3 from the Nats and probably should have swept them. Their run differential is terrible for a winning record but can't help but think of the games the bullpen has pissed away.

yup, the starting pitching is good and IIIFFF the lineup stays healthy, it's certainly above average. But this bullpen will destroy it all.

Such a weird team. Get swept, then sweep. So inconsistent. Which obviously means not a playoff team. I think 84 wins max.

Walking LaRoche to get to Zimmerman, who predictably hit an RBI double, is wonderful Ryne shtick.

Followed by The SEPTA Experience commercials I'm getting bombarded with between innings and that, I don't know which is more cringe worthy.

they stink.. time to fire RAJ, hire someone who knows what they're doing, and then sell
fyp ;)
Peter Gammons on CSN Philly rain delay coverage talking about how the Phils need to trade Utley. While functionally speaking I agree, just stop it, Peter. Will never happen, like trying to convince Yankees fans to trade Jeter before he started to age/decline.

At any rate, fire RAJ basically ASAP.

They're saying this Nola kid could be fast tracked to the majors... Sweet, can't wait to see him at CBP sometime in 2020.
:lmao:

Even if he's good, he won't get any decisions behind the recent "years" trend of run support.
A shame we don't have an OF prospect like Domingo Santana in the system anymore, sounds like he could've helped, but the original Pence trade just gets worse...

They should move him and Hamels and absorb as much money as possible on any contracts in an effort to get better prospects back....including the Papelbon contract. They'll get their TV deal soon and have mad money.

Why are we talking about this trade almost three years later? Well, here's this most interesting recent nugget from Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle ...

Less than two months after they picked George Springer from the University of Connecticut, the Astros sent Pence and cash to the Phillies on July 29, 2011, for Cosart, Singleton, Zeid and a player to be named, which ended up being Santana. In spring training, a Phillies official admitted that Santana wasn't actually supposed to be on the list that was given to the Astros to pick from to satisfy the final piece on Aug. 15, 2011.

Woof. So, by virtue of front-office oversight or clerical error or a game of telephone, Santana wound up on the list of players from which the Astros could choose the final piece of their haul. As Ortiz writes, he wasn't supposed to be on that list. He was, subsequently and wisely, chosen by the Astros. That's ... remarkable.

The Phillies, you see, are quite possibly not a well run organization these days.
No ####.

I just read about this on another Phils board. I mean, that is an epically bad move. If RAJ did nothing else wrong, this alone could get him the ax.

Plus, I've seen the point made and agree 100% - you trade the farm literally away to Ed Wade (who needs to get more credit for essentially wearing a ski mask in the Pence trade), and then turn around and trade Pence for pennies on the dollar inside of a year? How do you pay that much for Pence, without the understanding that you're paying whatever it costs to extend him, if you are giving that much to get him?

It's scary how madly this mess has been mismanaged, we're a good 5+ years away from being a legitimate team again. Sucks.

I saw somewhere with the draft just having taken place, remember the Papelbon contract not only cost them the contract price, but also a 1st rounder.

Because we couldn't use that/Paps is so useful to a team effectively going nowhere.

And yeah, I'm with you I think watching this team day in/day out, it's so painful. Realistically, they need to sell high on anything they can get for Hamels/Utley/Papelbon (if they eat some of the $) and re-stock from the atomic bomb they dropped on the farm over the past few years.

Any Philly homer thoughts on the job Sandberg is doing so far?

He waited a long time to get his shot, started out at the bottom, and worked his way up. I was shocked he didn't get the Cubs gig awhile back.

Hard to evaluate with the talent he has but hes not really doing anythig special to get what he can out of them. Hes willing to make moves to the lineup but some of those moves dont always make sense.

Todd Zolecki: Phillies fall to 25-36, worst record in NL and second-worst in baseball. On pace to lose 96 games following 89 losses in 2013.

I think we're approaching "tank to shed RAJ" mode, in my mind, this needs to happen before the trade deadline passes. It needs to be so bad, I think, that the ownership is forced to hand the keys to the GM module to someone else to start the re-building process who has no attachment to any player on the current roster. At this point, the sooner the better.

No doubt. I like the idea thrown around to get Gillick in there on an interim basis through the rest of the season to maximize any trades they might be able to pull off, then hire a long term GM in the off season.

Its a good idea but I doubt the Phillies ownership cares yet. They are notorious fpr taking their time on things. Id say its still 50/50 whether or not hes fired in the off season.

He can't possibly survive. Dom Brown, Reuben's one untouchable, can't play a lick of baseball and he traded away all the ones that possibly could, and acquired even more that suck. He has no business making anymore transactions for this team.

I don't even think it matters whether he stays or goes. I have no faith in ownership to get a good replacement anyway.
