" Trump is going to restore the country's values.  What does this mean?"

The right has been using this trick for years. They portray themselves as the party of "family values", unlike those heathen democrats that want to destroy Christmas and make everyone gay.

Kind of falls apart now that their leader is an internet troll/thrice married man, but they don't seem to mind as much when it's one of their own.
Yeah, I'm curious how they reconcile still being the party of values after having elected Trump.  Are they leaning exclusively on abortion to justify that kind of statement?  I assume even they realize we're not going backwards on gay rights.

I think the portion of the right you are describing have been the ones holding the party back.  It took a guy like trump who loves the gays to bridge the gap.

Very good point. Both ends of the spectrum, you're not changing. It's those in the middle that gives me hope.
whats the end game of imposing your beliefs and logic onto others? Trump is and will remain the President for the next 4 years at the least

what good is it to change peoples minds ?

Trump loves the gays? I keep hearing this... But if Trump loves the gays, why did he just appoint one of the most anti-GLBT cabinet in history? I guess I should believe him, based on what he says vs what he does?

Trump openly mused about appointing a SCOTUS justice who would overturn Windsor.  Why should we assume he loves the gays?
Because he said he's ok with same-sex marriage one time. And everyone knows that Donald Trump is a man of his word, not the sort of man who ever reverses course or speaks without carefully considering the implications of what he's about to convey.

He also mentioned L... G... B... T... Q??? rights in his nomination acceptance speech.

*tr*you forgetting mid term elections?
you do realize that people who voted for Trump weren't just voting for him ...they were voting for change...i dont think getting people to think badly of trump will make a difference in Congress and who people vote in...The dems had a chance to do the right things the last 8 years ...now the right will have its shot

They voted almost entirely for incumbents down ticket.

Now, the midterm races are terrible for Democrats in 2018, so I don't expect much, but I don't see any evidence that this elections was referendum on politicians and the status quo.  The status quo did fine.  The only person punished for being a politician was Hillary Clinton.

He said he would protect me from radical Islamic terrorism. (Insert laugh icon here).

But, didn't he also say that to you, too? What he didn't say to you was that he'd like to overturn your right to marry, or appoint anti-heterosexuals to his cabinet.

And, didn't he capitalize off of the Pulse nightclub incident?

Republicans have had control of both houses of the actual lawmaking body in this country for two years, and have had control of the House of Representatives for six years.  The past two years the Republicans had a larger majority in Congress than they've had at any time in the last eighty years.  I look forward to them having a chance to make laws now that they have less of one, I guess?

Link to the bolded above.

It's almost like the right didn't learn anything from the last 8 years.  Hope and Change!

The majority of the public supports overturning Citizens United.  You think that's going to happen next time one of those cases gets to the Supreme Court?

I disagree with some of your politics but like you as a poster. You're better than this Henry.
I'm not asking for betting odds, or what your feeling is.  I'm asking you what rational basis do you have for deciding that "gay marriage isn't going to be overturned" (whatever you mean by that.)  "The public wouldn't support it" isn't a good enough reason for a Supreme Court with a conservative majority to refuse to overturn Obergefell.

Because the majority of the public support gay marriage.
The majority of the public hates Donald Trump.  A plurality of voters chose Hillary Clinton.  If public opinion doesn't necessarily win democratic elections, why should we possibly expect it to alter judicial proceedings?

It's my common sense Henry. Time are changing and this country has come a long way in how they view gay marriage. My gut tells me it won't be overturned and it's a good thing. Is that ok?

My gut told me that Hillary would win the election... Not sure I feel comfortable trusting my rights inside of your gut.

No.  Your gut is not "rational basis" or "common sense."  It's how you feel about things.  And having an argument about future Supreme Court rulings based on your gut is not all that worthwhile a discussion.

You could say "the practical issue is that there would have to be a plaintiff with standing, which means either a State has to pass a law banning gay marriage again or someone has to find a reason he/she is allowed to challenge the Constitutional protections of another person's marital status, which is, as a practical matter, extremely unlikely."  That would be a real, rational, worthwhile conversation to have.  But my gut tells me isn't.

And now we get lectured on how to have a worthwhile conversation. :lmao:

Am I wrong?

Phase clearly is comfortable that same sex marriage will not be overturned because the majority of the public supports it.

The majority of the public supported Clinton.

Lesson of the day: majority /= a win in SCOTUS or POTUS.

Somehow it always comes back to Hillary...when does the statute of limitations run out for blaming her for all of Trump's faults?
you really are out of touch with the working man if you think it just a word she uttered during the campaign

its not the word...its the attitude ...and its pretty wide spread among the elite dems

I responded and then get lectured about it. That is why the :lmao: is so useful at times. It is damn appropriate at times like now :lmao:
You asked for a link.  I gave one.  You said you didn't believe it would be overturned.  I asked why, and you said because of your "gut feeling" and asked "Is that okay?"

I think it's perfectly appropriate, when asked for my opinion, to explain that, no, it is not okay to just trust your gut as to whether a 103-page opinion by the United States Supreme Court will be overturned someday.  Again, if you don't want my opinion, don't ask for it.

So you consider yourself both an expert on the mentality of "elite dems" and also qualified to speak on behalf of "the working man"?

How does that work, exactly?

Let's pretend it's not a lecture. Can you set that aside, and try to respond thoughtfully, with facts and logic?
I did give my logic. The majority of the public supports gay marriage and with that I don't think it will ever be brought before the Supreme Court again. That is my belief. If that answer isn't good enough than tough ####. I am in your corner on this yet some of you still want to argue about it.

:lmao:
