I think it'd be really interesting to have one Monday night where fans simply cheer the faces and boo the heels. Isn't that what happens on the indy shows? I know it's what happens on WWE house shows - the "Cena sucks" chants were very light at the house show in Minneapolis a few weeks ago.

I don't know...I guess I just think the product would be a lot more fun if people simply enjoyed the show instead of trying to direct the show.
You probably wouldn't have wanted to hang with me and my buds back in the day. We made it our mission to cheer for the heels and annoy our fellow fans.Since we're all over 6 feet tall and weigh between 270-350, we got little more than dirty looks.
I'm going to assume that diabetes and a prescription for Plavix were part of the little more you got.

Pfft. That comment basically screams, "Fans should just lap up the #### Vince is feeding them and mindlessly cheer and boo for whom he tells them to."

While I think some of the smarks who go to live shows go overboard sometimes, it's good to see that fans aren't always as dumb as Vince thinks they are.
This is basically my opinion as well. Sometimes some crowds go overboard, but that is better than mindless cheering and booing.

I've always rooted for Jericho and CM Punk when they were heels, but I still boo'd the hell out of them. That's the way you show support for a heel. It's music to their ears.

The only time I cheered a "heel" at a live event was when Hart was working his angle against Austin, but that's because I considered Hart the good guy in that feud.
I think the booing showing support for a heel is an antiquated way of looking at it. I think that was certainly the way to do it pre-internet and social media, but now there is so much feedback, that booing comes across more as dislike of the person than the character, and booing a heel is akin to saying you don't want to see them, not that you want to see them lose.

Also, a lot of face/heel stories are sometimes difficult to completely agree with. For example, I considered Rusev the good guy in his feud against Cena. Not even for pre-existing Cena dislike, but because the story they presented us, was Cena being a bully and a hypocrite. That is kind of par for the course for Cena feuds though. Frankly, I don't know why anyone is hoping for a heel turn with him, in many ways, he's been the biggest heel on the show for at least 3-4 years.

In any other "era" putting Rusev in the STF until he got a rematch would have been a huge heel move.

Exactly, especially when added on top of insulting Rusev's manager/girlfriend(they've never really been clear on that) for basically existing, and being a woman, and Cena is guilty of this in a lot of his feuds. Its not limited to him of course, but WWE seems to have a weird idea of what a good guy should be, and how to show us instead of telling us.

To bring up the Usos again, remember that feud with Miz/Mizdow? Where Miz was offering Naomi a reading for a part in a movie and offered to pull some strings so she'd get a Divas title shot? If the story was Miz is lying and messing with Naomi to distract the Usos, that is a decent story. But what actually happened is Miz followed through on both those things, and the Usos got mad and basically said she shouldn't accept them and should be happy where she is. Naomi accepted the match, lost, then interfered in the tag title match and led directly to the Usos winning the match. Then the next night she and the Usos bragged about how they pulled one over on the Miz, meanwhile Naomi has not had a title match since. How was Miz the bad guy again?

Sounds to me like someone's pregnant.
You're not a Mets fan by any chance?
No. Why?
 reddit joke. There's a guy named MetsFan4Ever who claims to have inside info. One of his BS posts (months ago) was about AJ being pregnant.
Oh. hehe. No, not me. It's a guess more than anything else. I'm sure her contract ended and she opted not to re-sign, especially with what's been going on with Punk and all else.

WWE has tweeted out that AJ Lee has decided to retire from in-ring competition with WWE.
oof - either bury the divas division again or start calling some up from nxt stat
Charlotte is due for a debut. She will do nicely in AJ's slot.
Sorry the correct answer is Sasha Banks.
She is probably called up this year too. I just know Charlotte has been earmarked for a callup for a while now.

Sad day. She is on my Mount Rushmore of Divas.
As she should be.

It is my opinion that AJ almost single handedly saved the women's division in WWE. Her popularity and importance was every bit as big as Lita or Trish, despite not really having a rival like they had with each other, and the product in general not being as popular. She is the reason that women have their own t-shirts and other merchandise being sold, and she was the only women to get close to the main event in the last decade. I think AJ has kicked open a lot of doors for the women in WWE, and deserves all the credit in the world for that.

AJ as a wrestler was pretty good, AJ as a character was even better. From a character perspective, she may be the best woman in WWE history, though unfortunately, that isn't the highest bar.

On the flip side, I don't think she'll be difficult to replace, she clearly has not been giving her all for almost a year, whether that is injury related, boredom related, or something else, her retiring is not a surprise at all, other than that it didn't happen sooner.

As far as her spot goes, Charlotte is a good candidate for a call up soon, Paige seems likely to become an even bigger focus, and long term, Sasha Banks is the clear answer, as I believe she is the best female wrestler in the last 20 years.

I agree. She may be the only female character I enjoyed in the WWF for storyline purposes. I guess Elizabeth too but it was a very different construct.

Without thinking too much about it, my Mount Rushmore of Divas would be:

AJ Lee - Great worker, love the spunky character, skipping to the ring.

Stacy Keibler - Horrible worker, but dear God that ### and those legs. Sexiest Diva ever

Trish Stratus - Defined the division for a decade. Super hot and super talented. Nice uptops.

Lita - My number one. My favorite worker, love the moonsault, love even more the thong.

Honorable mention: Torri Wilson, Sunny, Sable, Stephanie McMahon

I can't wait til New Day actually do turn heel. Three black guys who are great in the ring, running around dismantling people.

Rollins v. Neville on RAW. Pretty sweet.
Really solid match. Neville is insanely athletic.
"Solid" would be my word for it too. They'll have even better matches when they stop trying to turn Neville in Kofi Kingston. Right now they seem to be trying to put over the anti-gravity gimmick by having him do all his high flying moves in rapid succession. I hope someday they let him be the guy he was in NXT.

Ryback needs a run with the belt.
No he doesn't.

I think they did turn them heel, though more in a Rougeau Brothers kind of way than a Nation of Domination kind of way.

And the crowd is cheering the faces and booing the heels. Way to go, Texas!
YOU CHEER WHO YOU SAY WE CHEER FORHow's life in Soviet Russia?
You cheer for who Vince wants you to cheer, or you cheer for who the IWC wants you to cheer. I don't see much difference.
You could try cheering for who you want?
I agree. I just find it ironic that people who cheer for the faces and boo the heels in accordance with the stories being told are looked down upon by the IWC, while they all share the same brain themselves. It's not like there's a lot of original thought in that community.

How much weight does one give for non-wrestling parts. If we are grading by in-ring and promo ability, my mount rushmore would be:

AJ, best character, and above average worker

Alundra Blayze, best worker, and ok character

Sasha Banks, hate to pick someone not even on the main roster yet, but elite in-ring and great character is almost unmatched in WWE history

Stephanie McMahon, best talker, and surprisingly decent wrestling ability for a non-wrestler

Honorable mention:

Beth Phoenix, was awesome in-ring, and was a decent promo, just never got much to do.

Chyna, I mean she did hold the IC title and was considered a big deal once upon a time

Lita, very overrated worker in my opinion, but was very over.

Trish, similar to Lita, but less popular, though arguably better in-ring.

Call me crazy, but I never really got the appeal of Stacy Kiebler or Torrie Wilson. Couldn't wrestle or talk to save their lives, looks are pretty overrated in my opinion, I mean if that is all you can bring to the table, its not like their is a shortage of good looking women around. I don't count Sunny or Elizabeth, because they never really wrestled.

I'd like it if faces were booked to be likeable, I feel like most of the main event faces are either jerks or overgrown children. Most heels meanwhile, are sensible and respectful. That's a WWE problem I think, they just have trouble writing faces in general.

That said, like who you like. I've been a fan since I was a little kid, so I tend to appreciate the better workers more than anything else. So the big guys, or really green guys who can either barely move, or just look bad at wrestling tend to make me boo, while the more athletic guys, and the chain wrestling types make me cheer.

For example, when I was a kid, my favorite wrestlers were Shawn Michaels, Brian Pillman and Bret Hart. During the attitude era, my favorites were Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. Right now, I really like, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro and Sami Zayn. That is a lot like who the IWC tends to like, but I like them for my own reasons, and not because it is considered cool, so to speak.

Neville reminds me a ton of RVD circa 2000 or so, when he was just doing things nobody else was doing, and could have a technical classic in addition to the aerial shows. I don't know if he's a future world champ, but I think he's going to be an upper midcard to main event fixture for years to come. Last night was just a warm up, he and Rollins could easily have a match of the year caliber match when given the chance.

Ryback needs a run all right, he looked gassed after 2 minutes. Its a shame they don't push Luke Harper more, he's the best working big man they've had in a LONG time, at least, among guys who are there every week, because obviously Brock is awesome.

I'm kinda liking the New Day right now, even though Big E seems like he should be above being on the level of the other 2. A heel turn is just what they need, frankly, I don't know why they were ever faces in the first place. There was a 0% chance that act was going to get over with the fans.
