As right as you are about Sasha and that match being MOTY (it is), you're wrong about the Jon Stewart thing. Vince just crapped on both titles with that one. It didn't tell a good story at all. Vince has to go. If NXT is Triple H's show and WWE is obviously all Vince, this weekend it couldn't be more clear Triple H >>>>>>>>>> Vince.
Is Jon Stewart going to hang around a while? Otherwise, this thing really makes no sense.
When I opened the internet this morning there was Stewart's "heel turn" right on the front page of the news. That was my "ah ha!" moment. They wanted to get mainstream attention, and mission accomplished. Still annoying from a storytelling perspective though. It was made worse by Stewart not really selling it correctly. Instead of looking back and forth from Cena to Rollins he should have been lining up Rollins the whole time right before turning and hitting Cena. And I think he clowned it up a little too much.
Stewart did mess it up as you said. And as good as Rollins was, I thought Cena was almost as bad. As big as he is he avoids as much contact as anyone I can recall. There were several times Cena moved out of the way too early or flinched before Rollins hit his move. Come on Cena be a man!

Geez, cut Cena a little slack - he broke his face just a few weeks ago.

Surprised there was no Kane appearance during the Main Event. The finish sucked, but I could see where it made sense on paper. Guess we get the Rubber Match at WM. Was pleasantly surprised at how well Taker looked. And man, didn't think he would take a single German suplex much less get a full tour of Suplex City. Expect a lot of Paul Heyman showing footage of Taker tapping and Lesnar flipping off Taker before passing out.

Surprised there was no turn from either Reigns or Ambrose. But after the match was glad. That was just a stiff, hard worked matched that made everyone look good with the heroes getting over. I would imagine we will see a third member of the Wyatt Family show up, attack Reigns/Ambrose. Have a few weeks of 3 on 2 beatdowns, and then someone comes to the aid of Reigns/Ambrose.

The Green Arrow surprised the hell out of me. The Tough Enough winner would hope to have that good of a match a year from now.

SHOCKING!!! John boy your skank isn't over. Deal with it.

Someone help me out here......when was the last time she defended that belt? :lmao:

Charlotte was scheduled to win the Divas championship shortly after making her main roster debut – that is, until John Cena got involved.

According to an insider report from WrestleZone.com, the plan was for Charlotte to capture the Divas championship from Nikki Bella almost immediately upon getting called up. However, John Cena went to Vince McMahon and had Charlotte’s push squashed. He was acting on behalf of his girlfriend Nikki Bella, who is close to setting a record for the longest reigning Divas Champion in history.

Not only was Charlotte’s push scaled back from what it would have been, but Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch’s dominance over WWE’s other Divas was also toned down.

I know, and I want to but he almost broke Rollins face at one point toward the end of the match from lifting his knees when he was on the canvas. It came really close to disaster.

Ultimately the is always going to be Vince's #1 priority. So from that point of view it was a resounding success. Also, it keeps the title on Rollins which is 100% the right move, and he got to look like he may have won the match anyway, regardless of the interference.

The NXT women's title match is my favorite match of 2015, the match was amazing, and the story may have been even better. I could go on about everything I loved about it, but instead I'll just copy/paste what Brandon Stroud thought of it, because it says everything I want to say and more:

NXT isn’t afraid to give us perfect moments.

When I explain being a wrestling fan to people, I often say that about 80% of it is garbage. Wrestling is terrible, almost exclusively. It’s regressive, it’s stupid, it’s insulting, it’s embarrassing. We sit through three hours of Raw every week, watching the same bad idea get sewn and reworn, watching the same people distract the same opponents in the same way as last week. Being a wrestling fan is like being Sisyphus, pushing a rock up a hill only for it to roll back down the other side. Sometimes, though, wrestling is great. When wrestling is great — truly, undeniably great — it’s the perfect human artform. It says what nothing else can say, and makes you feel like nothing else can. It takes the love you’ve put into it and funnels it back to you, finally, at long last. Being a wrestling fan is wading through the garbage to get to those moments, because you know they’re coming. You don’t know when, or for how long, but you know they’re there.

Sami Zayn winning the NXT Championship was a perfect moment. It took him 18 months to get there. We watched him earn Cesaro’s respect in a loss, we watched him take his eyes off the prize and lose Championship matches by being too nice. We watched him struggle with his conscience, and the reality that every successful WWE Champion has been a total jerks. The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Hulk Hogan … they were all basically heels who justified their actions because they were being cheered, whether it was the right thing to do or not. They’d take shortcuts, cheat, beat up managers, whatever. Ruthless aggression is what they call it sometimes. Zayn didn’t have that. He wanted to be a Good Dude and win the title on his own terms. At the end of his match he held the NXT Championship in his hands and was ready to use it as a weapon, but threw it down. He wasn’t going to sell out. 18 months brought him here and made him the man he is for a reason. He won, and the good guy was actually a good guy, and it mattered.

At TakeOver: Brooklyn, we got the end of the Sasha Banks vs. Bayley story they’ve spent two years telling. Two years ago, they were enhancement talent. They worked hard and came up on two different paths — Sasha looked into the NXT Oculus, sold her soul and became “The Boss” to create a false air of confidence that’d carry her through the tough decisions of becoming NXT Champion; Bayley stayed true to herself, handed out headbands to special needs kids and hugged little girls cosplaying as her in the front row. She got turned on time and again by every woman she considered a friend. Sasha became champ, got called up to Raw and tapped out the Divas Champion in the main event. Bayley stayed down here in oblivion, getting beaten up by Dana Brooke. Bayley vs. Charlotte happened and Bayley lost, and we got footage of her standing at ringside crying because she’d let her friends and family down. The Divas Revolution started, and Bayley broke her hand. The pre-match video package of her being Back to the Future’d out of the Four Horsewomen of NXT photo says it all.

I don’t know if I’ve been as emotionally invested in a match in my adult life.

NXT isn’t afraid to give us perfect moments.

There are three moments that get me. The first is after Sasha has dismantled Bayley’s wrist guard and started wrecking her hand. She gets Bayley in the Banks Statement, and when Bayley goes for the ropes, Sasha starts stomping her hand. That moment of visceral, competitive rage is the single moment you point to as an example of what NXT does differently with female wrestlers, and how women who wrestle can be everything the men can be if they’re talented, and are given the time, story and audience of the men. This is beyond what the men are doing … this is pro wrestling at its best, where the little things feel life and death, and the physicality of drama becomes everything.

The other two moments come one after the other. Bayley hits a reverse hurricanrana from the top rope, and Sasha comes down on the top of her head. It’s a death blow. Bayley stands up, aggressively throws her scrunchie down and adjusts her pony. This isn’t the Bayley we know who is kinda awkward on the microphone and doesn’t know when to pull the trigger in the ring … this is a CHAMPION. This is a woman who knows she just hit the biggest move of her life and is ready to win. It’s a plasma cannon of goosebumps. The final moment comes seconds after the pin, when Bayley’s on her knees. Everyone’s looking at Bayley, the new champion, but look at Sasha. Watch her face.

She’s crying.

It’s not a cry of sadness, or of happiness, or relief. It’s everything. It’s all the things. It’s the rush of emotion from having wrestled one of the best women’s wrestling matches in WWE history, in front of NXT’s biggest-ever crowd, at its biggest-ever event. It’s finishing a story. It’s the end. It’s the last moment they’ll be them before the curtain call. Everything’s changing. The NXT Women’s Division is becoming the Raw and Smackdown Divas Division, and their job descriptions are changing. They’re not gonna be independent wrestlers trying their best in a Performance Center anymore. They’re gonna be world-traveled millionaires, TV stars, the works. This is the moment when that absolutely happens. This is the reward for years of hard work, for dedication in the face of impossibility, for standing up and making a difference in a sport that has never treated women right, and may never. It’s something. It’s raging against the dying of a light until an entire arena is bright as hell. Also, it’s being dropped on your head and getting Belly-to-Bayley’d out of your shoes. It’severything. All of it.

I loved this match. This is my favorite match of the year. An absolute classic, and the end of an era.

Here’s to hoping the next era knows how to fill those shoes, and that Bayley’s the one to show it how.
Great article. I especially loved that hand stomp in the Banks Statement. You almost never see that kind of attention to detail. That kind of thing makes it seem almost real. I was completely absorbed in the match and story and I missed the early part of both of their careers. I wonder how far back the Network goes on old NXT shows. :oldunsure:

This is the match of the year so far for me also.

Cena never gets nearly the credit he deserves for his ring work. He's been the common denominator is most of the best matches we've seen this year in WWE. It takes two great performers to have great matches.

Screw him if he holds more deserving women wrestlers back, though. if Nikki needs to be champion for a while to help build these girls up and settle their petty vendetta against AJ Lee, that's fine. But the torch absolutely needs to be passed. These women can actually draw money, which you can't say about the Bellas.

For me Charlotte is the least interesting of the "4 horsewomen", but choose one of them.

Will be very interested to see how long they drag out "The Quest For 16". Cena using the Figure Four during the match last night was a nice touch. Could they slow build to WM? Doubtful, but would be interesting.

Good for the crowd during the divas trio match. Doing the wave and completely ignoring the match. Announcers put over the rowdy crowd......they then chant 'boring'.......and shut the announcers right up. Awesome. :lmao: The "Divas Revolution" is ####### garbage when you have Nikki Bella as the champ. And won't defend the title.

And there's not a person alive that be more over for beating Nikki Bella. Every woman on the NXT roster is more talented than Nikki. And Brie needs to get pregnant....the sooner the better.....and get the #### out of the business.

Spot on my friend

The stupid 3 teams thing was bound to fail. They had such an easy angle with Paige being ganged up on by the entire main roster women so she has to go back home to recruit help. It was so easy. It was written for them. Monumental #### up.

NOC, obviously.
Damn it, you are right.
At the last possible second, right when Cena is about to win the title, I'd like to see outside interference by Arn Anderson.

Hell, I would have liked to seen them just come in as a Diva's Shield/NWO type faction and just lay waste to the current roster.

There is so much they could have done with this angle

I know it would have immediately ruined any potential story, but I would have loved Rollins just no-selling the big reveal, and just disappointedly saying,"awww, come on guys! This doesn't even look anything like me", and leaving the the ring all dejected and Charlie Brown-like.

Sting

Dudleys, new Wyatt dude and Brock killing poor Bo was good stuff but I have no interest in Sting getting a title shot.

didn't they turn Sting's quest to fight the authority into a joke gimmick with the nWo and dx very amusingly, but very inexplicably, shoehorned in for no reason?

Did it end with them shaking hands if I recall correctly?

And hey, happy bday vince, but to do the face booked "happy birthday" song and cut back to being snarling heels....

well, go back to the Sopranos example... we all loved Gandolfini... but never in the middle of the show did Silvio say, hey, Jimmy is gonna kill me for this but he's turning 40 so I just want to say we love you happy birthday, now you were saying Tony?

And please, keep these Divas on calendars and not in the ring any more... how have they been in NXT for five years listening to Dusty Rhodes teach them promos twice a week and they sound like a high school play?

The biggest reason why NXT and any other wrestling alliance rules over WWE. Every match has a clean finish.

The 2 biggest PPV matches Cena Vs Rollins & Lesner Vs. Undertaker were both very good matches with awful

screw job endings.Vince is still stuck in his antiquated ways.

I'm as frustrated by the storylines they've chosen for the women as the next person, but I hate when crowds are disrespectful. I guess we've covered this ground before and will probably have to agree to disagree, but they really put their bodies on the line so I'd prefer they not be insulting at least. But yeah, they need to move on from the Bellas as the face of that division. They're getting in Sheamus territory for me.

I never really cared for the Dudleys, but that was a fun moment. I hope they keep the focus on the New Day, though. They have a great thing going there and should be the face of that division still.

I enjoyed seeing Sting, but in the next few weeks they're going to have to tell the story of how a man who wrestled once in the WWE (and lost) deserves a shot at the title.

I'm predicting a career arc similar to the Great Khali or Tensai here. Dominant for a few months, then midcard, then jobber or out of the WWE. To be fair, I know nothing about him at this point, but on the surface he looks like just another meathead. I suppose I should see him perform more before I pass judgment.

I disagree. Heels should cheat to win. I feel like that's fundamental to making money in this business. I get annoyed by people who think "old school" is always better, but in this case I think it is. But I agree those 2 screwjob endings didn't really work.

What works for NXT is that they're not overexposed. When Enzo and Cass start doing their "can't teach that" schtick twice a week on Raw and Smackdown, it's going to get old really fast. A lot of these talents are still very green, but we grade their paper a lot easier because they're something different that we haven't seen a million times already. The undercard matches at takeover could have been done by WWE "superstars" move for move and we would have thought they were boring. And even the ladder match main event wasn't much different than Rollins/Ambrose from MITB, which people barely noticed.

Must be worried about the upcoming ratings hit with the NFL on it's way. Night of Champions - With Sting and potentially the Dudley Boyz in the tag division.

Never would have thought Sting would be trotted out for NOC, Figured Survivor Series, Rumble, and Mania potentially.

I guess with Brock likely going away for a bit again, They can trade places.

Yeah we'll probably have to agree to disagree. I just viewed it as the crowd ####ting all over the storyline and Bella pushes. They (Bellas) don't deserve the push they're getting. They aren't talented. They suck at everything. Can't talk. Can't act. Can't work. Don't Draw. They're nothing to look at either IMO. They need a new profession. That they're linked of the most over (and talented) acts (Cena/Bryan) in the company doesn't entitle them to what they're getting.

Crowd was ####ting on Nikki Bella. Hence the CM Punk chant.....with Nikki being gift wrapped the longest reigning title reign over his wife (and someone that could work) in AJ Lee. And no crowd has any interest whatsoever in Nikki/Brie Bella or Alicia Fox. You can hear a pin drop when they come out. Ever notice how much they pipe in crowd reaction when they come out? (It's even most apparent in person). It's unfortunate for the girls that have to work with them. I don't expect it to end anytime soon.

This same crowd was cheering the #### out of Sasha Banks/Bayley just 2 days earlier. And deservedly so. I thought it was the best women's match I've ever seen. They gave their opinion then (positive) and giving it last night (negative/ignoring the match) because it was terrible. Perhaps someday WWE will realize no one wants to see the Bellas. They're a complete waste of time.

Bellas are like a bad movie. If it sucks, you'll voice your displeasure.

The problem I have with it, is that doing the wave, chanting boring and chanting for JBL, isn't crapping on the Bellas, its crapping on women's wrestling. If the intention was to crap on the Bellas, than chant for Sasha or Bayley or even AJ Lee(not CM Punk), or you know Becky Lynch, who is actually in the match. Its like when crowds hate John Cena and they chant Cena sucks, the message is still about Cena, and not whomever you are cheering for.

The sad part, and the part I disagree most on, is that the Bellas and Alicia Fox are decent wrestlers, when they want to be. The problem is decent should never be considered great, and never be rewarded with a likely record setting championship run. That part last night where they were talking about how they've stayed relevant for 7(or so) years while all the other women fell by the wayside had the exact opposite meaning of what they were shooting for. 7 years of wrestling and mediocre is the result. Think about that, I think Dana Brooke is decent, and she'd never been inside of a ring until this year. So, either Dana Brooke is on pace to be an all-time great, or maybe being decent isn't something 7 year vets should be all that proud of.

So since they Wyatt's have a 3rd member now, who will be the Shield's 3rd?
They should bring up Samoa Joe. They were showcasing this new Wyatt dudes ability to manhandle people. They'll need someone who can't be manhandled by him.

Knowing WWE...they'll bring Rowan back as a Face and have him as the Shield member....but still running that "mind of a child" Wyatt schtick.

Hulk Hogan

Jimmy Hart

Undertaker

Jake the Snake

Buff Bagwell

Kurt Angle

Billy Gunn

The BoogeyMan

Goldust

Al Snow

I maybe have 2-3 options here- No chance

Everyone got 10 random guys aged 45-80'ish

100 wrestlers in total.
Yeah, I don't like your chances with that list. I guess you have to pray for a Jake relapse. From all accounts, Blackjack Mulligan sounds like he may be the next to go.

He wasn't on our list, I was thinking Jimmy Hart, or Jake the Snake myself.

Well Tough Enough is finally over. I picked Tanner and Sara Lee from the start, but thought Josh had a great chance.

Paige just comes off so terrible in the after-show. After trashing the girl who just won the contest, HHH had to step in a few times to talk the girl up.

For as big a train wreck as this was, it gave a fascinating insight into the "WWE Universe" and why Vince bristles when we call it "wrestling". The message we sent to the WWE throughout this process is "we don't care about the wrestling. We wants characters". The 2 absolute worst workers made the finals (1 of them winning it all) despite the fans being given chance after chance to reject them both. Today's fans aren't really much different than the ones who cheered for meatheads like Hogan and Warrior back in the day.

Oh definitely. The wrestling marks will always be in the minority

Let's just put this whole Tough Enough situation behind us, knowing full well that NXT will most likely chew both of the winners up and spit them out, and we won't see them on our TV for much longer.
