Let's see...

Brock used about 5-6 total moves (suplexes, knees, strikes, F-5), but he "carried" the match and is awesome and everyone loves his greatness. (PS: he is great...one of the best, most important wrestlers EVER)

The point of a match is to damage your opponent enough that you can keep their shoulders down for 3 consecutive seconds. Reigns spent ten minutes being beaten within an inch of his life. He somehow managed to damage Brock with the ring post, and he saw a chance to capitalize. Why would he do anything besides high impact moves that he knows and bunch them together as quickly as possible so Brock cannot recover?

That is psychology, folks.
:goodposting:

I think some people focus too much on the moves and holds and miss the story that's being told. Lesnar was utterly dominant for most of the match. When Reigns finally had a chance to get in some offense he had to hit Lesnar with his big moves. He couldn't mess around. His facial expression when he finally had an opening was fantastic. Kind of a "OMG I have a chance here! I'm gonna do it!" Great stuff from both men.
I just rewatched the ending and I have to agree it was perfect. Rollins running around like a mad man before cashing and after winning was just as much :excited: as :lmao: .

It was all very well done. I love that Brock can basically get you in the F5 from virtually anywhere.

Here's how the Belt Breakdown should be:

WORLD - Only defended at PPV's....the way they did Lesnar this year should be the way the World Belt is used.

U.S. - The poor man's belt.................Should be the House Show belt that's defended regularly at non TV shows to give those fans something. It should change hands at those Dark Shows just to give those events the potential to feel special

I.C..........Is by default the World Title of the television shows and the I.C. holder should generally be seen as the Number One contender. He doesn't need to defend it every televised show or even week.....but defending it should feel relatively special.

To that....I'd add two or three more belts just to give singles wrestlers something to do.....

TELEVISION TITLE...................Should be defended every show. This is the one you flip-flop on and don't take too seriously.

CRUSIERWEIGHT.....................It's obvious that fans like smaller, more technical guys.....so bring this one back. Nothing wrong with Itami's defending this regularly. This could also be your "defacto" traveling belt...it could go down to NXT occasionally or even to Japan (if that's something that still happens).

I'd like to see the Hardcore Belt back as I'd love seeing pinfalls in the bathroom, movie theatres, backstage etc. etc.....but I don't think they want to go to that.
I'd agree with all of that except the Cruiserweight belt. I feel like that one holds the smaller guys back too much.

Why would Rollins need to turn face?
I don't think they are trying to turn Rollins face... They just didn't realize how pissed people were to have Reigns shoved in their face and Rollins was their botched attempt at making up for it. When your fan base wants anyone but Reigns to win the belt, then you create the extra problem of your top two heels suddenly being cheered as saviors.

How on earth did they screw this up so badly? Your top face in the company (Bryan) gets wasted in the opening match and wins the JV belt. The guy they want to be the top face ends up getting booed vociferously in the main event. And your best heels get the loudest pops all show (excluding Bryan).

Are they also going to blame this on the mean Philly crowd too?
Here's the thing, though. Reigns IS ready. He was incredible last night, and WWE was right all along. If you aren't willing to cheer for him after what he did last night, you're just being a jerk about it because he's not Daniel Bryan.

Rollins won in the most slimy, undeserving way possible. That's 100% heel.

IWC argument #1: elevate the the IC title!

IWC argument #2: but not on Daniel Bryan though, I like him too much!
What did Reigns show us last night other than he can smile while getting suplexed? The Rocky III beating was a good story that they told, but it didn't show any great talent from Reigns. Did he do anything offensively the whole night other than the super punch and spear?

I'm all for elevating the IC title, but I don't have a lot of faith that they will actually do that. And I don't think it has to be elevated (nor should it be) by guys that are already main event talent. It should be done by guys still working their way up the card.

Also, the label of the "worker's belt" has always annoyed me. The logical extension of this then is that it's OK for the world title to go to a guy that can't work... Which is why the fans were so pissed it was going to be handed to Reigns to begin with.
:goodposting:

While the superman punches and spear looked good, that's literally all he did. That's it. Brock carried the match.
Brock doesn't do many moves either.

Roman was damn impressive last night. The guy signed off on getting thrown around like a rag doll for a good story. Took some stiff punishment and kept coming back. Marks like to trash his cardio, but to come back after all that and hit some big offense. I can't say enough how impressed I was with him. He's definitely ready.
What was Reigns' big offense? I'm not going to pretend that Lesnar is an elite technician at this point (still not bad though), but his suplex arsenal >>>>> super punch + spear.

What is Reigns ready for? Have we seen him in a good match where he wasn't completely carried by the other wrestler? And have we seen him carry on any story lines where his opponent/opponent's manager wasn't asked to do 85% of the talking?

You're not grasping that the flow of the match only have him the chance at those big moves. Watch the DB match... He had more offense.

who all from DX was there?

that was when i was really into wrestling, now i just pop in here to see what the latest is and watch an occasional Raw

sometimes bringing out old dudes strikes me as lame, no matter how much i used to like them.
It was initially X-Pac and New Age Outlaws. HBK showed up out of the blue a few minutes later. They basically had everyone there except Chyna and Rick Rude (RIP).
MR ###?!!?!?!?!

lolol

the road dogg?

sounds awesome though it may have sucked
I'm still confused by Rick Rude being part of DX. I watched DX a lot as a kid and I don't remember Rude being in the group.
He was in the original incarnation of DX with HBK and Triple H as a sort of silent bodyguard in a suit. That lasted only a month or two before WCW signed him away from the WWF with a better deal. It was big news at the time when he showed up on Raw AND Nitro on the same night at the same time. Raw was still pre-recorded every other week and WCW used the opportunity to highlight that they were always live.

IIIRC He was on taped Raw as member of DX and live Nitro as a member of the nWo at the same time. Wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase on both, but shaved his moustache for Nitro.

Reigns is also a really big, strong guy. Why would he mess around with missile dropkicks and crossbows when he has the power to take guys out with slams and spears?

Back on RAW a few weeks ago, he had to use one move to take out a bunch of guys, and that's when he showed he could jump over the top rope onto a bunch of dudes. He doesn't have to use that in a one on one situation though, so he doesn't.

I really, really liked this PPV. I had friends over, so I need to watch it again to get all the talking points I might have missed due to alcohol consumption, but a couple of thoughts:

  • How do you have Rusev come out in a tank, and Cena comes out with a towel. Since so much of the PPV leaned on the Rocky movies, why not have Cena come out in the Red,White and Blue jorts? Or at least come in by Blackhawk Helicopter.
  • I missed the movie tie-in with Sting's entrance. I wish I had missed's HHH's entrance altogether. His last year was so much better. Loved the scarecrows with Bray's entrance. And much like Cena, Undertaker's entrance seemed understated somewhat.
  • I was extremely happy with the Undertaker we saw. Before last night, I didn't want to see him at 32. Now I hope we see a Bray/Taker rematch.
  • Reigns impressed me a lot. Say what you want about the number of moves he performed, he told a hell of a story.

I think the tie-in with Sting's entrance was with the Crow remake coming out later this year/early 2016. Although it wasn't that overt (more than his normal gimmick) that I'm not sure whether it was an intentional, paid promo like Triple H's entrance.

I'll take Bray-Taker part two next year over Taker-Sting. And it's not even close in my eyes.

Those two had great chemistry last night.

So what's going down tonight? It's always the best Raw of the year. You know Sheamus is coming back some how. Does Brock go on a crazed rampage or does he stay home? Should be good and I hope they can build off of the momentum from last night.

ETA: I was off today, so I watched the replay again. I agree with some of the others, this a top 3 Wrestlemania.

I keep Brock off TV for a little bit. If I can do it and still produce a 3-hour show, I give Heyman a few weeks off.

If I'm booking, I start with the Authority in the ring to celebrate their new World champion. Then I have Bryan come to the ring to show off his new hardware, and then Cena to show off his.

Steph decides that each new champion is going to defend their title TONIGHT, right here in (insert city name here)!! She decides that Cena will defend against Kane, and Bryan will defend against Big Show. (Under the premise of getting all the belts under the Authority, but let's be honest, they are jobber matches). And then Rollins makes a big deal about everyone else in the back still being beat up from a brutal Mania. He will fight anyone. Out comes Sheamus.

I like the cut of your jib.

Thought it was a very good Mania, my son liked it too. I've seen the last 2 after a long hiatus and liked this one better for sure.

I never got big deal with Sheamus...surprised you guys mention his return as much as you do. I think Orton will have a solid claim to getting a title shot tonight, considering he beat Rollins yesterday. Will be interested to see if/how they botch up the few shows after WM and lose all the steam they built up.

I like the stories, but I have no desire to see Kane, Big Show, or Sheamus. Orton has to be in Rollins first defense somehow, since he just beat him.

I'd love to see the Hardcore belt back under 24/7 rules. That was always entertaining. It doesn't even need to be the Hardcore title, since they're trying to be all PG. Let the TV title be 24/7, but just call it the 24/7 Championship.

I thought the Sting/HHH match was very entertaining even before all the nWo/DX shenanigans. What I don't like is that it was basically WWE's way of patting themselves on the back once again for winning the Monday Night Wars 15 years ago. I hope one day they get over over themselves and realize that they need to focus on keeping their current fan base. I would have rather the match have played out to not be WCW related at all (as Sting stated) and it was simply he vs the Authority. Then you have anyone who have had their problems with Authority get Sting's back (*cough* Stone Cold Stunner *cough*).

I've wanted the TV title back forever now. Obviously it would be defended on each show, and I might even put it at the same time every show, right at the beginning of the third hour, almost the next to last match every show. The story writes itself, if you are the TV champ, you are getting on TV and you are getting TV checks. Could see a Rob Van Dam type run from someone like Ziggler.

Okay, I wanted to post last night during the event, but I was drinking and then the wife wanted to watch the Walking Dead finale after WM, so I had to give her that.

That was a great card top to bottom--even the throw away tag team match brought out the A-game in those guys and I guess that's what disappoints the WWE fans. We saw what the product can be and some nights it just isn't there.

I wasn't too mad about Big Show winning--throw the old guy a bone and give him one since he has been a worker in the company.

I wasn't as jazzed by the Orton/Rollins match. I mean Orton had such a pop when he returned, but the slow turn against the Authority kind of killed that IMO. I mean the fans didn't seem up for him when he came out last night and you could almost see him imploring the fans to cheer for him. Other than the finish, I thought the match was underwhelming.

I will be interested to see if Ambrose is really hurt and if he even appears tonight.

The Sting/HHH match was also slow and plodding, but business picked up and I actually liked the NWO/DX angle.

The main event was good, but I knew Rollins would cash so it didn't come as too much of a surprise.

I think the early start of the show took away from some of the entrances with it being so light outside and the ringside mics kept picking up the spot calls, which was distracting.

Overall a great PPV!!

Thought on next year's WM:

They need to fill Jerryworld and who can do that? Stone Cold. Maybe a three way match between Austin/Rock/HHH??

They will do everything in their power to fill Jerryworld and do so. I'm all for hearing that glass break one. more. time.

Sheamus returns...crowd chanting "You look stupid"

ETA: Beats the crap out of Bryan and Ziggler.

Dude, I don't get it. JBL is gold. Why?
Guy adds nothing. Tries waaay too hard to be funny. Frequently just buries the guys in the ring (on the rare time he actually talks about anything going on in the ring). Think he's by far the worst 'announcer' employed by WWE today.

An empty seat is better than JBL IMO. i didn't think he was this terrible when he did Smackdown with Cole (however long that was)

Fair enough. Not knocking you, I'll just disagree.
