In an interview with Scott Fishman of TV Insider, Tony Khan confirmed changes to the AEW Dynamite and Rampage sets beginning next year:
"I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag necessarily, especially so close to the big day. But at the start of 2023, we’re going to open the year on Wednesday, January 4 with the first Dynamite in Seattle, marking a full year of Dynamite on TBS.
We’ll definitely have a new look, to say the least. I’m excited about it. I think it’s a nice thing to present to the fans, but frankly, I’ve found more so than ever, the more you talk about these things. When you build them up, you don’t want to create expectations that are impossible. I will say the set will be beautiful though. The look of Rampage will also be different.
This will affect the way people view AEW on Wednesdays and Fridays in terms of presentation with the set and the show with the same great action,"

WON: WWE threatened to fire Hall of Famer and current NXT producer D-Von, if he appeared at the Battleground Championship Wrestling “Tribute to the Extreme” show on back on Saturday, December 17.
WWE felt BCW was infringing on their intellectual property but couldn’t actually do anything to them, since they were not promoting it as an ECW event.
D-Von was originally to be in the corner of his former partner Bully Ray in his match against Matt Cardona.

New Japan’s final card of the year was centered around the end of the villainous Suzuki-gun group.
Friday’s “Road to the Tokyo Dome” show at Korakuen Hall was headlined by the members of the group paired up in an eight-man tag and concluded with Zack Sabre Jr. pinning the group’s leader, Minoru Suzuki to win.
Each member then took turns speaking about their experiences in working in Suzuki-gun, and sharing their appreciation of Minoru Suzuki, who created and launched the group almost eleven years ago to the day.
The farewell address also included a surprise appearance by Takashi Iizuka, who retired in 2019

All Elite Wrestling are being cautious with Adam Cole and there is still no timetable on when he will return to the squared circle from his severe concussion.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer commented:
"He's doing much better. The last I heard is they were being cautious. Don't have any time frame for a return. With concussions, you just can't predict a time frame.”

It's believed Sasha's contract is out with WWE already. She came to terms with NJPW in November and is already in Japan. I wonder if her husband set up a train for her already so he can watch on the phone?

For those who don't know around the time of the Paige tape Sasha did a candid interview talking about her career and her relationship with her family and then new husband who works for WWE as a ring gear designer. She told them that her husband recruits guys in cities they go to and run trains on her while he watches. I believe the interview was on WWE's website at the time and got passed by because of the Paige Stuff. The one interview from that time you can now see was heavily edited and there's things that get referenced in the interview at points which leads to asking did I miss something or was edited out.

After defeating JR Kratos in a hard hitting match, Fred Rosser was attacked by “Pretty” Peter Avalon, who made it clear that he would be the next to challenge for the New Japan Strong Openweight Championship

Fred Rosser is the former Darren Young FIY

I'd love to see Sami in AEW though and team up with Moxley again like they did in the Indies or do a rivalry program together. Those were some great matches either between them or a tag team.

According to Wrestling Inc, Sami Callihan’s Impact Wrestling contract is reportedly set to expire soon.
Callihan reportedly signed a 2-year extension back in February or March of 2021 to remain with the company.
Wrestling Inc. made note that it is entirely possible Callihan will re-sign with the company, as he has been a mainstay on television for the past few years.
Callihan’s is also the long time boyfriend of one half of the Knockouts Tag Team Champions Jessicka Havok.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it's believed that former 16-time World Champion John Cena will be working Wrestlemania 39, which is set to take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Cena will be unavailable for in-ring appearances during most of February and March, as he will be filming a movie outside of the United States. This timeframe would also remove Cena from wrestling at WWE Elimination Chamber in February, as that Premium Live Event takes place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Despite his acting commitments though, WWE is reportedly under the impression that Cena is "working on his schedule" to ensure his presence at Mania.
The extent of Cena's expected appearance at this years WrestleMania is still unknown at this time, but a match with Austin Theory was discussed prior to Vince McMahon's sudden retirement over the summer.
Though he didn't wrestle on the show, Cena did appear on the 6/27 edition of "Raw" to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of his debut in WWE. He met Theory in a backstage segment , but no follow-up story ensued.

Man I find it really hard to believe she gave an on the record interview where she admitted to having trains run on her while she cucked her hubby. I mean in what possible context would she be willing to put that out into the world?

You are a gentleman and a scholar. Watching in the background this morning while working.

Still crazy that this was, in my opinion, peak Flair at 33 years old, and he goes on to wrestle another 40 years. Also, the fact that Kerry is in that ring at 22 (even David at 24) which would be unheard of giving the title to someone that young, all apologies to Randal Keith Orton. I can't imagine Flair loved working with guys that green, but maybe he did. 5 star match with a broom and everything.

Also, before that match, the Freebirds had been huge faces for the two months they had been in WCCW and earlier that night, Hayes and Gordy won the first Six-Man Tag Belts with David Von Erich as their third member (who gave his part of the title to Buddy Roberts, who hadn't arrived yet to the territory, right after the match.) The storytelling they were doing between 1982 and 1984 was just a great time.

I’m trying to understand Hayes’ role there. He “refereed once in Japan”, but his performance - while pretty much even handed - seemed contrived. You could work Gordy’s spot another way. I guess I’m used to NY booking where an interference spot like that is in the last 30 seconds. The fact they wrestled for another 4-5 seems odd to me.

Execution is strange. The better way would have been Gordy to slam the door on Kerry's head, laying him out. Hayes dramatically gesturing to Flair to pin Kerry and leaves the cage. Flair gets the heel pin and moves down the road, coming back next time to probably drop the belt to David. Regardless, that cage door slam was shown for months afterwards and the angle was perfect.

But this is Ric Flair, Michael PS Hayes and Gary Hart all involved in the match layout I'm sure. Hayes with a "HEY, I gotta Eye-Deer, doot doot doot." Too many cooks and all of that.

I was catching up on "Tales from the Territories" last night and watched this episode.

Breaking Rush brother Dragon Lee announces signing with WWENXT after winning AAA tag belts with Brother Dralistico against FTR last night

Jooooooooooohn Ceeeeeeeeena!!!!! :towelwave:

LA Knight is really outshining Bray in their program. Guy is such a good talker. Little chance IMO they're able to keep him a heel as the crowd will inevitably cheer him. Hoping Uncle Howdy is Boo Dallas :excited:

Great episode of Smackdown to end the year

RIP Don West :crying:

Most will remember him from Shop from Home from back in the day. Loved listening to this guy

I loved Don in TNA. One of these days when I get the time I'm going to but a TNA sub to watch the old Impact from when it first started to when The Main Event Mafia came in which is when I watched TNA more consistently. Don was integral with Mike Tenay

Matt Tremont is now the new Independent Wrestling Television World Champion, winning the title last night.
For those unaware, the IWTV World Championship is the top belt in the world of independent pro wrestling.
The title has previously been held but such wrestlers as Jonathan Gresham, Tracy Williams, Orange Cassidy (x2), Kris Statlander, Erick Stevens, WARHORSE, Lee Moriarty, Wheeler Yuta, Alex Shelley and AC Mack.

Match 7 in the best of seven series between the Elite and Death Triangle on January 11th in Los Angeles has been made a ladder match for the AEW Trios Titles.
The show will be attended by key executives of Warner Brothers Discovery, the parent company of TBS and TNT, who will be seeing AEW live for the first time.
This may help explain why the January 11 "Dynamite" is being stacked by AEW CEO & President Tony Khan.
Other matches on the 1/11/23 show include:
Dr. Britt Baker and AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter vs. Saraya and a mystery opponent.
Jon Moxley vs. “Hangman" Adam Page
An appearance from AEW World Champion MJF.
And much, much more.
To this point, there have been no rumblings of any discontent from WBD over its relationship with AEW.
In September, Tony Khan stated that his company enjoyed a "great partnership" with WBD, adding how "they have been really good to us" while predicting the relationship will continue along that path in 2023.
Khan has also maintained his fidelity to WBD, opting not to shop around the Ring of Honor broadcast rights to other companies, even after WBD had passed.
As a result, an upcoming ROH television show will air as part of a revamped “Honor Club” sometime in the new year and not on another rival cable network.

WON: Dragon Lee has reportedly signed a three-year deal with WWE, that is for more than the standard level NXT contract, but not as much as a main roster deal.
AEW reportedly made a pitch and offered much more money, but, Lee turned them down, because it was a dream of his as a child to one day perform for WWE.
WWE contracts have a confidentiality clause that prevents talent from stating publicly how much they make, but, many wrestlers who have left WWE and are no longer under that clause, have stated that the salary for a mid-level entry wrestler starts close to $250,000.
The belief is that he would be the second highest paid current NXT wrestler behind Apollo Crews, now that Mandy Rose has been released from the company.
Lee’s new deal does call for pay increases with each year, but the hope he was given is that he would be brought up and have a main roster contract by 2024.

FTR is done with AAA, at least for now.
The AEW stars lost the AAA Tag Team titles earlier this week to the super team of Dragon Lee and Dralístico.
Dax and Cash held the belts for record 438 days and defended them a total of 4 times in the time span.
The championships are now vacant, after Dragon Lee’s shock announcement that he had signed with WWE and would start with the company imminently.

Charlotte Flair is the SmackDown Women’s Champion.
Charlotte returned on SmackDown tonight, and challenged Ronda Rousey, after she had already been in a 15 minute match with Raquel Rodriguez.

Dave Meltzer reported in today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Chris Jericho and other top talents told the AEW locker room they would make sure Punk is not brought back to the promotion, despite several people calling for the Elite and Punk to settle their problems.
Jericho previously reportedly called Punk a "cancer” to AEW, after the post All Out backstage altercation.
Jericho was mad at Punk's lack of professionalism during his All Out media scrum. Punk allegedly told Jericho to “**** off” and to mind his own business.
Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley have established themselves as the locker room leaders within the AEW locker room since the incident.
On a potential Punk return, Meltzer noted nothing has really changed, despite Dax Harwood openly pleading on his new podcast for all parties to talk and make up.

Tay Melo and Sammy Guevara were pulled from the AAA event in Mexico Wednesday by All Elite Wrestling, resulting in the Guevara’s being stripped of their AAA Mixed World Tag Team Championships, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
AEW reportedly wanted to book the Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale match against TayJay a couple of weeks ago, but couldn’t because Willow was sick.
On air at the AAA show, Konnan mentioned that Sammy and Tay did not show up to the event because the company would not “give in to their outlandish demands” and decided not to get on their plane.
This, of course, was a storyline reason, as AEW President Tony Khan made the decision to pull Melo and book her for this past Wednesday’s “Dynamite” instead. This was allegedly done, according to AAA “last minute” and officials for the Mexican promotion were not happy with that decision, to say the least.
Meltzer also made mention that AAA is now currently reevaluating their plans to put their titles on outside talent, because of this incident. But, Meltzer also stated that the only person that could realistically walk into AAA tomorrow and win a title, would be Kenny Omega, considering the company did not want to take the AAA Mega Championship off him in 2021, but had to, because of Omega’s multiple injuries last year.

STARDOM is reportedly planning on holding one of their biggest events ever in early April of 2023.
Mercedes Varnado (Sasha Banks) has committed to this show to eaither wrestle or appear. Rossy Ogawa has allegedly negotiated a deal with Meiko Satomura for Sendai Girls to appear at the super show as well.
STARDOM has also reached out to multiple female free agents and are currently negotiating with several companies to make this a multi-promotional event.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW made a healthy offer to Dragon Lee but the 27-year-old opted to sign with WWE instead.
Lee reportedly sought out advice from other wrestlers before he made a final decision and those he spoke to told him that NXT would be the better option to make a name for himself in the United States, as they thought he would get lost in the shuffle in All Elite Wrestling, due to the promotion's currently overcrowded roster.
Lee is still in Mexico but plans to relocate to Orlando, FL in February, to train at the WWE Perfomance Center.

Reports came out last night that AJ Styles suffered an injury during a live event in Hershey, Pennsylvania, as part of WWE's holiday tour and PWInsider has confirmed that it is 100 percent legitimate, and isn't part of any storyline. The situation is "likely" an ankle injury and the former WWE Champion is expected to be getting the situation checked out as soon as possible, but until that has taken place there is no way of even knowing how serious it is, or how long he will be out.
It was noted that Styles was having issues putting weight onto his left foot after the match, and he did have to be walked by WWE officials to the back. Footage online from fans in attendance showcased the "X" symbol being flashed by the referee, which is the sign of a real serious injury in the wrestling business.
Styles had been part of a six-man match that saw The O.C. (Styles, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) compete against The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest & Dominik Mysterio), but it had to be stopped as a result of the injury about three quarters of the way through.
Neither Styles nor any other member of The O.C. has made any official comments about the injury situation, but further updates will come once Styles has been checked. He was originally expected to be facing Seth Rollins tonight at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Canada, but that is now likely to be changed.

WON: Stardom's April 23 show next year at the Yokohama Arena would be the attempt to do the biggest women’s show in decades. This is the show Sasha Banks committed to doing for Stardom. They are also working with multiple companies/free agents (i.e. Sendai Girls) for this date.

Heck, most of AAA's titles were on foreign talent. My opinion is that Mexican wrestling is less dependent on titles to get people over.
