*** Official Redskins vs. Giants 12/30/06 Game Thread *** (1 Viewer)

I really hate Tiki, but this is an unreal goodbye game. I still say he plays next year Daddy!
As a Giants fan, and a Tiki fan except for his antics this past half year which, imo, have really contributed to the team losing its way, and demonstrating a big lack of leadership and heart, I wish he would be back another year also. One more year like the last 5-6 and it begins to get tough to keep him out of the hall of fame (he would then have over 70 TDs, 11500-12000 rushing yards, another 5500+ receiving yards). But, seeing how he didnt have it in him to focus this year, I don't see him coming back, and if he truly is done, that is for the best.Meanwhile, Tiki is going to need to get some more cause the Giants defense is pathetic late in games.Ugh.

Gumble can knob slobber with the best of them, can't he? I think he's going to start stalking Cambell now.... he's obviously in love.

Ugh.
When you consider any RB into the Hall Debate, while the Hall does love backs, Thurman Thomas is not yet in. That should speak volumes about the standards. My opinion, the recent locks not yet in the hall:

Emmitt

Ladanian

Curtis Martin

Marshall Faulk

Borderline but should go in:

Bettis

Shaun Alexander

Borderline but could go in:

Ricky Watters

Eddie George

Too brief a window of brillance, could make it, but probably not:

Edgerrin James

Terrell Davis

Priest Holmes

Jamal Lewis

Too early to tell but probably not:

Rudi Johnson

Deuce McCalister

Fred Taylor

I think Tiki is clearly ahead of the last three, but he never really touched the short brillance of Edge/TD/Priest and JLewis and is he really better than even Eddie George or Watters?

Playing in New York will help him, but do the math, he's gonna have an uphill climb going in the hall. Check out the "modern era" backs in the hall, they are elite and you don't second guess them:

And I'm a Giants fan, but if Tiki(or frankly most of these guys) go in ahead of the truly dominant Thurman Thomas, there's some questions to be answered

Tiki Barber is head and shoulders above every other player on the field.

Jason Campbell is getting better and is going to be an OK quarterback. That one lobbed pass to Cooley on the right side was great.

Eeyore Manning just looks sadder and sadder.

Next year Washington should try placing players on the field to try a radical new strategy: "playing defense".

it really feels like im at mass right now with gumbel's lame annecdotes and reverend collinsworth's attire...

maybe CC is praying for a new play-by-play commentating partner.

:excited:

Joe Gibbs is suckering these guys, get it to 2 minutes and make the rookie beat you. To pass this late in the game!

"Take over on downs" again.

Not looking to pimp Tiki for the hall. I think he ends up out, imo anyway. But another year or so would make it interesting. Two more years like this (and even if he wanted to play, you wonder when he would break down) and he would be in.BTW, you are right... Thurman should totally be in. He was dominant.

UGH I HATE GUMBEL.

This Giants will turn it over on downs?

No they wont, idiot. They will punt it on 4th.

BTW, that dumb ### viagra ad with the guy and the freakin' VCR (yeah, real genius to think about recording a show youll miss, btw) irritates me almost as much as Coughlin's ineptitude.

Ok... why is Tiki not in the game?

Jacobs HAS put the ball on the ground this year. You have one of if not the best Giants RB ever - and yet you sit him here? God I hate this coaching staff.*

* Unless Tiki already retired.

The game was over. they have a playoff game to play. I would ask why Barber SHOULD be in the game. Imagine if Barber got hurt in garbage time? I'll admit the giants CS has been very questionable at times this year, but you wanted Barber in there? That's nuts.

Thank god the giants won, but Coughlin got to go, he probably will even if they win in the playoffs, because there will be a ne GM here and he will want a new coach.

HOW THE FREAKIN HELL DIDNT WE GO FOR THE 2 POINT CONVERSION WHEN IT WAS A 12 POINT GAME WITH 6 MINUTES LEFT?

sorry for shouting but that extra point almost cost us the season

Yes. At the time, the Giants needed one last first down to finally kill it. As long as they had to hand off, I wanted Tiki - not the hot headed Jacobs (as demonstrated by his reaction at the end of the game) who has put the ball on the ground in some important situations this year, handling the ball. This is to essentially Clinch the playoff. If you need to kill any clock, even one or two more plays, you give it to Tiki. Not the young guy that has a better chance to cause a penalty, do something stupid or fumble.

Watching the post game with Barber. Is there a guy that seriously talks about how good he is more than Barber? He of course is very good but I don't hear other players talking it as much as he does.

The Chad Johnsons are funny about it but Barber just keeps seriously talking about how good he is at his job and how mere mortals could never understand the effort involved in getting ready to play :goodposting:

I would love to see this board if Peyton Manning said, "I know I'm very good"

I was thinking the same thing. I went on a Mini rant earlier this week about Tiki. His ego has ballooned. I heard about one word of team for every 5-10 about how great a Giant Tiki has been, how he knows that he's played such a big role in the team for so long blah blah.No sincere joy or excitement for getting to the playoffs, either. Kinda sad. I so want to like Tiki more and more as he retires, but the opposite has happened over the last few months.

Ladell Betts with a nice game PPR.

Too bad they pulled him at the GL for Duckett. :moneybag:

Despite that Betts was a fine start down the strech, for Portis owners or otherwise.

Thanks Koya,That is exactly how I'm seeing it. And the playoff / last game attitude of ;) he seems to be showing is weird as you say. I feel exactly like you do in that I thought I'd be liking it more as he rode off in the sunset but find myself liking less.J

He's a formerly-likeable guy who made himself into a dislikeable guy with absolutely no assistance from the press or from detractors this year. What a self-inflated bore he's become. There has to be some resentment of that in the Giants locker room. When they lose their first playoff game I'd guess we'll be hearing some of that. And they'll likely lose their first playoff game. This win over the Redskins was not impressive, the Redskin defense just stunk the whole game.
