*** Official *** Rogue One - A Star Wars Story (1 Viewer)

Tonight is the night!  First showing 7pm on a 3d UltraScreen with leather recliners.  Myself, wife, brother,  and in a couple days soon be be 10yr old.  Got to take him last year for Force Awakens on his bday.

I've got 6 tickets lined up for the family on Tuesday (movie theater up here has $5 Tuesday plus Superscreen/recliners), Dad and his wife and I guess I'll determine tonight if my 5yr old daughter can go.  Yup one of those parents but she likes watching Star Wars and Superhero movies...

I don't think you would have had to watched the prequels to understand Rogue One.
I think it is safe to say Disney will probably never refer to the Prequels ever as they have truly rebooted the Star Wars franchise us pioneer fans loved so dearly growin up.

Sunday afternoon can't get here soon enough. So pumped.

When you go to the Star Wars store at Disney springs in Orlando, you can find toys, mugs, shirts, hats, posters, whatever you want for episodes 4-7 and rogue one.

I have yet to see one item displayed for 1-3. In Disney's eyes it seems like those movies flat out never happened.

Just delivered: Star Wars PJs from Easy for my kids' Elf on the shelf. Gonna rock those tonight and set them up with a bunch of my son's SW figures and have them with the movie tickets.  :P

I'm not sure that's exactly true. The way I heard it described, the events of that movie directly set in motion the rest of the series.

In fact, the exact words of the guy were "Episode 4 would start about 10 minutes after the end of Rogue One."
Yes, but the story in Rogue One isn't part of the story being told in the Episode movies, the story of the Skywalkers.

At least, that's how I understand it. It's a side story.

I hope they do a side story on Jabba's dancing girls next.  That would be pretty cool.

I want to see an origin story on the formation of Sy Snootles and the Max Rebo Band.....follow their trials and tribulations as they try to break into the post Figrin D"an and the Modal Nodes Tattooine music scene against the backdrop of Jabba the Hutts rise to power.  Show how band leaders Sy Snootles and Max Rebo were at odds over what they played; Sy wanting to go into more jizz wailer, experimental stuff while Max was pushing for more of a raw sound.....all the while having both of them having to deal with Droopy McCools rampant death stick abuse troubles.  Kind of like The Doors meets Goodfellas meets Mo Better Blues meets The Pianist....except with aliens.

Yeah, but the dancing girls angle would be more fun....and boobs.

Yes, the theory is that these "Star Wars Stories" are not specifically part of the "Saga" (Eps 1-7+) but there's no denying that this particular Story is so tied in with the events of New Hope that it doesn't truly "stand alone" on its own. But yes, it's not about the bloodlines of Eps 1-7+, that's true.

The next Story up is stand-alone Han Solo movie which, again, ties right into what we know from the Saga series.

It'll be interesting to see if, down the line, we do get some stories that are truly stand-alone and have no tie in to anything in the Saga except for there maybe being mention of the Empire and Rebellion and establishing it's in that univierse A Long Time Ago... but nothing else beyond that. Not a single overlapping character. Lots of room for creativity there for sure.

employee at local theater watched it last night.   theaters have to "preview" all movies.    Anyhow talked to him a minute ago he said it was quote "Great"

that'll do

when it was dark in the final scene and you hear Vader breathing and then all you see is his light saber turn on, I got wood ?

Episodes I-III were to the Star Wars franchise what Gary Cherone was to Van Halen.

Simply outstanding. If I didn't have my kids with me I would have gone right back in and watched the 10pm showing. By far the most "adult" of the Star Wars movies, yet my kids still really enjoyed it.

This is a war movie filmed in the Star Wars Universe. It made the Battle of Endor look like it was shot on a soundstage. Gritty, dark, with all the proper nods to the other films in place.

I LOVED it.  Not ready to worry about ranking it, as I'm sure many will.

But it was awesome.

Theres a certain freedom in creating a movie like this.  That's what these saga movies can provide, the ability for directors to make awesome films with limited need to "tie in" many plot lines to the film.

10 times better than I thought it would be.  And that was the dark movie that 3 should have been.

Rogue One: A Parking Lot Story

Disney ruined sports thru ESPN and now they bought up Star Wars and ruining that next.

Is there an even number of race in the cast for each demographic and market that Disney wants to launch in?

Enjoy!

Unless it's just my imagination I found it odd that I noticed a lot of hints of prequel music in this movie.

Thought it was good. For whatever reason was a little underwhelmed at Vader's introduction but pretty cool seeing him in the bacta tank. A whole lot of nice tie ins, but not forced, throughout the movie. Tarkin CGI was done very well, Leia on the other hand I thought she looked terrible. Cool ending nonetheless.

Eta: they had to kill off K-2?!? He had an easy out to fit back in as an imperial droid but they lit him up anyway. :sadbanana:

Just got back.  Not sure how I feel about this one.  It seemed slow to start and then, the action in the second half seemed to under-whelm me.  The story seemed to be very choppy in it's delivery.  There was also a lack of character development.  And for the love of god, I wish the directors would quit putting old ladies in the cockpits of fighters.  Stupid.

Other than that, it's still very much Star Wars and it's worth the price of admission.  K2-SO is funny as ####.  I give it a 7 out of 10.

I think ranking these movies is almost impossible because I've seen 4-7 a dozen times and they are old news to me now, while these last two are new and exciting. I will say however,

6. Sith

7. Clones

8. Whatever the #### the first one was called

I enjoyed it as well. Went to 7:45 and both kids, 9&7 fell asleep. Maybe be of the two hours of previews. Full length previews for Logan, fast and furious 900, King Kong, Spider-Man, sing, baby boss, pirates of Caribbean and guardians of galaxy 2.

Both said they enjoyed what they saw

I'm assuming

no rebels made it out alive since no one knew how to take the atat out in empire

really enjoyed the

rancour chess game being played and the guy and his walrus buddy who messed with Luke making an appearance. I'm sure I'm missing more.

I thought it was a little slow as well. But it picked up for me. I had a hard time understanding some of the thicker accents.

Need to look it up but the blind guy looked a lot like lp man

Seriously, is the 'ignore' feature gone?

ETA: Found it, but totally not intuitive at all.

Going to see it on Saturday although am a little disappointed there's another Death Star in it.

Am I right? :highfive:

Just saw it.  Agree that it is the most "adult" Star Wars movie.  Not a lot of cutsie stuff in this one, and I think that was a good thing.  This is really a drama.  I felt the first half was a little slow, but the finale was pretty spectacular.  The human cgi effects were a little off-putting, but necessary to tell the full story.  I'll probably watch it again, and think it may grow on me more, but probably a 7 out of 10 for me.  Definitely worth watching, but if you are taking kids, I could see them getting bored.  Better than the prequels and Force Awakens, IMO.

Thank you...... I was worried we were going to get run over by fan boys.  I didn't walk away super impressed.  The first hour was whatever.  I didn't feel connected to the protagonist and the story felt forced.

The actor who has the best shot at an oscar died in 1994 and none of the rest did anything for me.  The very ending was cool but it felt like yoda at the end of clones.

im happy I saw it but a passive SW fan doesn't walk away loving this movie.  A newer SW fan likes it less.

"I'm on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan!"

"Uhhhh....what the hell are you talking about? We've been chasing your ship for the past hour! We know exactly where you just came from!"

Took me a while but the pilot was Naz

 I need to see this another few times to take it all in. The opening without a scroll threw me off too. The score was so close to Star Wars, but yet different enough to give it its own feel which I liked. Obviously the Imperial Death March with Vader etc was "original" but overall it had a different vibe if that makes any sense. At least to me....and not like the prequels to whomever said that. It could be, but I felt different. Could just be me though.

Overall though, I loved it. Excellent stand alone movie with subtle tie-ins. 2 thumbs up, 5 stars, 3/4 chub and all that good stuff. Visually stunning and probably the best space battle...well, ever. I had sweaty palms and was grinning the entire time on Scariff (sp?). I shed a half a tear when Leia said "Hope"

Getting old so my knees started to hurt in the cramped, old school chairs at my IMAX cinema. Will be opting for the recliners upon my next viewing(s). Was that CGRJoe who did the DBox seats? How was that? Not that it matters since they're nowhere near me.

Might have some more thoughts in the morning but I've pounded a few beers since I got home an hour ago to try and calm down. G'nite

It was okay. I enjoyed it, but the acting was just okay, it was too predictable, it lacked the fun of a Star Wars movie but wasn't gritty enough to really be a war movie. I would have liked to see it, before all the reshoots.

Had tickets for 9:45am today (my off-Friday)...then came the text from the school district, 2 hour delay for the kids...there goes that.

Liked it alot... but some things stuck in my craw. I rewatched the trailers and realized alot of those scenes weren't actually IN the movie, or were DRASTICALLY different. It was like the theater cut had an entirely different ending.
