Yes Im wearing a death star shirt sitting here waiting for previews to start.
I wore a plastic Vader mask with a glow up plastic lightsaber. I'm that guy. I did it just to spite my woman. Bucket list...check.

This was before the movie. Quite frankly, I wore it all day. Oh, the look on her face.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I did it.

Why are people #####ing about character development as a prequel to a New Hope when you knew these characters are around for only 1 movie?
Because these movies are sacred to me and i hold them to a higher standard. The movie was very good. It just could have been great.

I just think many are overestimating the character development in a New Hope.  It took multiple movies to fully develop Skywalker and Solo.

What more did you want developed? We saw more of Jyn than we did of Rey. We know Jyns whole life story basically and her motivations and skill are pretty clearly established.

Cassian is pretty clear too. He's a rebel who does whatever it takes to get the job done. Yet he grew beyond that because he wanted to be more than just a killer with a cause.

IP man and his buddy were pretty clearly the wandering bad asses that we get from most action movies. We got what we needed for them.

The pilot? His motivations were pretty clear. He believed in Gaelan enough to throw away everything he had done to that point in his life.

Then there's Gaelan. Clearly conflicted about his role in making a weapon that kills planets.  Much like the scientists that invented the atom bomb, he had an immense amount of guilt. But at the same time, he knee the only way to be useful was to be on the project and sabotage it than to let some one else finish it.

Who else were you concerned about here? All these characters gave way more depth and back story than any one from TFA.

The Force Awakens is not going to age well. Too many scenes felt "small" like on a sound stage and not in a bigger world. The action and scope of the film were on par with the overall story of Star Wars.

Rogue One did not feel small and it played out well, overall. The action sequences and such did not feel like they were on a sound stage at all. The story was better than expected. I think Rogue One will age better than TFA.

Me and my buddy took our kids Thursday night; he's 44, married with two kids and wore this.

Yeah, if you didn't like this movie I don't know if we can be friends. That was fracking awesome.

I would so pay to see this again in IMAX. Maybe 3 or 4 times. Phenomenal movie.

Just got back from the movie, thought it was great. Knew it was a mistake bringing the wife when she asks when they are on Yavin IV if this was the bad guy base.

/sigh

I'm watching a New Hope now on TNS. It's the scene where they are walking Chewey to the jail to rescue the princess. WHY are there so many old dude imperials randomly walking around.  I don't remember this being here before.  Did they add backround peeps years later?  #bluehairs

They were always there.  It gave the Death Star a feel of being a real military facility with a lot of officers moving about.

Good breakdown, Insein.

I think you're even selling the monk and his protector a little short--we know even more about them and their motivations, and it is much better than just being wandering badasses. They were dedicated to guarding that ancient temple that was connected to the Jedi and their crystals in some way (and the monk guy being Force-sensitive makes sense here too)--when that purpose was taken from them they found the next best cause to the extinct Jedi Order--the Rebel Alliance.

Which brings me to another cool thing--maybe this was always Expanded Universe lore, but making the Death Star the ultimate perversion by having the crystals used in lightsabers be the source of the superlaser's power, making it even more of an abomination, I thought that was cool. The lightsaber was "a more elegant weapon for a more civilized time", after all. A weapon that was not just in the complete, careful control of its Jedi owner, but also served as a universal symbol of their belief in justice and order. To have that technology twisted into a planet-killing weapon of mass destruction, wow that is an extra layer of evil.

Another quibble I had was the killing of Lyra and the attempted killing of Jyn.  I know it was to set a tone that Krennic was a bad guy and have Jyn escape, but when you are expecting someone to use their brains to fix the Death Star you would go out of your way to make sure that Lyra was either a willing participant or a prisoner.  Under no scenario would killing the child even be a thought.

i was confused most of the movie.  I'm not a hardcore StarWars guy but have seen all the movies.  Just felt lost the whole time.  Liked the last one a lot more.

It's really not a good idea to expect any Star Wars movie to employ logic.

Did they ever say they wanted to kill Jyn?  I recall him saying "they have a child.  Find her!" so they certainly could have been going the take the kid prisoner route.

Let's just settle on the fact that people who liked this movie have good taste in film, are attractive and probably great parents. People that hate it are stupid #######s. Really simplifies the discussion.

Pretty much how my wife felt.
Yea my wife asked me a few times "who is that" but she enjoyed it a lot. She was sad the droid and blind guy died. Liked them both a lot.

I really can't believe they nuked the whole cast. Awesome.

One of those rare times where I need to say I was wrong.

Saw it in a luxury theater with the leather recliners. Last movie we saw in 3D was Mad Max, I don't think 3D made the movie better in any particular way but I got caught up in this movie quick.

When the mom places the necklace around the neck of the little girl and said trust the force, to me that was a signal to the audience and also the more hard core fans to just relax and enjoy. I'm sure folks will post spoilers in here but I want to highlight some great tips of the cap they had in the film.

1. The sets felt less blue screen and more real. I loved the way they intertwined the planet surfaces to space to cruiser ships, it was very seamless and never felt like a computer game. I was transported back to '77 I'm not gonna lie.

2. The CGI allowing actors like Peter Cushing to live on, unreal. Nothing about their mannerisms threw me out of the moment, in fact their ability to put these characters into the film with other real actors and new characters opens up limitless possibilities. I thought all of the cameos were great.

3. When the low point of the film or the only thing that really made me blink was the cameo by our 2 fav droids and so if that's the case you know the movie was off the rails good IMO.

4. Loved all the winks at the hard core fan base. Example was a fellow they bump into with the Walrus Man in step with him, just a lot of that everywhere. I also like the C2 droid that had wonderful jokes throughout the movie. He was peppering them in a lot early and then they did a good job of not over doing it,

5. I welled up some tears a few times. The guy who played IP Man was just awesome and really carried the film for some of the older viewing audience. The dude who was with him with the big gun, terrific character.

-one and done, no trilogy but I'm guessing their might be room to slip in a film between IV and V?

-I noticed not everyone seemed to like this as much. I think this blew Force Awakens away. I never thought anything else in this series could find its way into the top 3 but this comes close.

-Ben Mendelson was awesome and I didn't even mention Vader...might be time to give James Eral Jones voice a rest, but seriously run to see this if you are even on the fence. I was cruel to this film from concept to release, had low expectations and it just stunned me how much I liked this movie.

May the Force Be With All of You!

Only thing that made sense really, and I was wondering how they'd pull it off cleanly without it feeling contrived. But they earned it. Had to do it, as anyone who survived this mission (other than the fighter pilots who are in ANH) would have been a rebel hero and all over the original trilogy

You're such an idiot

I mean, I'm glad you liked the movie but to sit in here and troll for 3 days, then go see it and really enjoy it is amazing.

When you have been lied to for 1...2...3...4 movies in a row you lose faith in The Force.

Most fun at the movies since Mad Max a couple years back...and just for a minute I felt a little '77 in this one, whatever that means to you. Star Wars was the 1st movie I ever saw in a theater, I bet I'm not the only one in here.

Thats why I wanted to say I was wrong. Everyone who is a true fan and was bummed with Force Awakens will love this movie.

Glad it won you over MOP, even though a small part of me that I'm not proud of can't help but think you didn't deserve to enjoy it as much as you did with the relentless, fairly baseless hate you were throwing at it.  :lmao:

But that makes the quick turnaround the film made you do that much more impressive. I figured you were just trying to rile up us fanboys before but if you really made this 180, good for you. It was an excellent movie.

TFA was really good, even if you disliked it, it was 92% on rotten tomatoes. It wasn't a tragedy of a movie.

Second trilogy had nothing to do with these, completely different group of people making these new movies.

At some point during the final battle, maybe after blind guy died, maybe after his BFF died I don't remember exactly it suddenly clicked that all these people have to die. And now that I think about it, that's part of what made it so great with the emphasis on hope.  Sure all these people died, but the last line about hope was perfect.

I am so star wars drunk i can't walk straight.

I want to see it without the 3D. There is a certain brightness that is missing thru the 3D glass s but I figured they make these movies for this very reason. But honestly I don't think anything about 3D made it better.

At least one more time at the theater for sure. My TV at home won't do it justice.

Agreed. I'm also,Star Wars drunk tonight.

The heroics of the robot as they are trying to transmit and yeah this was just all kinds of awesome.

The blind guy saying he was one with The Force, I got more than chills, it had me wanting to get up out of my seat.

just got back

good flick, light years better than force awakens. the next two in that trilogy are to have to be awesome to make up for it.

blind guy and big gun were cool. K2 was a nice addition. Vader's final scenes were epic. when about 100 tie fighter join the fray was super cool.

Pure wrong
I'm on the other side of this one. Visually creative, stunning effects...not much else to chew on. It won't be nearly as bad, but over time it's going to age much more like Avatar has than any truly good/great film. It will be remembered for the visuals and that's about it.

1. Empire Strikes Back...always

2. A New Hope...I'm starting to see flaws. They could potentially reshoot the whole thing same movie with new actors like they did with Ben Hur. Laugh all you want but you know you would see this. I'm talking 50th Anniversary.

3a. Rogue One

3b. Jedi...really after Luke rescues Solo and blows up Jabaa the movie loses steam.

5. Sith

6. Menace

7. Force Awakens

8. Attack of the Snoozes

It was a blast in the theater. We saw it one of those Mega Screens, they have a name at the AMC but the screen is colossal. Not IMAX but bigger than a normal theater.

I thought they really nailed it in Mad Max and made it as sort of a throwback. It was a lot of fun.

WTMF with TFA ranked under Phantom Menace. I can't even fathom the rationale.
Force Awakens is a rip off of New Hope, not much original thought. At least Phantom Menace had a dude with a double light saber and some killer battles. We just see Solo killed off by his snot nose sniveling excuse of a son, throw up.
