*** Official Russia vs. Ukraine Discussion - Invasion has begun *** (4 Viewers)

Thread🧵

Given the ongoing discussions regarding the Ukrainian counter-offensive, it's crucial to understand russia's echeloned defense system along the frontline, particularly in the south. These defense lines are composed of multiple obstacles that Ukrainian forces will face
Basically they said "Well... it worked like a charm in WWII.... considering we have no clue what we are doing, let's do that."

glad they caught the intel leaker. 21 years old, how he has access to this is crazy.
Bizarre. Looks like he was posting it just to be big man on campus on a gaming Discord that had like 20 members.
How in the possible hell could he have had access to this information? If that dolt can do something like this we're doomed.
Sounds like he basically was admin for some secure cloud server.

This is a risk anywhere you store soft copies of damn near anything like we do today. There's always going to be someone with the keys that doesn't need the keys, otherwise when **** breaks nobody is around to fix it.

Tied to the conversation earlier about China. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/mar...p&cvid=6208af537ee94bafb5fe2b490db5aa51&ei=39

I don't think you can de-link the Ukraine War from our concern with China. What happens there has massive consequences for what is turning into a bi-polar world of America and China.

There are like a billion articles linked in here but one had a interesting angle that china with the one child thing has few fighting age males than you would think and can't really afford to pull them off the line. Plus few want to. It's not Nazi Germany.

That being said if it wasn't for deep red poverty states in the south here the US would be short men as well.

You mean all the states that people are leaving the deep blue states for?

Signed someone who has only lived in deep blue states and someone who pays very close attention to migration patterns and anecdotally sees it as part of my job.

The US forces are staffed in large numbers by people that grew up in the South. Not sure where you got the migration thing from. If the south didn't support the military it's not clear how we would be able to have an active force, and would instead be relying in large part on reservists.

Other countries are already seeing this burden hitting a tipping point. Even China.

It seemed like an unwarranted swipe at states which people are moving to in large numbers while they flee the blue states considering "poor" and "red" had no bearing on your point but showed bias.

Anyways...

About 50% of RA recruits come from the following eight states (2020):
     Texas (12%)
     California (10.4%)
     Florida (8.4%)
     Georgia (5%)
     North Carolina (4.6%)
     New York (4.4%)
     Illinois (3.2%)
     Virginia (3.2%)
About 50% of RA recruits come from the following eight states (2021):
     Texas (12.1%)
     California (9.9%)
     Florida (8.5%)
     Georgia (4.9%)
     North Carolina (4.7%)
     New York (4.6%)
     Ohio (3.4%)
     Virginia (3.1%)

Top 8 states by population
California
Texas
Florida
New York
Pennsylvania
Illinois
Ohio
Georgia
(North Carolina = 9th and Virginia 12th)

There is a slight outsize of population representation by Texas and a little more for NC. These are from regular Army recruitment numbers. Looking at this, even though there is a bit of an increase from Southern states, it is fairly in line with population by states.

freaking Pennsylvania... figures.

Yea, China and India happily will take cheap oil from them.
Wouldn't you?
If I had the same level of value on human life and indifference to naked aggression to take advantage for my own gains... sure.

If I had the same level of value on human life and indifference to naked aggression to take advantage for my own gains... sure.
I was really more talking about India. Why would it be in their interest to shun cheap energy?
Yep. India has to import most of their energy at the moment in both coal and oil. They are making huge strides in renewables but given their size and needs, it’ll take quite a while to wean themselves off of fossils.

Still hesitant to check in here because it's so sad. Makes me feel small, insignificant, and weak. I pray for the soldiers who do not want to be caught in the crossfire and for the Ukrainian people displaced and affected by the war, some of whom have been killed, almost all of whom have had their lives completely disrupted.

There is evil on this earth incarnate. I hope that it passes in the next life.

The reasons Europe has significantly reduced it's purchasing of Russian energy exports. Russian energy exports IS the Russian economy. The over reliance on Russia has put Europe in a bind but they have taken pain to try to pressure Russia and then India and China, whom have less respect for human life, see it as an opportunity to buy cheaper.

India is playing a game that it is going to lose and seemingly is too dumb or too arrogant to realize it. They are trying to be independent and become the other polar power in Asia opposite of China. They won't make it and if they don't align with the US more fully they will fall to far behind for it to matter.

The source for this info below is Russia, so who knows if accurate:

These the same sources that were claiming they'd already destroyed 150 HIMAARS launchers and had blown up a dozen Leopards months before they were even on Ukranain soil? :ROFLMAO:

80% of Russian Propaganda is outright fabrication and 20% is comically bad exaggeration.
There was one Leopard that was reportedly damaged during unloading (Barrel hit ground and popped the turret off with leverage). Unsure on how true but Russia was claiming they blew it up (Despite there being zero burn/explosion marks)

The source for this info below is Russia, so who knows if accurate:

Russia also reports that their equipment is as good or better than all NATO. I believe ZERO of anything that Russia says. They have no credibility at all.

That said.... if ANYONE knows about poorly storing old tanks and then trying to use them in battle.... it is the Russians.

Contrary to the many ‘Russian are stupid’ stereotypes that have developed throughout the war, they have demonstrated an ability in some areas to learn and adapt. This isn’t a statement of admiration. 1/25 🧵
Russian people are not stupid but they have never shown a propensity for strategic or tactical thinking in military matters. Their officers basically know two ways of attacking.... large artillery bombardments and human wave tactics. Outside of those two they struggle. That goes back to before modern times.

Their officer corps from their general staff on down to their junior officers are lacking and they basically have no non-commissioned officers to speak of.

That is one thing about the 'cost' of assistance. Not an insignificant amount of it are things at the end or nearing the end of their service life. For example, M113's have long been pushed out of front line service by the Bradley IFV which in tern is on it's way out with the OMFV program. We actually wanted to have replaced both by 2018 but that didn't happen. I am sure it makes sense accounting wise to talley that kind of stuff up but is it a true cost?
