Aldon Smith arrested for DUI, hit and run and vandalism

Seriously... wtf?

Million dollar athlete, 10 cent head.
Cut bait with this knucklehead already. Hes nothing without Justin anyway.
After he restructured his contract, what kind of penalty would hit the cap if they just outright cut him? Says his contract was restructured to a series of bonuses.
Well, you all got your wish. Niners planning to cut bait. It's all over Twitter.

Eli Harold to the rescue ( I like the guy).

Man, I just read a blurp on what all the Niners have lost in th eoff-season and WOW....just WOW! THis team..woo boy.

Such a great player too, I hope he gets his stuff straight, but if not, hope he didn't blow all his money.

I've never seen a team lose as much in one offseason as the 49ers have lost this year.

Vegas over/under on wins is 6.5 ... I would put $1k on the under, especially in that division.

Yeah, 7 wins out of that roster seems like irrational optimism.

W's: Rams, Cardinals, Bears, Browns, Falcons, Giants, Vikings, Lions

Ls: Rams, Cardinals, Seahawks, Seahawks, Packers, Steelers, Ravens, Bengals

8 - 8 doesn't seem like irrational optimism.

Well, to me, your "W's" row on its own seems irrationally optimistic. But that's why they give everybody anuses and opinions, I guess.

Guess we'll see. Although that is putting a lot of faith in Kaep to have a better year this year, I suppose most around here would consider that irrationally optimistic.

Certainly there is a scenario where Kaep doesn't improve and Tomsula quickly finds himself overmatched, and the team is a disaster. QB and HC are the two most important roles in the organization so I get that. But otherwise this was one of the deepest teams in the league the last few years and I think people are under rating the quality of that depth. For example, between Brooks and Lynch, they still have a couple of high quality pass rushers even in Smith's absence. Bowman's coming back. There are a couple first round draft picks filling in on the line to replace McDonald and Justin Smith. I don't think mediocrity is out of the question at all

8 to 10 wins. This team isn't a contender, but they won't be horrible as most people think. Mark it down.

Took a look at their schedule...Wow! Would like to hear which games you think will be a W. That is a tough schedule!

Would you like to put some money on it? I'll put $1k they finish under 8 wins.
Lol, I love the schtick where someone throws a bet proposal on the table because they disagree with a prediction. Sorry man, I dont gamble. But thanks for the offer I guess?

Even if he thought 8 was a lock, why would he ever take a random message board bet instead of betting the over at 6.5 in Vegas? Such a weird shtick. The "if you're so confident you should take a bet with ridiculously worse odds then you could get anywhere else just to prove how confident you are to a bunch of message boarders."

No one is ever taking that bet. I put which 8 games I think they'll win earlier, but I think they likely finish in the 6-10 win range. I would be surprised if they won less then 6 and thrilled if they win more then 10 (but still surprised).

I'll put my $100 against your 1k that they win 8 or more.

See I can make ridiculous internet bets too.

Dare I ask again about where the 8 wins are coming from? The Aldon Smith debacle might have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

Yeah, tough to see 8 wins here. I can't see how they win any of their divisional games. Sea, Arz and St. L are all very good teams.

Aldon Smith without Justin Smith was a completely different player. Dont get me wrong, I'much rather have him then not have him, but I think Lynch and a slimmer healthy Brooks can be a very good pass rushing duo. Bowman's recovery is still a question mark but if he has recovered he's arguably one of the best ILB in the league. And from all accounts he's looking just as good and fast as ever.

A healthy Vernon and new Torrey Smith to stretch the field. Boldin is still around. As long as Kaep has improved and does not regress (which TC reports are all positive), he should have more weapons this year then last. The biggest question is really the Oline. Davis retiring after we chose him over Iupati was a real blow.

This team still has a ton of talent throughout the roster.

Just not looking forward to this year.

- Lost a coach near his peak who happens to be one of the best in the business.

- Lost an awesome RB, although hopefully a young Carlos will fill those shoes.

- Lost Anthony Davis and Mike Iupati

- Lost Willis, Borland, Aldon and Justin Smith

I'm glad some can remain somewhat optimistic, I'm just not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, especially with ownership and the front office :kicksrock:

Hyde and Davis are the only players I'm considering on this offense at their current ADP.

Huge difference in thinking there's decent talent on the roster, and being excited for the season. I haven't been this apathetic about football in a long time.

They have arguably lost their best two plays on both lines and a possible HOF LB. That type of talent isn't easy to replace. but your right Kaep is the key to any shot they have. I must be reading different articles. The initial reviews on his performance haven't been encouraging. We will see.

So does anyone else see a solid year for Vernon Davis this year to bring his career back on track? I'm not talking Bennett/Olsen number but probably around TE 10-14 numbers. I don't pay a huge amount of attention to the 49ers but lots of my friends do and they are jazzed by how the coordinator and coach are changing things...but I can't pry the details of what things from them, well besides the defense losing talent.

We don't have any firm details on what the new coordinator wants to do, other than play at a faster tempo.

I was at my draft last weekend and saw ESPN had VD ranked as like the 28th TE. I won't claim he's a lock for a huge year or anything but I think he's a pretty good upside buy if you are getting him for $1 at the end of the draft.

Good to see Bowman back and looking sharp. Hyde looked good with cuts and vision too.

We'll see how things play out on the field, but I am warming up to Tomsula as head coach. His first few pressers were painfully awkward, but he seems to be getting more comfortable and I'm liking his tell-it-like-it is. Way more approachable than Harbaugh.

I still worry about Kaep. He has done nothing in the preseason to boost confidence in him. Considering he is mostly playing against vanilla defenses...

That backshoulder throw to Smith should have been a TD catch and people have a different feeling about Kaep's 2nd game.

I have no faith in any 49r at the prices I've seen in PPR except maybe Bolin as a 3rd WR, who I've seen fall to later rounds in drafts.

PFT reported starting OLB Ahmad Brooks has been indicted for sexual battery, stemming from an incident also involving ex49er Ray McDonald (for which the latter was just indicted on rape charges).

Any other team, this would be a big deal. But we're so used to this kind of info on the niners, we get crickets.

I'm watching the preseason Denver game on NFL Network right now...

My opinions from the offseason are unfortunately unchanged. Could be the worst offense in the league this year. Kaep is awful, line looks miserable, receivers :X . Hyde is the only bright spot. Bush looks okay, but my expectations from him are not very high.

Defense looks okay. Bowman looks like a beast, if him and Willis were in the middle I'd feel a little better, but still see them as middle of the pack at best. This season will suck :kicksrock:

Niners are starting two awful journeymen at RG and RT in Devey and Pears. I don't understand how Boone isn't starting at RT and some of those highly touted young guys aren't playing at G.

Prediction: 6 wins on the strength of a surprisingly good but not elite defense, and we're back here in 3 months debating whether the under qualified OC, terrible OL, or lack of progress from Kaepernick are at fault for another terrible season from the offense. The play calling and OL issues will make it hard to tell if the team needs to definitively move on from Kaep.

6 wins is generous. I think they are fighting for the number 1 pick by week 10 and the media is calling for kaep to be benched
