*** Official SF 49ers 2015 thread *** Chip Kelly new HC (1 Viewer)

Full schedule here: http://www.nfl.com/schedules/2015/REG/49ERS

Hmm:

Wins:

Vikings, @Giants, Falcons, Ravens, Rams, Cardinals, @Browns, @Lions, @Bears

Losses:

Seahawks, @Seahawks, @Cardinals, @Rams, Bengals, @Steelers, Packers

9 - 7 and miss playoffs.
Not so sure they will beat the Ravens or @Lions...could be a 7-9 season. Then again, they could go 10-6 since everyone is counting them out and we have no idea how the players will play for Tomsula.

I always wonder if "raw talent" guys are a good idea in the first round...you pretty much need cant-miss players this high...but what do I know? lol

Meh! They could have done worse, I guess. Would have liked them to grab Perriman but I understand they need more help at DE.

Hope I'm wrong but this could be a long year and even more frustrating is that all the progress that has been shown the past several seasons may be rolled back.

On the surface it sure looks like they took a big step backwards this off season....only time will tell.

I always like adding depth and talent to the defensive line, but between J. Smith (maybe), Dockett, Carradine, Dial, Dorsey, and Williams all playing 3 spots, it hardly seemed like their biggest need.

Not overly excited by the pick. Agree with Wingnut that a raw talent isn't the best direction at this point. Was hoping they would take Peters, who went next.

On the plus side, an extra 4th this year and a 5th next year wasn't a bad haul to move down two spots and still get the guy you wanted. Gives them some ammo to move up in the 2nd if they want. Gregory still out there.

Ditto on Peters...

Another safety, sweet

Maybe we're starting some new sort of defense that rolls 5 safeties out.
Yeah, don't get this pick either. 2nd straight pick that the guy I thought they should pick went the next pick after. Thought Rowe would have been a better pick since he can play CB.

Too bad Little Jeb made that "win with class" speech, otherwise they could have snagged Gregory there. Worth the risk I think to grab a potential great pass rusher in the 2nd round.

Also, what's going on with Jalen Strong? Thought he would be long gone by now.

This draft.. I know they day to wait a few years to grade it. But wtf. I know ward sucked last year. But sheesh.

That was my first reaction, but I think Ward is being groomed as a CB and Reid is a couple of concussions away from retirement. Bethea is on the wrong side of 30. I get the BPA strategy.

Round 5 Pick 165

Bradley Pinion, P, Clemson

Baalke - "Screw it. We're gonna be punting a LOT!"

What is wrong with this team's management?

Before the 49ers took some of these guys, why not throw a flyer on La'El Collins? I mean if he's cleared it's a home run, if not you let him go. I know the PR angle, etc. but look at who they took and compare the upside. I'm not sure of Collins at T but at G he could be quite good.

Because there is a very high probability that he is guilty.

If you were making a list of the 3-4 worst teams in the NFL to take a flier on that guy, the 49ers would be on that short list.

Well, they didn't draft a single player at a position I'd consider a "need." The closest would be the WR they got but he's coming off an ACL tear and won't play.

A punter in the 5th round when they already have maybe the league's best? Baffling.

And if he is, you release him. Late round picks often don't even make the team. I get the PR side of it but it's high reward with little cost. Maybe NFL security's investigation had warned teams of something they had found in their investigation. If that was the case then I get it.

Completely unexcited about this draft. Now I'm wondering if ownership's plans for Tomsula are temporary-one-and-done because they couldn't get the coach they wanted.

I dismissed the thought when it came up at the end of last season, but now...

Yeah, even BEFORE the draft I thought SF had a good chance to win the 2015 honor of "biggest decline by an NFL team from one season to the next". The draft didn't turn that around.

No corners. A S in 2. A punter. Project picks at top of draft.

Maybe Harold will develop better than Lemonier and salvage this mess.

Typical Balke crap. I hate that guy.

This draft made it crystal clear...if any additional clarity was necessary... how important Harbaugh's influence on personnel was. Crazy that ownership threw it all away.

Outside of Kaepernick, I'd be interested in hearing about Harbaugh's input on draft picks between 2011-14. The only decent picks in that stretch (other than Kaep) were on defense, which is more Baalke's realm of expertise than Harbaughs.

I'll always root for the 49ers, but I'm afraid my fandom is going to be rather passive for a while. I just can't support this management ineptitude.

Hey, at least we got another TE at the end though. I do like Armstead though. We shall see. 6 - 10 for the next few years.

That would have made too much sense. Cowboys sign him to a 3 year deal.

I mean, I like the date of my last page prior to today, only to see me on the same freaking page at the top of this page.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Not a lot to be excited about right now as a 9ers fan. Tomsula might be the absolute worst public speaker possible. It's almost embarrassing every time he does an interview.

I liked the Armstead pick, but not thrilled about the Tartt pick. Just don't see the need for another Safety who is a "big hitter with questionable coverage skills".

I'm also tired of the injured red shirt picks, have any of them panned out? The 49ers seem to think they have the best doctors for ACL fixes and yet nothing to show for it.

I'm not nearly as upset about the punter pick as some seem to be, it's a 5th round, whatever. Andy Lee was our greatest weapon for years, so who knows.

The OL they got in 6th or 7th is massive. Like 6'8 350. Who knows what happens there, it's all a crap shoot after the 5th anyhow.

Really hoping that Justin Smith comes back for one more year. He can't play every down anymore, but his leadership and work ethic would be nice to have for the minicamps and OTAs. Reports out of camp are that Kaepernick and Reggie Bush are clicking on passes coming out of the backfield. It'd be nice to see that again, as Gore was criminally underused in the passing game the last few seasons.

But overall, just not a lot to get excited about with a seemingly 8-8 season looming and a coach that can't seem to form a sentence. At least the post game interviews should be entertaining.

I loved Tomsula's answers about Kaepernick - especially about whether he will be 'unleashed' this year - "I want people to have fun playing football".

Tip of the hat to Justin Smith on his retirement. Guy was the kind of player every team's fan base should hope to have on their team.

Yep. Gonna miss him and Willis this year.

Kruger on KNBR was taking about where Smith rated all time on the SF d-line. He had him in the 8-10 range, but think he is higher. Bryant Young, Haley and Dean were really the only ones I could rate higher. I think Smith was better than Stubblefield and Board. Tommy Hart and Cedrick Hardman were excellent pass rushers, but hard to compare the 4-3 DEs with the 3-4 DEs. Nomellini is a HOFer, but never saw him play. Charlie Kruger in the mix too. Thought it was an interesting discussion, which is rare for KNBR.

Justin Smith, big fan... Guy was a monster.

Team is in complete rebuild mode right now IMO
I'm more optimistic than most. I think the defense will still be solid despite the losses. I really like Dante Johnson and Lynch to have impact seasons. Brock coming back and hopefully Ward is healthy. Ward caught a lot of crap last year, but he didn't play that bad or Fangio wouldn't have kept rolling him out there. Offensively, so much depends on how Kaep plays. Although Smith is far from an elite receiver, he does give them a deep speed guy which should open the rest of the field up. Glad they are giving Patton and Ellington shots to actually get on the field this year. Like the Hyde, Bush, Davis backfield. O-line is a bit of a mystery, but if guys like Martin and Thomas justify their draft positions, it could be a strength of the team. Kilgore played well until he got hurt so not worried about center. Boone getting his head on straight would be a big help, but not sure if that will happen. Davis seems to be motivated after last years disaster.

Wish they could have brought Culliver back but the deal he got from Washington was tough to match.

Anyway, will be an interesting season for sure.
