Jed's still very youngHELLO EXACTLY!!!Let's be more precise here. It's terrible because of what happened with the coaching staff and the fact that they appear to have a young, idiot owner who is in way over his head. The roster moves have not been terrible to date. I can quibble but I think they have largely done the right thing. Losing what looked like a future HoFer to retirement unexpectedly would be a tough pill to swallow for any franchise in the league but you can't really hammer the team about that.
Bad transactions, unexpected injuries or retirements, etc. can be handled properly...
An owner like Jed is poison... Recovering from someone like this takes a long time. Either until he figures it out (which feels like a long time away) or he leaves.
Rough couple of years there, not sure how you 49ers fans survived. God bless your current recovery. There's still a lot of talent on the field, but with such piss poor management, I wouldn't be surprised to see the downward spiral continue. I'm still recovering from the early 2000's. Remember when Mike Rumph busted as expected and Merton Hanks won our hearts with that awesome head bobbing? We're heading into another era like that.

Just watched it...thought you were probably exaggeratiing...Just saw Tomsula's spiel at the Willis press conference.....

There isn't a more LOL-worthy coach in the league. Hope he sticks around for at least two seasons.![]()
Say what you want about Singletary's coaching, but his 2010 draft (Bowman, Iupati, Anthony Davis) set the team up for the winning that followed.A leader of men. Makes one reminisce on the merits of the last leader of men in this position. Legendary 9rs HC Mike Singletary who ascribed to the view that yelling obscenities at grown men was both coaching AND leadership. It figures to be a very long season.
It's not the same thing as having a hardcopy - but it is freely available on PDF. http://www.scribd.com/doc/125465715/Finding-the-Winning-Edge-by-Bill-Walsh#scribdWalsh's A Football Life on NFLN was awesome.
Shot in the dark here - anyone have Walsh's book Finding the Winning Edge? Its pretty rare, and it can't be found online for any less than $250.![]()
Agree...I'd much prefer Reggie Bush to Harvin. Harvin is just a bad dude.
ThisI've never understood the love for Harvin. He's never had a 1000 yard season or caught more than 6 TD's in a year. And he appears to leave a wake with every team he's been part of.
No thanks.
What exactly did the team lose that you are concerned about? As a 49ers fan this may be one of the saddest off-seasons I have ever seen. I can't see how this team isn't an absolute debacle next season.

They will be better on offense than they were last year. Defense is a concern - especially the secondary, but Baalke doesn't seem concerned about Culliver and Cox's replacements.
Harbough, willis, gore, smith, no wrs, Kaep still stinks, an oline that is meh, not much at cb, dline is weak...leadership, coachingHarbaugh. What exactly did the team lose that you are concerned about? As a 49ers fan this may be one of the saddest off-seasons I have ever seen. I've posted before I don't have a complaint about the roster moves. Culliver just got hugely overpaid and Cox may be in line to get something similar. They have Brock and a ton of youngsters at CB. Baalke seems to be able to find decent guys at that spot late in the draft for cheap.
Who knows if Bowman will be the same. Thanks for your concern. Should probably go celebrate your excitement in your own homer thread. Never understood why fans of other teams feel the need to chime in negatively on a team they don't root for. Must be some kind of personal insecurity issue.I feel for 49ers fans, but as a Bears fan, I have to say I'm happy we now have one of the best defensive staffs in the league. Never imagined that after the past two putrid seasons.

You and the other drama queen Niner fans in here should take some time off. Dude are you stuck in some sort of time warp?Dianna Marie Russini
@NBCdianna
Not so fast on Percy Harvin to the Bills, 49ers could be making a play per sources.

Coaching, front office for sure. The big gap for me is the leadership...especially on defense. I think that unit takes a fairly big hit next year.So far weve lost Gore, Stevie Johnson, Iupati, Skuta, Culliver, Cox, Willis, Justin Smith, and will lose Crabtree
So far weve added Torrey Smith, Reggie Bush, Jerome Simpson, Darnell Dockett, Shareece Wright
I'm not suicidal about the roster moves...its coaching and front office that scares me. We know nothing about Tomsulas HC ability, but we do know how the FO likes to pull the strings and interfere.
The offense could actually take a step forward next season. Its all gonna hinge on coaching and if the players buy into whatever it is Tomsula will be selling, and if Jed and Trent let the coaches coach and stay out of it.
I get 49ers fans concerns about Tomsula - he's a true wild card - but he's clearly a player's coach and stands a good chance of getting the most out of his team.So far weve lost Gore, Stevie Johnson, Iupati, Skuta, Culliver, Cox, Willis, Justin Smith, and will lose Crabtree

Bowman and Bethea on defense. If healthy and not suspended, and assuming Mangini doesn't screw things up (major assumptions), I think they are at least as good as last year on that side of the ball.Coaching, front office for sure. Plus I'm not a Kaep fan so I don't think he does anything this year regardless of who is around him
I'll be curious to see how Fangio does elsewhere. The roster was so good in SF he just played very vanilla and let his guys make plays. I'm not sure how he will fare without that talent level. When he played good offenses short handed last year (Denver, SD) he looked overmatched.flapgreen said:I feel for 49ers fans, but as a Bears fan, I have to say I'm happy we now have one of the best defensive staffs in the league. I agree with this. To many times last year when i would scream at them to do something creative on D and nothing...I'll be curious to see how Fangio does elsewhere. You see talent in the defensive backfield? Where? Throughout his 9rs contract Fangio has been stuck with a revolving door of marginal DBs and he masked their lack of talent with scheme. Opposing GMs scoop them up each year in free agency only to see them show their absence of skills on their new teams and Baalke restocks with more mediocre guys for Fangio to weave into the next season's fog. Patrick Willis credited Fangio with understanding offensive tendencies and predicting offensive play calling better than anyone he had ever been around (see, e.g., Mike Singletary). Fangio is a talented DC. He will be missed.I'll be curious to see how Fangio does elsewhere. The roster was so good in SF he just played very vanilla and let his guys make plays. Agree. The Niners secondary for the last several years has always been made better by the front 7. Acker flashed last pre-seaon and I thought Johnson played well at times. Brock and Ward are healthy and they still have the draft. Front 7 with Lynch, A Smith, Bowman, Borland, Dorsey and bunch of good role players on the d-line will still pretty solid. Oh and they have 2 pretty good safeties as well.Maybe.You see talent in the defensive backfield? Where? It's disappointing seeing any successful team fall apart this fast, especially hearing how the owner has been such a egotistical jerk throughout the whole thing. I would much prefer Harbaugh and the 49ers do well instead of the Seahawks. Now Justin Smith too?Who knows if Bowman will be the same. thought you were trolling. Niner fans have enough Debbie Downers as it is.
Nothing save for Willis retiring has been that unexpected. The coaching staff has yet to prove themselves but the roster is still fairly loaded. The def is going to pretty much be the same def as last year which was one of the better squads in the league and the offense has nowhere to go but up. Sky is not falling but people tend to enjoy doing the drama queen dance.
