What does Jozy provide in a game like this? We aren't exactly using him as a target forward and he has minimal work rate.
Huh? He's had 0 service, but his hold up play has been excellent thus far.
But that is the point. Do you see any type of service coming to him this game? I don't. Might as well throw someone up there who is going to chase down the balls when DMB decides to just kick it.
Like who, though? Only other true strikers on the bench are EJ and Boyd. Maybe EJ later on for some fresh legs, or move Gomez up top or something. I don't think you do that until you're resigned to playing for the draw, though.

He's manhandling the Mexican center backs in every confrontation. Also, he's by far our best striker.

I will take it.

When you consider the opponent, the venue and the ridiculous amount of players the US is missing, being level at half time is solid.

Agree. He's going to be involved if we score in the run of play.

Zusi is playing much better today than against CR. Bradley too as you can see his confidence on the ball, playing clean passes both back and forward. They seem to have ce rotated the defensive midfield to help DMB and he's been less exposed in the last 15 minutes.

All and all a pretty good half for the USMNT.

He got better as the half wore on. I just would have brought him in as a 2nd half sub. I also wouldn't say he is manhandling them at every confrontation. If the ball isn't to feet, he barely makes an effort and saying he is our best striker isn't saying much.

Fixed.

One thing that concerns me is how they are controlling the ball when they get possession - too many miscommunications on passes - dropping back when there is room to move forward, and trying to move forward when tightly checked. A few giveaways so far - can't have those in the 2nd half.

Only really shaky for about 15 minutes in the middle there.

No, this is backwards. Jozy deserves to start because of his talent and superb club form. A guy like Boyd would make a fine 2nd half sub to apply pressure to a Mexican backline tired from battling a beast like Jozy for 70 minutes.

I would agree with that thinking.

So, uh, who's coming on for Beasley?
What happen to DMB?Morrow is the only other natural lb on the team. Cameron can play there as well but then you have to bring in another neophyte in Beltran at RB. No good options here with so many defenders hurt.
Mexico is isolating him at every opportunity, attacking, and flopping shamelessly. Look at how wide Aquino is playing in the attack. Giovanni is starting to drift to the right too... it's only a matter of time before DMB picks up a 2nd yellow for a mistimed challenge.

Wonderful two way action in the CR Jam game.

This Joel Campbell kid is scary. No dribble is less than a 30 yard sprint. Not the finished product yet but he oozes something special in a couple of years maybe.

Still would like to see Sacha.
No Sacha, no Beckerman. Please.
Definitely going to get 1 of them. I assume they'll wait til 60 and pull off either Zusi or Gomez and put one of them on.
Much rather have Sasha, Beckerman would get eaten alive by the Mexican speed.
Probably more likely to see Beckerman in a defensive role. They'll probably wait as long as possible on subs with the 2 YC's and see if Mexico scores. It'll be interesting if Mexico scores, if the US attacks or just tries to keep the GD down.

I never thought I'd say this, but I wouldn't mind seeing Edu swapped for Beckerman at some point.

I doubt Edu gets pulled. They'll either move him back to CB if they take Besler out or move Bradley up and run with Edu/Beckerman.

You're right, Edu's versatility is too important.Wow... Jozy off.

Well I don't get that. Now is when you need more hold up play and fresh legs aren't going to be that effective in the 55th minute. I figured it'd be for Gomez and eventually they'd push him up for Jozy later.

Hopefully we don't need that sub later.

Jozy off. Unreal. JK hates him
He needs waaaaaaaaaay better movement off the ball. Has to learn to not just sit there and wait for service.
He was doing a decent job of making himself an outlet option, but I guess Klinsmann wants somebody to stretch Mexico vertically?Meanwhile, DMB is noticeably limping. I don't know if Jurgen has a plan D for left back.
Honestly, I don't know what options he has.
